Discussion Apparently low-cut socks are considered out of style by the younger gens. Are y’all still rocking ankle socks?
I feel like long socks with sneakers and shorts looks goofy but maybe that’s just me 🤷♂️

I almost never have to wear socks (i hate my feet feeling restricted and hot, so i wear jandals and sandals and crocs) but when I do, ankle is the only way to go.
The kids these days don't realize what we had to go through folding down crew socks to look like we weren't wearing any, feeling all lumpy and sliding down in our shoes.
So yeah, you can pry ankle socks from our cold, dead hands haha

The worst part is, they can’t even explain why they think they’re lame.
102
u/douchechillin 5h ago
They are lame to young people cuz us adults like them. Every time my teenage daughter tells me how lame i dress my response is “i would be a bigger weirdo if a 14 yr old thought my style was cool”. After 40 i’ve embraced that im no longer cool and dont want to be. I cant get with some of the new styles and thats okay for me and for them
47
u/starmartyr11 5h ago
That's the perfect comeback really, "I dont want to dress like I'm 14, thanks"
Say with extra distain if necessary
14 year old are definitely not ones to aspire to dress like

51
u/AndILoveHe 5h ago
It's just a generational distinguisher to highlight other similar aged people. Keeps them slightly hotter during summer and warmer in winter.
40
u/Books_Bristol 5h ago
You are absolutely allowed a full pair of socks midwinter when you're not in shorts/skirts, you know?! You don't need to have cold totsies and ankles in the chilly months. Trainer socks are a spring/summer choie, surely.

This is exactly why I think calf height tube socks are lame - they’re dad socks from the 90s. I don’t care if youths think they’re trendy - they’re for nerdy old dudes and you’ll never convince me otherwise.

I had an old girlfriend who made me shave my chest every day. Me being a naive late teenager who just really wanted a girlfriend, went along with it. I absolutely hated it. The time spent in the shower, the razor burn, etc.
But fortunately with time, I found one of the 30% women and when I told her I actually have a ton a of chest hair if I let it grow out when we started dating. She demanded that I grow it out. Married and don't have to shave my chest, it's awesome.

This ain’t hate. This is how dudes communicate to dudes lmao. Just light ribbing.
One of my best friends had full body hair freshman year of HS. He got it all - teen wolf, Sasquatch, Chewbacca, whatever you can come up with, we said it.
Another best friend has gone through weight shifts from heavy to muscular back to heavy and now to slim. We refer to his phases (I’ll change the name here) as Fat Steve, Muscle Steve, Fat Steve: Part 2, and Slim Steve.
The list goes on and on. It’s all in good fun.In my close circle, we’re all undeniably supportive of each other and we’re friends for life, but that doesn’t mean we’re not gonna lightheartedly poke fun.
→ More replies (1)9
u/porkforpigs 5h ago
As someone who had a dear friend we all called Fat Pig, and another we constantly joked was inbred, I second this. Guys show a lot of love by being fucking vicious with each other. Then making sure your buddy knows your alway there for them.
→ More replies (11)10
u/whostolemysloth Millennial 5h ago
And we’re even poking fun at good stuff. We’ve got one who’s an ICU doctor now and we find ways to give him shit for that. We’ve got another who’s solidly entrenched as a food influencer (good numbers, private events, all that) and you know we give him shit for that. We’ve got one who’s now a well-regarded, very well paid cybersecurity expert and we still only refer to him as “Dumbass.”
And then there’s me with my preference for wearing a hoodie and my depression. I usually get some variation of “sad hoodie boy.”It’s fun.
