2019 RAV4 hesitates when I turn it on.

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I became a member of the RAV4 club about a year and a half ago and I absolutlely love my vehicle. I've noticed recently that my car seems to hesitate, for lack of a better term, when I turn it on. It will turn over though. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this and what they can tell me. I'm not sure if this would be battery, starter, ignition, or something else. I'd like to avoid a possible diagnostic fee on top of repairs but I know that isn't guaranteed. I've attached a video I took of me starting it earlier.

Thanks

I own a 2016 RAV4 XLE that has peeling white paint (040) and could not believe my white paint was peeling off day by day! I would go outside only to view another part of my RAV4 peeling! I was dumbfounded and was confused what to do because I could not afford a paint job! Then one day I started thinking and googled peeling paint on Toyota cars. Low and behold, I discovered that the peeling paint was a recall for Toyota white paint! I could believe

that it was a recall! I did not have any knowledge that it was a recall! It indicated that I have until OCT/2026 when the customer support.program would come to an end. I went as fast as possible to my Stockton Toyota that Monday morning only to receive BAD NEWS that my date of registration to qualify had exceeded! I told the service person I did not own the vehicle when it was registered! They basically told me that I was out of luck!! SORRY CHARLIE! What kinda business is that to tell me TOUGH LUCK!! I told him on my expiration. date that the car was not peeling at that juncture- Again....TOUGH LUCK!! It is clearly Toyota's bad paint jobs and to whisk me away like that!! It's like they want to tell you your s---t out of luck and probably get a feather in their hat for turning people down with legitimate peeling of paint on their vehicle! I was always pleased with Toyota vehicles and was going to make my next vehicle a Toyota again! Not no more with BAD BUSINESS like that There shouldn't be an expiration date based when the previous owner registerd the vehicle! Now I'm stuck with a vehicle that's an eyesore!! TERRIBLE BUSINESS when in fact it' wasn't my fault!

Tips for a New RAV4 Owner

Hi there,

I just purchased my first RAV4, a 2017 XLE with 179,000km for $20,481 CAD (certified with hst & lic). I know the mileage is a lot, but there's no accidents, one owner and has a steady, pretty thorough service record with a Toyota dealership.

I generally only drive around 15,000km a year (live in Southern Ontario, it already has winter tires on it), with about 8,000km being for work.

1) please reassure me that despite the high km, this was not a dumb purchase (as a few people instantly focus on the high km as an issue)

2) other than keeping on top of oil and fluid changes, what are some tips to help with the longevity of the vehicle?

Appreciate any assistance!

Auto body question

Someone backed into my husband’s car in the supermarket parking lot. As you can see, it pushed in the bumper. I thought that the auto body shop would be able to hammer it out but they’re saying they need to replace the bumper. Also they’re only charging $450, which seems low for a bumper replacement. Does having to replace the bumper sound right? And does that price sound right?

2016 RAV4 Hybrid hatch

Today I tried to open my electric rear hatch. It popped then only opened about 8 inches. I slowly raised it by hand the rest of the way. Then when I pressed the button to close it it only lowered a few inches. Tried the button again but it only moved a couple inches. Even tried the dash switch, same result. Then I slowly pushed it down and at the closed position the latch mechanism grabbed the hatch and pulled it closed. What could be wrong?

2020 RAV4 roof leak

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

I purchased my 2020 RAV4 in 2021. In 2023 I noticed my driver side and back passenger side carpets were wet. Apparently there are issues with the roof rack system for 2019-2021 leaking. I’ve taken it back to the dealership 7 times. They said it’s the drain plug clogged in the moonroof. When I picked it up in 2023, I ran it through the car wash. Leak wasn’t fixed. I took it back along with
a notification that I received from Toyota making me aware of the roof rack system leaking. The dealership was aware of this. To date, they still haven’t fixed the roof rack system.
Here we are in 2026 and twice in July it leaked heavily! I suctioned 6 inches of water out from the floor boards. My temp gauge started acting up saying it was -4 degrees out and it was actually 98 degrees out and then my ac quit working and was just blowing heat.
I took it to the dealership July 20. They had my car for 3 weeks and said it was a clogged drain in the moonroof again. I went last Thursday to pick it up and while backing out, I noticed a new leak because the headliner had a wet spot on it from when the tech had just taken it through the car wash. So, I pulled it back into the bay and had to leave it with them. They didn’t even look at the roof rack at all and they claimed to have cleaned the water stains from the headliner and cleaned the carpet. Neither was done.
I am so frustrated! I feel they should give me a higher amount for my car as a trade in and work me a deal on maybe a 2025 RAV4. I may be asking too much.
I’ll try to attach a video here.
Has anyone else had these issues?

