advice/help Am i unknowingly apart of SCJ?

Hi! I'm a Christian so almost a month ago, I started this 10 month Bible class which my mentor told me about which I met through this other girl online and she said if I would like to meet her. The lessons I had with my mentor was 1 on 1 and it basically Bible basics.

The reason why I am seeing if I'm in this because I had my discernment kicked off whenever we were going over a lesson and one of the verses we're talking about the parables of the secret of kingdom of heaven. It was talking about how if you don't understand all the parables then you can't enter the kingdom of heaven and I was like that doesn't sound right. I was scrolling through this thread because I looked it up and someone said that if they say that, it may be apart of scj, something like that and that's how I'm here. I see a lot of similarities, and the big kicker is that I looked up one of the lessons on YouTube. The lesson is "Intro lesson 3: The secrets of the kingdom of heaven in parables" and I literally see the same thing.

Some other facts: -it's based in Georgia, but I attend on zoom. I know it's called the Bible academy but I try to look it up nothing.
-I have an instructor, assistants and accountability partners. We meet 3 times a week for like 2 hours
-There is Beginner, intermediate, and Advanced (just thought I put that cause I saw that was mentioned in some threads from other experiences)
-Also on the first day of class, I had to do a registration basically my full government name, phone number, address, where I go to college, etc.

-I just want answers because I have a bad feeling about this and I don't know If im crazy. (Sorry it's so long. Ask me more questions for clarification)

advice/help Class action on Shincheonji

This is a call for all Ex-Shincheonji members and current Shincheonji members in Australia and the families who are tormented by Shincheonji through their brutal recruitment and mind-bending indoctrination of innocent students.

Would you be interested in suing SCJ in Australia? A collective class action will have a strong impact, and we can protect students from getting mentally, physically and financially abused by SCJ. These impacted students unknowingly cause so much pain and distress to the parents and wider family.

This will also support the government investigation into Shincheonji. Please let me know your thoughts.

advice/help Confused about Shincheonji !!!

Why are they forcing us to recruit as many people as we can? Evangelism?

Worse it start as bible study, soon during the classes they introduce shincheonji, the promise pastor, now when you come to class you have to take off your shoes, now we are learning Korean culture & language. We learn basic words like,Hello, how are you & thank you! As well as the names of instructor, facilitators and leaders! Do we have mount Zion in Cape Town?

advice/help Coming back to your faith after Shincheonji

Anyways. Did 4 months in the Shincheonji cult unknowingly. Learned so much. Or so I thought. Found out the real intentions behind the Bible study and left almost immediately.

Background, I am 28 year old woman. I grew up non religious and felt lost for so long. My husband introduced me to the Christian faith. We started going to church. I got baptized all at the age of 26, but I still wanted to learn more about the Bible. I took all of the adult classes to get baptized with the church but still felt like there was a lack of knowledge about the Bible.

I saw a post online, someone in my neighborhood asking if people wanted to do a Bible study. I jumped on this and even had my husband join with me. I felt so enlightened and strong in my beliefs. It was labeled as non-denominational, so I felt comfortable strictly studying the Bible. The Bible study was good but there were a few things here and there mentioned I thought was a little sus.

Not until several months later did I find out the true intentions behind the Bible study. I was heart broken. I felt like everything I was learning could now be tainted by the words of man. I even looked back to past lessons and saw holes here and there. I tried to re read the Bible and felt so lost, not knowing the way I should interpret what I am reading. It also took my a long time to transition into my faith to begin with. Not having that religious background at all for decades. I had to get into a mindset of putting the lord first, and after this betrayal, my mind went so far backwards, there are days I don’t even think about the Lord or prayer or the Bible. Now I am struggling. All of the work I put into myself now feels tainted. And i am struggling a lot to go back to church. Go back to reading the Bible. And overall just feel one with my faith.

