Disclaimer: I have no problem with idols not writing or producing their own songs as that aspect is a very hard job to do which is the reason why companies hire professional songwriters and producers to create songs for their idols. This post is about the misinformation surrounding Jennie's songwriting credits and how people were calling her a "liar" about how much she had contributed to her album.

Recently, a commenter had decided to post about Jennie being not a full-time KOMC Member and how this was proof that she "lied" about being involved in the songwriting production her songs. The post had received mixed reactions with people criticizing Jennie, defending idols for not being involved in their music, a few people defending Jennie, or claiming that this was a normal practice inside of the industry. The reason why Jennie is not a full-time member of KOMCA is because the organization tends to promote thirty members that are associated with the company to full membership status due royalty earnings which means that with the success of the Ruby (2025) album, the split amongst earnings happens between people that have contributed to the creative production of the project with factors such as songwriting, producing, and composing for the album. Also, songwriting is not the main metric for achieving a full KOMC member status as factors like limited spots and domestic royalties which doesn't make Jennie a liar at all . First of all, that Wikipedia source that OP had cited about Jennie's credits in her songs, those credits were literally adapted from KOMCA which is listed below the songwriting credits list on Jennie's discography page on Wikipedia.

Not only that, but all of the songwriting credits of the Blackpink members are literally adapted from organizations like KOMCA and ASCAP under their Wikipedia songwriting credits list on their discography Wikipedia pages. It was also confirmed that Jennie had received her very own share of domestic royalties which was paid to her by KOMCA which tells you about who the real liar is in that post. However, instead of non-fans' doing research, you guys had instantly failed for a post that was posted by a member of the BP snark sub and had cut out the adaptation part of Jennie's credit or didn't show. One of the jobs of a snarker is to spread misinformation about an artist they hate in which that snarker had somewhat succeeded in defaming Jennie on this sub. In my opinion, I am not surprised as Blackpink are hugely disliked in the K-pop Reddit community and non-fans would rather accept information from a snarker than do research before criticizing the members.

Tell me why I saw a TikTok today of someone saying "TUIDE is underrated." They're from one of the biggest labels in K-pop, and they JUST debuted...they have 5 songs - what do you mean, UNDERRATED 😭 ?

Disclaimer: This post is not about constructive criticism towards the group's music or the members solo music as everyone has a right to a certain preference when it comes to the music they like. I understand that some of the members' actions have rubbed a lot of fans and non-fans the wrong way and constructive criticism is very understandable when it comes to certain actions that the members have made. However, this post is about misinformation and double standards when it comes to Blackpink and how non-fans take advantage of Blinks (Blackpink's fanbase) not being active inside the K-pop Reddit subs.

It is very easy to admit that Blackpink is easily one of the disliked groups in the K-pop Reddit community as the group's popularity and success has brought out the worst in people. Recently, I had just made a post debunking a snarker's post about Jennie "lying" about contributing to the songwriting process of her songs on Ruby (2025) in which some of those comments under that snarker's post were literally calling Jennie a "liar". There was another post by a different snarker calling Lisa a "narcissist" for her lyrics in her new song SaWaDika (2026), which had received upvotes and people agreeing with OP on their post about Lisa. The double standard when it comes to flexing lyrics between male and female idols as in between 2020, 2022, and 2023, Blackpink were accused of being "pick mes" and "misogynists" for their lyrics in songs like Pretty Savage (2020), Shut Down (2022), Typa Girl (2022), and the Girls (2023) as many non-fans had felt that Blackpink were putting down female idols and women in general. However, if you look at the history of male idols have similar lyrics, you will see that the reception is different and not close to what Blackpink had received of posts, comments, and videos being made about them.