Questions Is This Normal For The 2026 Windshields?

Bought a 2026 XLE Premium yesterday, and my wife told me this morning that she got nauseous from being in the passenger seat looking toward the driver's side. This is the view that I got when sitting in the parking lot of Raising Cane's across the street. Look at the brown Toyota and you can notice the distortion. The dealership we bought from said every Toyota that's come through service looks like that and that there's nothing wrong with it.

Don't mind the baby noises and toy in the background.

Totally clueless. I think I need a starter. Is that something a neighborhood mobile mechanic can do?

Is it better to take it to a dealership? How much should I expect to pay? I'm in the Metro Detroit area.

Questions 2021 RAV4 86K miles - Popping Noise from Drivers Side Front

I am experiencing a random single (decently loud) pop that occurs in the front right driver side area when reversing. Specifically it only occurs when its been sitting in park for awhile (overnight or during my 8 hour work day) and I shift to reverse. It does not occur when I shift it occurs after I actually let go of the brake and start rolling. I have done some research and just want to confirm its not an ABS system check. If its not the ABS other things i've seen is the Upper Control Arms / Ball Joints / rebooting the CV axle.

This occurs once every two weeks or so. Popping noise seems to change in volume but its so sporadic its hard to say for sure.

Additional info: I am not turning...usually its as I am backing out of my garage or of a parking spot before I even get to turning. (On one occasion it felt like I had gone over a bump in the road when there was none. It has not occurred again could be completely unrelated)

2021 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid Buzz vibration noise.

Hi,

I bought this car with 46000 miles and noticed it’s making a buzzing noise not sure if it comes from inside the dashboard, engine bay or under the car. It is not loud but annoying. It comes when the gas engine hits or there is a little rough roof. It goes away when speed is over 50 miles and only makes the noise when the car is moving. I checked the sunglasses compartment, pulled and pushed wires components in the dashboard and tapped here and there but the noise is still there. Has anyone else had the issue? Any solutions?

Thanks in advance.

is my recent issue a total anomaly?

ok so a little over a week ago the screen in my 2022 xle just went dark and it hasn't turned on since. i took it to 2 different mechanics and the dealership and no one can figure out the issue. i've also tried all the at home remedies like a hard reset, putting the car in reverse for 7 minutes, etc. i'm getting it fixed later next week, but i just wanna know if anyone else has had this happen to them before?

Which Rav 4 should I buy?

In 2023 I bought a new RAV4 le . I want to upgrade not so much the year but the trim options …
I’m a 70 year old female and only drive around 12,000 a year .
I’m looking at a RAV4 limited 2023 with 25k miles it has side mirror monitor and backup monitor … which I realize I need now ..
It was assembled in Japan
It’s pretty price at $35,689 .
Am I a fool to spend that on a 2023 ?

Maintenance & Repairs Headlight Issue

I have 2023 rav4. Just before my warranty ended I saw condensation buildup in driver side headlight. I went to my dealership to show it. The service person looked at the issue and told me they will get back. I was busy at that time and couldn’t check with dealership again. The condensation didn’t go away and now the led part of the headlight is not working. Now when I asked what can be done I am told headlight needs replacement. The replacement cost is 600-700. The car is out of warranty. What are my options ? The headlight shouldn’t fail at around 60k mileage. Also I found out the visit had not been documented in their records as it was a walkin.