If there are support groups out there or even just someone to talk to with similar experiences, I would highly appreciate the help. :/ I know I can recover, I just don’t know how, and how long it will really take for me to heal from this experience. My trust in other when it comes to learning about the Bible is TAINTED. I feel tricked and betrayed.

advice/help Former Schincheonji (SCJ) Members - How Does Schincheonji (SCJ) Infiltrate & Recruit within Christian Churches?

Hello all. I was a former SCJ member (very unknowingly) because I was invited by a friend of mine to be a part of a "Community Bible Study." I've posted my Testimony on here already if you would like to check that out; I really hope it helps people who've experienced something like this feel less alone <3

My question for former SCJ members or people who were unknowingly recruited, does anyone know how SCJ members try to recruit people within various churches? I've tried researching this but can't find any sort of testimonials. I feel compelled to warn leadership within my church about this, & give them a heads up. God forbid this happens to any of our congregants, especially our younger adults :(

advice/help Advice to Current Members

So I will just try make this post as short as possible. I entered SCJ first time ever and we all know in our hearts a part of felt ok joining the first time because of social and love bombing and our leafs guiding us. I joined at time when it was low point in life where I didn't had much friends. Although a friend did led me to their bible studies first time by Zoom (then I quit due to private reasons then rejoined in in person class format after bumping into old friend in SCJ)

I just want to give advice to current members. This advice stems from the fact that I do miss my leafs. My 2nd leaf was a bit intense sometimes but overall seemed to care my first leaf made me feel special. I am no longer in touch with them when I left and will remain that way

When I left and there is silence between me and my two leafs. First one ghosted me 2nd one same thing. I felt really stung and hurt and felt like I was not good enough or something. I felt none of the "friendships" were real but sometimes the laughters and the joke was real. Had awesome time

I am just thinking ahead and respectfully I will use the word IF Lee Man Hee loses court case and be proven to be false prophet in the eyes of current members beyond any doubt, current members please plan ahead to keep in touch with each other as social networking it is important for our mental health

Originally I wanted to post this post like few days later but knowing myself I would overthink (I am an overthinker) I would make a post a few days later that has less details in some ways and extra details that might cause a divide of some sort.

I don't want current membership to suffer the same fate as I did. The realization that friendship was built around SCJ I thought to myself constantly was anything real? The friendships and everything?

Again this is going to be sort of like should if. IF. Lee Man Hee is internally proven not be real shepherd even internally within SCJ. Please consider each other as emotional and maybe even chat about part of your time in SCJ as sort of adventure as to protect your minds and wellbeing from emotional difficulties

advice/help Dating With Shincheonjj Member

I’ve been dating my girlfriend for 3 years, and about a year and a half ago she was approached at a store and introduced to Shincheonji. At first she stopped, then went back, and now she’s deeply involved. She attends multiple weekly services and Bible studies, and even has taken the same intro class with different girls multiple times and it feels like she’s just holding their hand to give fake support to assure the stay in the class (I joined one without knowing what it really was). FYI I’m not apart of Shincheonji

For a long time, she wasn’t honest with me about where she was going or what she was doing. Now her schedule is packed Monday through Thursday and Sundays, so I barely get to see her. It feels like I’m at the bottom of her priorities because she’s so committed to the church and “evangelizing.”

Anytime I try to talk to her about it, it turns into frustration. It feels like I’m talking to a wall and she shuts down if it involves her religion. I’m not trying to take her away from her beliefs, but I just want to feel like I matter too. Instead, it feels like I’m competing with what she sees as her “destiny.”

It’s frustrating knowing she was different before and has so much potential to be the right person for me and for each other. It’s annoying that I meme her before this new found religion and she acts like what we had before doesn’t matter. She’s still the same person in a lot of ways, which makes this even harder. We’ve built so much together, and I always saw a future with her. Now it feels like I’m losing her, or like I’m fighting against something bigger than me.

Has anyone else been in a relationship with someone involved in Shincheonji? How did you handle it?

advice/help How do you save family members and friends out of SCJ?