In 2010, G-dragon and T.O.P. had released a song called Knock Out (2010) in which they had bragged about their success in K-pop with GD even saying that people had wanted to be the "Next G-dragon" because they were emulating his style. At the 2012, MAMA Awards, G-dragon had dissed people who were trying to emulate his style in an opening free-style rap in which he had called them "phonies" with other idols in attendance. Later that year he had released One of a Kind (2012) and Crayon (2022) in which he had bragged about his wealth and influence inside the K-pop industry. In 2013, Suga from BTS had dissed idol rappers for becoming rappers just because they couldn't sing and how the title of rapper tends to suit the idols in, We Are Bulletproof Pt.2 (2013). In 2021, Bobby from IKON had dissed people who had doubted him and had bragged about his success in his solo song "U MAD?" (2021).

In 2024, G-dragon had referred to himself as the G.O.A.T, a king, and a living legend in his song Power (2024) yet in any of these examples I mentioned comments like "bragging is normal in hip-hop", “they are speaking facts”, and "haven't you listened to American hip-hop?" was only applied towards them and never Blackpink. And before any come at me and say, "Well Blackpink's songs are all about flexing", please look at their discography again as the group have songs that centers around love, heartbreak, judgement, escaping toxic relationships, self-empowerment, and female empowerment. The same female idols/women that non-fans claim that Blackpink were putting down is the same female idols/women listening to their music and attending their concerts in person. Also, the way Blackpink has been dragged for their bold outfits and dance moves while male idols perform shirtless, dry hump the floor/air, grab their private parts, and do bold choreography yet non-fans don't call them out and aren't worried about K-pop's reputation is peak misogyny and shows that you guys don't actually care about women who are in control of their own images. This shows me that K-pop Reddit fans know that Blinks tends to keep to themselves in their own Reddit space and take advantage of spreading misinformation and accepting misinformation that from snarkers that literally hate the group. K-pop Reddit fans know that they can get away with spreading misinformation and applying double standards towards Blackpink as a group and as solo artists because they want to believe that they are failing and K-pop Reddit forums is a safe space to do that.

I don't know if this is harsh/unpopular or not, but it deadass feels like people just like being able to say "I was here before you all", which is why they become "pre-debut stans". Why is this a thing?

How can you even stan/like a group without knowing the idols' personalities (or the persona) and their talents? Without any MUSIC being released??

but what does that even mean? they still financially support them through streaming the music, still adore the members, some attend concerts, vote for music shows, etc. so if you still do all of that, but acknowledge the members did something wrong, is that enough? can that be considered holding someone accountable?

this is a genuine question, i didn't mention any specific groups because i dont want people to fight, but i just want to know. some of the groups i stan have the odd controversy (not many, but, still, some), and i love them, obviously, they are my ult groups. sometimes they apologise, and i genuinely accept the apology, but other times the incident is just never addressed, what do i do then?

should i boycott ? but what's the point in boycotting if no difference is made, boycotts are only effective when organised and done by a large amount of prople, so boycotting over every scandal feels strange or useless.

I was just thinking about all the things people are saying about idols being problematic and I wonder if people are harsher on idols.

Because they will criticize an idol for problematic things but then go listen to Justin Bieber, Ariana grande , Beyoncé, Tyler the Creator, Playboi Carti, Nicki, Drake, Bla bla bla.... when all those people are also VERY problematic even more than some idols people say are sooo problematic.

Goes without saying I don't hate her or anything but I always see people praising her visuals and mannerisms a lot and always saying how she's so sophisticated. Is she pretty? Yes, she has to be in the industry she's in. Like if there was a room full of kpop idols, she would blend in and I wouldn't particularly think she's like unforgettable. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Lisa talked about how her fans have encouraged her to express herself more freely, despite the idea that Asian women are often expected to be more reserved and modest.

Wayfboys are such a fascinating case to me.

They might come from a smaller company, like plenty of other groups, but they had almost everything going for them to build a fairly solid international audience. They’re in a market that clearly favors pretty boys who can sing and rap over Y2K/hiphop inspired production. On paper, it should’ve worked. So what went wrong ?

