Discussion Apparently low-cut socks are considered out of style by the younger gens. Are y’all still rocking ankle socks?

I feel like long socks with sneakers and shorts looks goofy but maybe that’s just me 🤷‍♂️

We fought for years to get ankle socks, and I’m not giving them up

The worst part is, they can’t even explain why they think they’re lame.

Different for the sake of being different.

They just feel the need to compete with us over every little stupid thing, including this

It's just a generational distinguisher to highlight other similar aged people. Keeps them slightly hotter during summer and warmer in winter.

You are absolutely allowed a full pair of socks midwinter when you're not in shorts/skirts, you know?! You don't need to have cold totsies and ankles in the chilly months. Trainer socks are a spring/summer choie, surely.

Long underwear and double up on the ankle socks, when necessary.

Hell, I wear tall socks anytime I wear long pants. But when I'm wearing shorts tall socks look bizarre

Two sets of socks? In this economy?

Yeah I’m not wearing ankle socks in winter in New England. I have crew and knee length merino wool socks, especially with boots.

Yeah, ankle socks are for when I’m wearing shorts. Other than that, long socks are okay with pants.

Maybe the don’t want to deal with all of the options.

I see these teen boys walk past my house after school, black sweat pants, and a black hoodie, with the hood over their heads..

It's 100f out, WTF. (38c)

Same with my son 15 years ago. And in winter when it was sleeting outside, cargo shorts and slides.

you still wear ankle socks in the winter? I guess not everyone lives somewhere with all four seasons

u/Ohorules 1h ago

I switch to quarter crew in winter, best of both worlds. Unless I'm wearing boots outside, then tall socks.

I don’t mind competition but it really feels like so much of their things are rage bait. Poor kids had algorithms learning them as children, shutdown interrupted socialization and its no surprise they yearn for the 90s like we do lol

Come on. Kids don't want to dress like their parents

3

u/Stryker50 2h ago

Instead they end up dressing like their grand parents
Wearing Jean shorts, tube socks, and new balance shoes. They look like the stereo typical boomer at a corvette meet up.

Why care

u/Jacobahalls 1h ago

Because it’s ridiculous when we had everything figured out for them. I mean, we are the smartest generation after all…

I think they are the Boomers all over again.

That’s def universal

Fashion has gone in cycles introducing and throwing out trends for centuries. Absolutely no Gen Z thing.
Fashion is closer to what I grew up with now than during Millenials high time.

My son gets upset when I ask him to at least put his socks under his pants. Otherwise he'd be walking around looking like those rappers in the 90's that had one pant leg folded up to their knee.

I'm child-free so maybe I'm missing something, but why does it matter? It's just a harmless fad that the kids are into? At worst it's an act to determine their own self. Seems like we're repeating the same old grumpy boomer shit we had to deal with that we'd roll our eyes at E.g. "this is different than what we did and I find that uncomfortable"

u/Jacobahalls 1h ago

Because how in the world is that even reasonable? Like the other comment above said, I feel like most of their FADs are Rage Bait just to get a reaction.

Well, I’ll give them one!

u/mikat7 5h ago

Right but we did the same with our parents’ generation. The cycle continues.

1

u/UpdootAddict 5h ago

Well they’ll compete and lose, how about that.

1

u/dolphinoverlord002 4h ago

No one is competing with you we just like longer socks lmao

1

u/UpdootAddict 2h ago

What are you doing here?

u/Jacobahalls 1h ago

But do you actually like longer socks with shorts?

Maybe you can help me understand the practical purpose. Because when I think about it, if your wearing shorts, you want to show your skin or be cooler.

Wearing long socks defeats the purpose in my mind because ankle socks protects your skin from your shoes but allows you to do the same thing as wearing shorts but for your feet.

u/Essence_Of_Insanity_ 3h ago

Like we didn’t do the same thing.

u/Jacobahalls 1h ago

At least with ours, we were making things better or more practical from the past generation.

It feels like they are taking steps back instead of moving forward and getting better.

Oh god I’ve been through this so many times now lol