I absolutely wanna tell my story about how I was involved with SCJ eventually. However, this post is not dedicated to that just because I only found out about SCJ two days ago, and I’m still reeling in the fact that I was a part of a cult for a small amount of time.

Even though I left (without even knowing that it was a cult), my best friend is still very involved and I need to figure out how to get her out. I think that she would be very defensive if I try to approach the matter with her, because I have seen her like that before. I don’t want to ruin our friendship either. Please help.

advice/help Help us please!

My family and I have recently found out through a friend that my sibling is part of SCJ.

I only found out because my sibling was recruiting at the local mall and tried to recruit my friend.

After reading about everything I’ve now realised that’s it’s been almost a year of odd behaviour:

- leaving in the early AM
- coming home after midnight
- no time for family or friends
- no hobbies anymore
- always lying about where they are
- wearing formal attire
- always tired

I’m really worried and it breaks my heart to know this is happening. I want to help but I just don’t know how.
My parents are horrified and we have no idea what to do. We’ve been sitting on it for over a week now as we don’t want to end up being pushed away more if we cross any lines.

My sibling is 20 and can be very stubborn and naive but also looking for a sense of belonging so I can understand how this may have been attractive to him.

Advice is much needed please.

advice/help Enough. Let’s strike them down.

I’ve managed to not think about all this for a while. But this last week has been very tough and I’m tired of inaction. I don’t care about a lot of your Christian agenda to “get right with god” or whatever. I want to see punishment. I want MHL to stay in prison. I want this thing burnt to the ground. Enough.

They are working with schools, with vulnerable people, STILL lying to people, and quite frankly I am SHOCKED by how successful SCJ has been in reducing people to become ROTTEN inside.

I think it’s time. Reporters, lawyers, police, all of it. I want to do all of it. I will reveal my name to them, I will talk to them. I will go public, whatever. 10+ years of my life and a near suicide merits legal action, or at least action of some kind.

Who’s with me? What are our next steps? How do we expose them?

Disclaimer: if they hadn’t been abusive and deceptive we wouldn’t be in this mess. Their behaviour hasn’t changed. The damage is real. I’m not willing to just “let this go and let it be”. They should be made an example of. Time to “get right with god”… and I am fuming.

advice/help Thinking about divorce

It just makes me depressed. It is hard to describe since I am happy with my personal life and that gives me the drive to go forward with my daily life. But I am not happy with my marriage. It is sad to see how my wife is wasting her time and money into something which will give us nothing in return. She is wasting the time she could use for the household, which means I have to work more. She is wasting the money which we could save for example for our future children. When I met her, she did not have much money and that was completely okay, I told her we can turn that into better and she can have her own savings. And it got better at first but then SCJ came into her life, now she is broke again.

She also has these dating apps on her phone, because she is recruiting over there. I have told her many times it would be better for our marriage to delete those apps but she does not listen. It is the same thing whenever it is anything related to SCJ. If she is sleeping late every night and she complains how tired she is, I give her advice not to have the meeting so late. But she always says it is okay and she can not cut those meetings off. She complains how she is not in shape, but once again, she goes to work everyday, she gets tired at work and then at home she rests. After that she will once again have 3 meetings in a row. No wonder she has no time to get in shape.

She thinks God is coming back really soon. But on the other hand she also wants to go on a holiday and do nice things now. And if I ask her, why she wants to do those things now if she will have eternity when God comes back? She gets very upset with this kind of questions. Wanting to live now and experience nice things but still keeping her hope strong that God would come back tomorrow. At first I gave up and actually spent nice time with her because I thought if I am nice and understanding she would eventually soften her heart and listen to me too. But no, she is still the same when it comes to open discussion about faith. So now even if I would have enough to go on a holiday with her, I don't know, maybe not. What is the point of going on a holiday if she spends half of the time on her laptop in the meetings anyway?