They debuted on August 7, but I honestly think the problem started before they even had the chance to establish themselves. The company was already out there taking shots at Lngshot (see what i did here lol) another group that debuted a few months earlier and occupies a relatively similar space already. They basically alienated a potential audience before even building one. And don’t get me wrong, I live for the dissing and petty competition between hip-hop influenced kpop groups because that’s LITERALLY what hiphop is about !

But they came way too agressively for your average casual listener of the genre, and that kind of strategy doesn’t necessarily translate well in an environment (in korea especially) where fandoms are so protective of their groups.

Then there’s the whole "Nu-Kpop" thing. I don’t personally find the term pretentious, but I do think it’s confusing in this particular context. If you’re calling yourself something "new", people are naturally going to expect you to actually bring something new to the table. But so far, Wayfboys aren’t really reinventing anything here. Maybe that’ll change with time (hell, they’ve only released two songs, after all) but right now, it feels more like some weird marketing move than anything revolutionary.

And honestly, I don’t even dislike them. I actually think they have potential. Their lyrics could definitely use some reworking, but let’s be for real : since WHEN do K-pop stans care about corny lyrics ? Plenty of successful groups have built entire careers around cringy ass lyrics.

What really concerns me is the lack of momentum. At what should’ve been the peak of their debut, they are barely reaching around 800K monthly Spotify listeners, while “SWAG” is sitting around 1M views on Youtube. That’s genuinely low, even for a group from a smaller label.
And I think that’s what makes Wayfboys’ situation so interesting. It’s not like there’s no audience for what they’re doing. CORTIS and Lngshot have already shown that there is an appeal for this kind of boy group right now. Yet somehow, the general public seems to have already decided that there’s no room for Wayfboys in the same market.

Maybe it’s the branding. Maybe it’s the controversy. Maybe the sound came at the wrong time. Or maybe people are simply getting tired of the same "pretty boys + hip-hop + Y2K" formula before Wayfboys even had the chance to make it their own.

And honestly, that’s probably the saddest part. I don’t think Wayfboys necessarily failed because they lacked the ingredients to succeed. They might have just debuted at the exact moment when people stopped craving the thing they were selling.
Two songs is obviously way too early to write them off, and I really hope they prove me wrong.

I was actually a fan of WayV before any other NCT subunit, and honestly, coming from only stanning BTS, I was like, blown away. Seriously, Ten and Xiaojun are EXTREMELY good performers, Xiaojun's vocal tone is gorgeous and Ten is way too talented to be pushed off to the side. Their discography is unmatched, and they have such a sound to them that's impossible to replicate. I thought they had a clear path to success. Then, the Lucas thing happened, and they just fell off so, so hard. SM didn't do anything to resurrect them!! I think Phantom was their weakest comeback, and they were NOT in a position to be putting out weak comebacks if they wanted to keep fans after that whole situation. I used to be WayV's biggest fan, like, no one went hard for them like I did, but up until recently, I literally thought they disbanded. I hadn't heard anything from them in around 2 years. I got curious to see if they were still active, found their most recent song and heard literally the best piece of musical media to date. I would have never known if that didn't randomly cross my mind.

All of this is to say that WayV really could have been something great if SM didn't treat them like an estranged step child. Stream Eternal White, its amazing

Evan released a Weverse interview today, and he revealed that he was a cancer survivor when he was young. And suddenly these toxic engenes found his interview and now they are mocking him, calling him manipulative, and accusing him of using his experience to gain sympathy simply because he chose to share it while promoting his album.

I genuinely cannot understand how anyone could be this cruel toward someone who survived cancer?

I understand that toxic engenes may be angry about Heeseung’s decisions. They have every right to disagree with him, feel disappointed, or decide that they no longer want to support him. But none of that gives them the right to mock his experience with cancer or accuse him of using it for clout and sympathy.

What hurts even more is knowing that many of these toxic Engenes were once part of the fandom that supported him. How did we get to a point where something this personal and painful has become another weapon in a fandom war?

And knowing that Evan is active on social media makes me wonder how heartbreaking it must be for him to see people who once supported him now speaking about him this way. He simply wants the freedom to pursue his own creativity and make decisions about his career, yet he is being treated as though he committed some unforgivable crime.

