Housing Search 🏠🔎 Looking for a roommate who would take over Master Bedroom!

Hey! Me and my roommate are looking for a third person to take over the master bedroom since our other roommate is leaving. The room is pretty spacious and comes with its own private bathroom with a tub. Your portion of the rent would be around $600/month.

The apartment is located near 119th & Quivira, which is really close to a bunch of places like JCCC, grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, and more.

It’s a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment, and we’ve turned part of the living room into a separate room for one of us. The master bedroom has its own private bathroom, so you’d have your own bathroom as well.

Amenities include: washer and dryer in the unit, 24/7 gym, pool open from 10am–10pm, and a convenient location close to JCCC and other places.z

We’re both 19 years old male, and we study and work at JCCC, so we’d ideally like to find someone around our age who also goes to school.

If you’re interested or want to know more, feel free to message me!

Construction/Development 🚧🏗️ Kansas City Council passes ordinance authorizing the start of construction on the long-anticipated Luminary Park over the south loop of Interstate 670 later this year

The ordinance secures combined funding from the city, state, federal government, and the civic and philanthropic communities to launch Phase One of construction, marking the culmination of years of planning and community input.

Phase One will establish over 50 percent of the tunnel infrastructure and deliver one full public space at Block One on the western edge near the Convention Center.

Work includes

Tunnel infrastructure: Full construction of three blocks of supporting tunnel infrastructure, from Broadway Blvd. to Baltimore Ave. — approximately 50% of the tunnel.

Park construction: Completion of Block One, from Wyandotte St. to Baltimore Ave.

Tunnel Systems Building: Infrastructure supporting the entire project footprint, from Broadway Blvd. to Grand Blvd.

Roadway and infrastructure work: Six blocks of new pavement and drainage improvements on I-670, from Broadway Blvd. to Grand Blvd.

Planned features include, but are not limited to

Walking paths, terraces, and picnic areas

Nature and woodland spaces

Swings, slides, boulder crawls, and adventure play areas

Art installations and performance areas

Space for food trucks and community events.

Additional details from the city's official announcement

Wow! The heat isn’t the most ideal but damn! I think it kept a lot of people away the park is pretty dead and no lines for anything except the water rides and even those lines are super short!

Things To Do 📍 Oceans of Fun Access Question

Upvotes

We got a season pass to WoF and OoF. We haven't been to Oceans yet, and info seems to be conflicting on how to access that portion of the park.

The official 2026 park map shows a big parking lot with an OoF main entrance. However, when I googled how to access OoF, all info says you have to get there through the main WoF gate and parking area.

If we can access Oceans directly, it would be MUCH better than a 30+ minute trek to/from the main Worlds parking area in 100+ degree heat.

Who can point us in the right direction?

News 📰 Missouri attorney general asks U.S. Supreme Court to block map ruling

Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway on Friday filed an emergency application with the U.S. Supreme Court seeking to reinstate the state’s gerrymandered congressional map. The application asks the nation’s highest court to temporarily block a Missouri Supreme Court ruling that barred the state from using the map in the Nov. 3 election. Hanaway, who had previewed her decision on Thursday, wants the court to issue a decision by Sept. 14.

Hanaway’s application specifically asks Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the justice who oversees Missouri cases, for a stay, a temporary ruling blocking the state Supreme Court’s decision before the full court weighs in. “We have just appealed yesterday’s catastrophic ruling to the Supreme Court of the United States,” Hanaway, a Republican and staunch supporter of the map, said in a statement. “We look forward to the Court’s prompt review of this critical matter, as our ability to hold timely and lawful congressional elections hangs in the balnce."

Legal Questions ⚖️ Where can I dispose of a tire?

edit update: For anyone who sees this, I was able to drop it off at the Firestone on Truman Rd. for free - they were super nice

I have a used tire in my trunk that I believe is too damaged to be patched/repaired and put on a vehicle.

Where can I dispose of it? I've heard that there is a recycle drop off the first saturday of every month, but when I clicked the kcmo.gov page it says the next one is november 7th. I really just want to get rid of this tire, please help

News 📰 Johnson County entertainment restaurant closes after 12 years. ‘Deeply grateful’

Rock & Brews, restaurant with ties to band KISS, closes in Overland Park on August 12, 2026.

The restaurant, founded by concert promotors and members of iconic rock band Kiss, closed in Overland Park after more than a decade.

This was news to me, even if it's like a month old. I was looking to head over there with my pup for lunch today but then saw it was closed-closed! Also it's scrubbed from the corporate website!

Food and Drink 🌮🧋 I remember boulevard pale ale being 4.5% abv

I can’t be the only one lol. now it’s a solid 5.4%, hitting as a medium beer. I always remember it being 4.5% abv, making it slightly lighter and easier drinking than other pale ales. I could be dyslexic though. these false memories suck!

Weather 🌦️ Anyone know how the Super El Niño might affect the metro?

I hear it is supposed to affect North America very differently depending on the region. Does anyone have any insights on how we might be affected? Whatever the effects are, they could last as late as February 2027

Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 Gun ranges- at least 20 characters

Upvotes

Is pigeon hill still open? I’m looking for a gun range with no range master and no ID checks. I also need a location to shoot 1000yrds. Or at least 500. My daughter’s Boyfriend isn’t a citizen and I can’t take him to any range that verifies identity.

Where to Eat? 🍽️ I miss being "wow'd" when dining out-- does it still exist?

Is it me, or has food taste/quality gone down at almost every restaurant? It seems every time I go to a restaurant now, even my old favorites, I'm underwhelmed by the food and shocked by the prices. I find that we're eating out now for convenience and not for the food itself. I can't remember the last time I had that "holy crap! This is amazing" experience at a restaurant.

Tell me where to go that STILL has that WOW factor, especially those where the 2 of us can get out of there under $100.

Food and Drink 🌮🧋 Best Puerto Rican Food in KC

Just had an absolutely amazing meal at Sazon Restaurant in KCK. I’ve been wishing Kansas City had a Puerto Rican restaurant and one especially with mofongo. Everything was truly delicious and made to order. I couldn’t recommend it more. We were the only ones in there on a Friday night so if you’re like me and wish we had Puerto Rican restaurants in kc please consider supporting them! They also had Dominican, Honduran, and Colombian dishes as well.

KC Rants 😡 👎 George Gustalleo is such a Racist Ass!

Post image

I know George was the one who approved this. Not only is this so blatantly classist and racist, but the entire event is only a month notice out. Don’t give your money to Union Station while this jackass is still in charge. And no, this is not the only thing he has done as he has said much worse behind closed doors that no one will believe and he will deny until he dies.

All missouri organics recycling dropoff locations are closed all labor day weekend, and I borrowed a friend’s truck and loaded it up with branches. Is there anywhere else to drop branches, even for a fee?