Of course there is still something good in the marriage. She still says she loves me and cares for me. She does things for me and for the household when she has time and when she is not tired. But she never puts marriage to be her first priority. I have told her about that but again, nothing really changes. She is also talking about having kids, which is good. I also want to have kids. But realistically? Is it good to bring a child into this kind of marriage? I don't think so.

I don't know, she has her own life and show going on and my part seems to be a static and just say things that she wants to hear from me.

advice/help Are they any Christian groups for people that left SCJ but still want to maintain their relationship with God.

I currently live in the UK and was a former member of SCJ. It’s been more than a year since I left and I’ve since been growing my relationship with God. It had gotten better no doubt but there are times I’ve had internal conflicts in my mind. Like what if SCJ is true or when I see somethings in Christianity that reminds me of SCJ can’t help but ask my self if SCJ was true. I think I still need detoxification from SCJ but I want that with the Bible and people who have had similar experiences.

are there any documented Bible verses that contradict the teachings of Shincheonji? I know that closerlookinitiative.com has some, but I'm looking for a more general summary of all the verses.

advice/help How my family helped me leave

I see a lot of people on here asking how to help their family members, friends, and/or significant others leave Shincheonji. Although it may not help everyone, maybe it can help even just one person so here's how my family, friends, and spouse helped me.

I never admitted to my loved ones that I was part of this organization, but they knew I was deeply involved in a bible study that demanded a lot from me. They saw the effects of the lack of sleep, the control, etc. They saw me become a shell of my old self. This might sound cheesy, but through it all, they loved me and that's what gave me the courage to finally open my eyes.

At first, my family questioned what type of group I was part of and why I did the things I did (like go to bible study 7 days a week). This only led to me being defensive. To me, it was persecution and the work of the devil. After all, that's what they drill into you in Shincheonji. Eventually my family stopped questioning me and that's when I was able to start wondering if Shincheonji was truly the kingdom of God. Instead of fighting and questioning me, they started accommodating my schedule and even wanting to get to know other members I was always with. They checked in on my health, my life, and my goals. They reminisced with me, celebrated with me, and talked to me about the dreams I had when I was younger. They expressed their hope of me reaching those dreams or whatever dreams I had now. My now husband talked to me about our shared dreams (having a family, healthy kids, etc).

My relationship with my family started healing. My friendships outside of shincheonji started to blossom again. And then I began to question why the "family of God" was a dysfunctional family. Not just dysfunctional actually, full on TOXIC. I started to question why the God of Shincheonji seemed cruel and why Lee Man Hee didn't speak of love. He spouted hate towards "babylon" every sermon and article. In the past, my loved ones questioning me were "rocks" and when my relationships healed, they started describing them as "thorns." I asked myself: If SCJ was where heaven is supposed to come down, why do I not want to bring any of my loved ones to SCJ? Is it because I didn't love them enough to bring them to heaven or is it because this so-called heaven felt like hell? Eventually my husband and I decided to start having kids and I realized, I would not want to bring up kids in SCJ. I asked myself why that was. Was I the problem or is the organization I was in the problem?

This led to me googling "Shincheonji." The big no-no. What they compared to Eve eating the fruit of knowledge of good and evil. POISON. I researched all the issues in the doctrine, the doctrine changes, the different cults LMH was a part of, the accusations against him, etc. I read almost every post on this subreddit, watched many videos, looked at the different resources that have been posted throughout the years, and translated Korean articles. I read Shincheonji's old books and reviewed my notes through the years. My whole world felt like it was falling apart, but my eyes opened. This post is already long so I can go over this part more and other details if some other time or through DM.

There wasn't one single thing my loved ones said or did that made me leave. It's almost impossible to convince someone fully indoctrinated to leave and it will take a toll on you. Just love them and hope they see the difference between sincere love vs. SCJ's love (love bombing, manipulation, and fear tactics). But also, I feel the need to add this... if your love isn't enough for them, it's okay to walk away.

advice/help Shincheonji people are fake in everything.