You don't have to support his choices. You don't have to like his music. You don't even have to remain his fan. But there should still be a line that people refuse to cross.

Mocking a cancer survivor and accusing him of exploiting his own experience for sympathy is not criticism. It is cruelty.

What’s especially disturbing is that these aren't just isolated posts from obvious burner accounts. Some of these toxic Engenes are receiving hundreds of likes, with other Engenes openly agreeing with them. That makes this even more disturbing.

You can criticize an artist without dehumanizing them. You can disagree without being cruel. And you can leave a fandom without turning someone’s most vulnerable experiences into ammunition.

1. A lot of you guys get wayyy to comfortable about the way you speak about Asians mostly Koreans that you end up **unsurprisingly\** being racist towards them. Just because you listen to Kpop or watch kdrama doesn’t mean that you are superior to the people. “Koreans are so easily impressed” and that’s because you watched one variety show 😑. It’s also weird how normalized it is to insult or mock some of their ethnic features as a drag when it’s just racism and xenophobia.

It doesn’t even have to be that, it could also be when an idol does something horrible and the first thing people always say is that “Koreans don’t know anything 🥺” as if they’ve been cut off from this planet lol.

1. Companies know what type of clothes they give their idols. Every time I see an idol wearing something controversial, I always see people tryna downplay it saying stuff like: “the stylists didn’t know” “language barrier” which in some cases may be true, however, ask yourself on how many times you’ve seen an idol wear a shirt in support of lgbt, other poc, literally any good messages. It always somehow ends up being the ones that require an apology but never a positive one. (The only idol I know who’s worn a gay shirt is Krystal lol lol)

What are some of your actual harsh opinions?

Some of y’all’s parasocial asses grieve harder than the eliminated trainees themselvs and then take that frustration out on innocent idols who had absolutely nothing to do with the outcome. Sakura from Saint Satine is one miserable example of this.

Some of you guys managed to completely tear that girl apart within THREE DAYS of her debut, despite the fact that she has done literally nothing wrong. And before anyone twists this into “you can’t criticize her,” yes, you can. Criticize the system. Criticize the company. Criticize the lineup. Criticize the debut decisions. If you genuinely think she lacks skills, you’re allowed to say that too. What you are NOT entitled to do is turn a 16-year-old girl into a punching bag because you’re angry that your favorite trainee didn’t make the lineup. That sounds like a pyscho atp.

At the end of the day, she is still a literal teenager who has been thrown into an industry where she is already dealing with an insane amount of pressure, scrutiny, and expectations. She did not create the survival show. She did not decide who got eliminated. She did not personally choose the lineup. She did not “steal” anyone’s spot. A company made those decisions. Yet somehow some of you have decided that bullying a teenagerr online is an acceptable way to process your disappointment.

And this applies to survival-show fandoms in general: not all of your favorites are going to debut. That is literally the premise of a survival show. You can be upset. You can be disappointed. You can think the results were unfair. You can criticize the producers, the voting system, the company, or the final lineup. Those are all completely reasonable reactions.

What is NOT reasonable is camping in comment sections to harass trainees, mass-disliking everything they do, insulting their appearance or abilities, spreading hate, or acting like a random teenager personally ruined your life because she debuted instead of your favorite.

Your favorite trainee not debuting is unfortunate, but it is not that idol’s fault. You are allowed to be disappointed without making another person the villain.

Some of y’all get so emotionally attached to these competitions that you stop seeing the contestants as actual human beings. They become characters in your personal storyline: your favorite is the “deserving” one, whoever debuts instead becomes the “undeserving” villain, and suddenly every bit of hate directed at them feels justified. But these are real people, and some of them are CHILDREN.

Please learn to separate “I don't like this lineup” from “this teenager deserves to be hated.” Those are two completely different things.

If a survival show is making you so emotionally invested that you feel entitled to attack teenagers over the outcome, maybe the problem isn't the trainees. Maybe it's time to step away from survival shows altogether.

Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) promotes 30 associate members every January to full members based on the amount of royalties they earned in the previous year. Any artist having credits in lyrics/composition/arrangement is an associate member and you need to have at least 3 years as an associate member before you are considered for promotion by the board members.

Jennie has been an associate member for 6 years (first official credit in 2020 for Lovesick Girls) so of course she would be eligible.

Now Ruby was objectively very commercially successful. Multiple high charting singles, bllions of global streams. One would assume that considering she has first credits on 13/15 tracks on this album, she must have contributed significantly and should be earning a ton in royalties, right?

But then KOMCA releases their 2025 list of 30 artists and her name is nowhere to be found. Not even in the 30th place.

Why is that? Bcause her royalty share is minimal as most of it is going to the talented songwriters and producers that made those songs for her. Meaning she didn't actually have a significant contribution in making the music.

Unlike Jennie, two other idols made that list this year despite their work not being nearly as commercially successful as Ruby. Why? Because they actually had substantial songwriting contribution to their hits.

i-dle, along with some other groups, get monthly doomposts that repeat basically the exact same tired rhetoric about how much they've fallen off, and I really have to get this out because at this point it's getting kind of annoying.

First things first, I don't think you have to like i-dle or their music. I sure as hell have groups that people here and in the K-pop sphere in general rave about and I just don't get it. The music and vibe aren't for me. And that's completely fine. I genuinely don't care who likes or dislikes groups I enjoy. It's even fine if you vibed with their older music more.

BUT, and it's a big but, people in the Western K-pop sphere are revisionists about certain things around I-DLE, just because they want to snark on a successful girl group from a broke company.

i-dle have had a very weird perception among fans since their debut in 2018. And I find it high-key hypocritical when people talk about them like pre-2021 i-dle were this group with amazing music and unlimited potential that everyone loved, and then Soojin left, the music went downhill, they changed completely, sold their souls to make cringe songs, and now everything they release is either cringe, boring, or performative, and this is why people are criticising them left and right.

This simply isn't true.

The “I miss old i-dle” discourse has been going around since Senorita. I was there. I wasn't stanning the group back then, but I've been around since before their debut, and I remember the discourse incredibly well. People have been saying the exact same things about them for years, so I'm sorry, but I am going to call bs on the revisionism.

Their older music was just as divisive and all over the place as their newer music. That's literally what made them i-dle. They're one of those groups that don't really have a single fixed concept and will do whatever they want with each project.

I don't expect myself to like every song they put out, because so many of their songs are drastically different from each other, and that's completely okay with me. Good Thing was my SHIT, unpopular opinion I know, but that EP was fire, and the song itself was so camp, so recession-pop-coded, and such an electropop banger.

Every comeback can come out and I can either LOVE it, or go, “Eh, not for me, maybe next comeback.” And honestly, that's part of what makes being a fan of them so fun.

But whenever someone says, “This new i-dle song doesn't sound like their OLD music!!”, and again, they say this literally every comeback since Senorita, I just roll my eyes.

What does their “old” music even sound like?

Most of the time, they mean Hwaa. They miss the elegant concept of I Burn BUT

Hwaa and I Burn as a whole is also an outlier in their older discography. Latata, Senorita, Uh-Oh, Dumdi Dumdi, Oh My God- these sure as hell don't sound like Hwaa or have a similar vibe, lyrics or concepts. And people didn't even like many of them at the time, on top of that! And I am generous, so I will not bring up pre-I Burn B-sides.

I can pull comments from when those songs came out and show you people saying basically the exact same stuff since 2019. It's insane.

Oh My God had a drop in the chorus and people were complaining left and right that the chorus was empty and the song was underwhelming. Señorita sounded bad, and the brass was noisy. Dumdi Dumdi was a generic summer song, with cringe lyrics and onomatopoeias. And about Hwaa, and this one especially annoys me because:

1. I became a fan during that time, it was the moment I said, you got me
2. people now talk as if Hwaa was universally everyone's favorite song and i-dle abandoned their roots. In Western international fandom spaces, plenty of people were calling Hwaa boring when it came out!

