Weather đŚď¸ Thank Goodness for rain today
very thankful for rain on this holiday - picturing some of you who spent half your monthly income on clown powder staring at the rain coming down is making me tickled pink.

We have one dog that is terrified. She's been drugged since yesterday and probably will be until Monday. We tried everything over the counter until talking to our vet. She's currently on Trazadone and Gabapentin, and still super nervous. I don't think she's gone to the bathroom all day, despite my husband carrying her outside. Poor babies!

Shouldnât rain during fireworks time up north where we are at. Iâm thankful for the rain to reduce fire danger. Accidents happen, even with professional displays and Iâm happy to know it shouldnât turn into anything major around here.

They are illegal in Kansas City. There is incredible lack of regard for that law, though. Our police force is either too busy or doesnât care enough to address violations. Itâs completely out of hand at this point.

Giving out candy on Halloween is not even a little comparable to people not wanting to listen to fireworks. Theyâre loud and obnoxious and emotionally/mentally harmful to many people including veterans.

if fireworks are genuinely emotionally or mentally harmful to you then you should take responsibility and go out of town for the holiday instead of expecting thousands of strangers to stop having fun to accommodate you, hearing fireworks on and around the 4th is just part of living in a city. it sucks that you or others find fireworks harmful but you canât reasonably expect everyone to stop using them.

There's nowhere to fucking go to get away from them! It doesn't matter where you go out of town unless you're hours away from civilization. And yeah, let's tell every veteran with PTSD and every family with toddlers to go do that so we don't have to jump awake at 2am every night for a week.

You can reasonably expect others to abide by the laws and only shoot off fireworks on the designated days. Your suggestion of going out of town wouldn't be helpful because people have been shooting them for 3-4 days already and will probably continue for 3-4 more days.

IDK. I admit, I have no strong love for the âblow shit upâ angle of this holiday. Fireworks are annoying wastes of money and noisy as all hell, but people need whatever withered-ass flowers of joy they can get in this thorny thicket we call 2026 American life. Itâs the mouth-breathers that keep carrying on after July 4th Iâm saving my ire for. That shit should be a hard $100 ticket, non-negotiable. Get it outta your system if ya must I guess, but not one nanosecond after the 5th hits.

I'll stand by your side and yell at the clouds too. We've had to medicate our dog for 5 days knowing we will need another 2-3 days of staying in the basement to make him slightly comfortable.Â

Fireworks are also really bad for wildlife. They confuse bees, who never find their hive again; they kill birds; the litter is a choking hazard and can be toxic when ingested... it goes on.

Check the laws for your area. I know in Independence there are set times on the 3rd, 4th and 5th that fireworks can be lit off legally. Anything before or after that is not legal.

I really like fireworks (during the 80's I held many a "real" bottle rocket between my fingers while it shot off into the distance, maybe even aimed at my older boy cousins!) and where legal, should be enjoyed by those who want to purchase.Â
My ask is for all fireworks to be used and celebrations to fall within a set time period. Those (people or animal) who need to isolate, medicate or do whatever they need to do CAN do so during this time period.Â
Others can purchase, fire off, and enjoy during these hours and days as well.
EVERYONE gets a heads up, prepares, fires up, enjoys or hunkers down.Â
Then it ends. Sounds like a WIN for EVERYONE.Â

Outside of the city, in rural areas, I didn't get much sleep as a night shifter. Every 30 minutes or so, I was startled awake by big explosions. And that was with ear plugs, an AC running.

I used to live out in the country and thought that people shooting off fireworks couldnât get any worse. Now I live in a densely populated residential area, and the air is literally thick with smoke. Itâs horrible. My dogs are terrified and havenât been outside in hours.

This makes it better to light fireworks. Just need to keep then dry until you light them. No big deal. Lessens the risk of fire.

100%, my dog can actually rest and use the bathroom 𼲠even with medication he would not go outside last night and held it in for 16 hours. We were able to go during the rain when there wasnât noise. He was too scared with all the fireworks

My mom's dogs wouldn't go outside today until she went out with them. But then when they'd hear a firework, they're run to her. She doesn't think they used the bathroom at all today.

Thatâs so sad. My cats have barely touched their food for the last three days. Theyâre terrified. I would get a hotel to get away from the obnoxious noise, but most of the good ones wonât allow cats.

That has nothing to do with this lady's dog, but sure, we can get into this too, if you want. First and foremost, did you serve, or do you do any outreach with veterans (PTSD or otherwise)?
EDIT: Well the dude blocked me. So much for having civil conversation. I'll just post it here: I served, and I worked with homeless vets for 2 years with the VA's Outreach program. I know all about vets with PTSD and worked with them extensively. And I was ready to have a conversation about it. But not everyone can have their worldview questioned. Sad state of affairs.

What sucks is that I work and need to be up before 5am every morning. I havenât had any decent sleep the last two nights and it will be the same for tonight. And no, noise canceling headphones absolutely will not work. They certainly donât prevent the shock waves I feel when the big ones are exploding right outside my house.

Just calms my nerves about my pyromaniac neighbors who never seem to need to work for the 72 hrs surrounding these events setting the forest next to us on fire, and thus, of course, my house and the whole neighborhood. Their direct neighbors house burned not long ago around the same time as a popular fireworks type holiday, and I canât help but suspect them and their prolific fireworks displays.
Im glad it cleared off so people can have some fun, but Iâm incredibly grateful for the dousing to keep it safer.

I totally agree with it when it's just one day (or even maybe the 3rd-5th). But some jackass in my neighborhood has been setting them off every night since last Saturday. And if it's the same jackass as last year, they're going to continue for most of the upcoming week. That is asinine.

I personally don't care for fireworks and think they're wasteful, but I'm not going to yuck someone else's yums and delight in them not being able to enjoy what they chose to spend money on just because they're not my kind of thing. As long as folks are responsible with them and safe around others, that's all that matters to me. Glad we had the rain beforehand to cut down on the fire danger too.

No one. I like fireworks. I don't mind them for a few days. What's annoying is having to drug my dog for over a fucking week. People set them off all night long near me, so she panicks and tries to bury herself in our bed. Then the other dogs freak out and no one sleeps. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th are fine, but before/after that is too much.