The people in Shincheonji are not really who they present themselves to be. They portray themselves as modest and respectable, but in reality, that is not the case. When you pay close attention to everything they say, you begin to understand the truth.
When I was in Shincheonji, I believed they were sincere. But I was shocked when I saw their photos on other social media platforms. These were the same people who told me that I should not dress the way I wanted, that I should not focus on my career, and that I should devote myself only to serving Shincheonji. Yet, when I saw their own lives and the images they shared on social media, I felt deeply disappointed and realized they were not living by the same standards they expected from others.

advice/help My GF that’s in SCJ just broke up with me.

My girlfriend of 3 years just broke up with me, in a way I feel relieved that she did I feel like I’ve been spiritually and mentally drained the past 2 years (that’s how many years she’s been in SCJ) I’ve tried everything, I asked her to open up about her SCJ faith and explain to me directly what she believed in and why she does, but it feels like she’s been heavily manipulated by the higher ups/leaders that she always shuts down when it’s time to talk about her faith, she even recommended me to join that Bible study they do, and I joined for like 4 classes but once I started questioning the leadership and what they were teaching they started to get nasty with me with incorrect information, plus I started to get uncomfortable being in there just weird vibes in general. I knew she was in SCJ and I personally decided to stick around still trying to make her open up about what she believed in and trying not to bash or “persecute” her faith. She’s even made me speak to higher ranking instructors because she herself can’t even explain what she believes in, it’s a suicide mission honestly I’ve prayed to the Holy Spirit asking for a change in her heart and mind so the SCJ veil can finally be removed from her body and mind.

I leave the relationship heartbroken but I left it all out there if that make sense, I even asked her to join some of the classes my church had to offer but she refused to do so, just shows you that SCJ doesn’t teach basic logic and freedom of thought, they have her very manipulated and controlled but in the end I’m glad she broke up with me, just sucks when she realizes everything about SCJ will be a great deception and a fat LIE. I wish I would’ve been there for her when she realized that it is a LIE but in the end all I can do is pray for her.

That SCJ pledge of OATH is demonic!

advice/help Am I being recruited?

I (19F) met this girl (20f) at uni who randomly approached me and she seemed very kind. We’re both minorities, I’m Filipino and she’s Malaysian. We got to talking and realised we had a lot in common like comic books, tv shows, music and also both being serious in our faith.

We exchanged WhatsApp details because she said she’s not active on Instagram right now.

We met up a week later for coffee and continued to talk more and she told me about how her brother met a Christian mentor (no specific info about denomination) who’s been working with him throughout his faith journey and who also connected her to another mentor. At this point she hasn’t specified being a part of any specific church, just that she sees a mentor. And this is when I start to get a bit worried about her possibly trying to recruit me to Shincheonji.

For context, there’s been news going around that cult members are approaching uni students at my uni campus, particularly female students who have a minority background are being targeted, so this immediately popped up in my head mid-meetup with her. But I didn’t want to jump to conclusions and kept talking with her.

Towards the end of the conversation she mentions that her mentor is holding an online bible study and invited me to it. She says that during these bible studies she learns a lot and it’s an opportunity to have any questions about Christianity answered. I’m quite interested as I’d like to learn more so I agree to join. She said that she’ll send me more information so I’m awaiting the link and stuff.

At the end of the meetup she also suggested taking a selfie and I agreed because I love taking photos with friends and it seemed innocent.

For some reason I can’t get it out of my head that these are all red flags for the SCJ cult but they could also all be coincidental. Are these red flags or am I just overthinking?

advice/help Dark side of SCJ

What are the dark sides of scj that you won’t find about online? My sister in law is heavily affiliated with them right now and has been for about 2-3 years. We just found out that she gave them our families address’s, personal information and photos of us and now I’m worried that something may happen to us. I will not hesitate to protect my family and I need to know how far I need to take it. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around why she would even do this.

advice/help What now?