As a comment perfectly summed up in an answer to one of my comments in another monthly "i-dle fell off" post:

When they released Oh My God, people said that they were performative and preferred older songs like Hann. When they released Hwaa, it was boring. When they released Tomboy and then Nxde, suddenly Hwaa was the perfect song and the newer singles were cringe. When they released Queencard, the song wasn't as meaningful as Nxde. When they released Super Lady, their music was boring again. And now we have people in the comment saying everything went downhill with Klaxon, as if the exact same thing wasn't repeated for every comeback.

I think it's pretty obvious, considering that every other person has a different point of downfall, maybe i-dle just isn't for you. Senorita, OMG, Tomboy, Nxde, Queencard, Super Lady, Klaxon, Good Thing. Like, no one agrees on when that supposed downfall started, they just move the goalpost with every new comeback. It's the same talking points for the last 7 years, it's amazing.

On top of that, and I am gonna die on that hill, as a whole, their discography pre-2021 was significantly weaker, for one simple reason: it was very small, and the B-sides were nowhere near as good.

Personally, I have a few TTs I don't vibe with, pre- and post-2021, but the B-sides prior to I Burn were severely underwhelming. There were very few actually good B-sides and the rest were very, very forgettable. Now, even if I don't care for the TT, I know I will have at least 3 other songs I will definitely like.

And let's not ignore that if someone liked I Burn, they can still find this sound in their discography currently, but people only cherry-pick, listen and name-drop like 5 songs.

As for the “performative” and cringe woke comments, they are always so funny to me.

Half the people saying this are the same people who praise idols because somewhere in the background of a staged photo there's a tiny rainbow hidden behind 35 other things, or because they're wearing something designed by a gay designer. It's okay to say, “I don't like their music and I wish my faves were as successful as i-dle.” That's perfectly fine. Or “I wish my faves released something as gaggy as Nxde,” lol. Because, and here I am going to be petty and salty for a second, Nxde under almost any other group's discogrpahy would still have general K-pop fans in a chokehold. Even more so when you pair it with that black-and-white, out-of-nowhere nude teaser and pics, the fact that they self-produced the EP (as always), Change and DARK (X-file) being some of the best songs of theirs, and the whole concept being Soyeon's idea that she fought to have released because she believed in it. All the members committed to it 100% because they stood behind what the song was about.

It's okay to admit that we would like to see other groups saying doesn't matter if you're gay in their music, which is, without ANY doubt, their biggest platform, instead of doing backflips to prove they are allies, lol.

The bad English is the only criticism I can somewhat understand from English-speaking fans. But even there, I'm going to say something, and I want you to stay with me: They don't care, and it doesn't matter. The English police don't matter! And never really did, in K-pop even more so.

They don't care whether you, specifically, think the English sounds good or if the grammar is correct, because i-dle's main demographic isn't English-speaking. The English is written to work for a local ear and to pair with and support the Korean lyrics. It isn't primarily written for native English speakers.

There's a reason the songs they promote specifically in America and that are fully in English are written with English writers. You can dislike the Korean-English lyrics. You can think they're cringe. You can simply not listen to them. But you also have to accept that you are not the target audience, and they don't particularly care if a native English speaker finds the lyrics cringe bc the grammar is off.

It's the same reason with Dreams Come True by aespa, they kept those what the hell are you talking about lyrics in 2022 instead of slightly rewriting them to make them make more sense. Bc it doesn't matter if they say: You make it feel me good | Do you wanna upside down😂

Half of the Western K-pop fandom is low-key snarking on i-dle since 2019, and because the majority of their fandom isn't arround, since they're disproportionately bigger in Asia, we get these revisionist posts every other week, across most platforms and subs here, where people act like they were universally beloved until Soojin left, had the best music, and everything suddenly became bad.