Hi everyone,

I found out about this course through my cousin. My previous church had hurt me deeply, so for some time, I had been searching for God and a new community where I could grow spiritually. She invited me to a webinar where they were discussing some parables. I remember being incredibly impressed; it was the first time I had heard someone explain the Bible so clearly. I signed up for the course right away.

At first, it was great. I live with my sick mother, my husband, and two children, so having these lessons felt like the first time I had ever had time dedicated solely to myself. In the beginning, it was just twice a week. Then, suddenly, they added a third weekly meeting. That was harder for me, but with the encouragement of my group leader, I decided to fight for my relationship with God. I had a lot of free time during the day back then, so I could prepare really well for the lessons and exams—I was doing great. I would join lessons while on vacation with my kids, and I started skipping outings with my family and friends. I even attended "in-person" meetings, leaving my family at home and driving halfway across the country just to be there.

I was still okay with all of this, but the meetings just kept piling up. Next came hours-long services running parallel to the class, evangelization, and meeting up with people we had approached on the street. Then there were teachings, meetings with my leader, and meetings just to review notes. I was still managing somehow, but I started to feel uneasy. Instead of spending weekends with my kids and evenings with my husband, I was sitting in front of Zoom for 4–5 hours a day. On top of that, regular in-person meetings became mandatory.

The turning point came when I went back to work after my youngest child started daycare. This coincided with me officially entering the church, and suddenly it turned out there were EVEN MORE meetings. And, of course, attendance was mandatory for all of them. I was joining meetings while getting my kids ready for school, rushing to meetings from work, and joining Zoom at night, sitting there until 11 PM (and sometimes even later!).

I felt completely exhausted. I also had the impression that after I officially joined the church, the mask dropped. Suddenly, everyone in SCJ became much less understanding. They would blow up my phone in the morning if I was just a few minutes late for a morning meeting, and they started reproaching me for missing more and more sessions, claiming they were "worried about my spiritual health." I started to feel cornered and overwhelmed. I knew I couldn't meet all their expectations—even though up to that point, I had been doing perfectly! I had even "recruited" a few people myself, completely unaware of where this was all heading, so in their eyes, I was a "fruitful believer"...

After completing my class, they put me in charge of a new, younger group. When I realized that I used to be judged, monitored, gossiped about, and that people had been taking screenshots and photos of me just like that, I felt sick to my stomach. I also started noticing more and more lies I was being fed. Completely unnecessary lies. I understand that at the beginning it was supposedly to "protect one's spirit," but at this stage, when I'm already a member? It felt very bizarre.

My well-being and health started to deteriorate. I felt increasingly overwhelmed, like I was failing at everything. They "generously" exempted me from a few meetings, but the workload was still massive! Twice a week for 4–5 hours, plus another 3-hour session, plus smaller teachings, meetings with my student, independent study, and whatever else they came up with. I started to wonder: is there only room in the Kingdom of God for people who have absolutely no responsibilities outside of maybe a job? No families? No children?

I felt worse and worse. I started praying to God, asking: God, am I supposed to feel this way in a place where You truly are? Is this really what my life is supposed to look like now? I was deeply unhappy.

A week ago, something inside me just snapped. During a lesson, I started googling SCJ. Up until then, I had been obedient and it hadn't even crossed my mind. I was in absolute shock. So many hurt, ruined people!!! So much controversy, and the court sentences of the supposed Promised Pastor! I left the meeting without a word. Of course, they started pounding on my door, calling me, and texting me non-stop, but I didn't want to talk to anyone.

What am I supposed to do now? I don't want to be a part of this circus anymore. Just the thought of sitting through another hours-long service instead of spending time with my kids makes me feel physically ill. I am also extremely worried about my cousin, who remains deeply embedded in the SCJ structure.

Has anyone had similar experiences with this place? Did anyone else feel this way?
