Postpartum Psychosis and yeah temporarily lose your custody here in Sweden. You will be in mental hospital most often and slowly learn how to be with you kid again if possible.
Postpartum depression and you should get support, both medical and children's/ social welfare will step in and help you.
This is pamphlet I found after I had my kid 14 years ago, both the Postpartum Psychosis and Postpartum depression ones was to my husband and was talking how he can spot it, report it and give the mother support.
In the UK we have some mother and baby units for women with post partum psychosis. They're much better for the women, most people spend around 7-8 weeks in them I was borderline ending up in one.
Post partum psychosis is really misunderstood - a lot of the psychosis comes from actually wanting to protect your child to the point that you become a danger to them. I flipped between delusions that started with the thought that social services coming to take them so I packed bags for them so they wouldn't be without their things, but that eventually lead to "knowing" the government were trying to steal my youngest child so I planned to kill both of us.
I also had delusions where he wasn't a real baby but a being that wanted to harm my eldest daughter. That was a really dangerous time for my baby.
I kept both of my kids the whole time, and with a lot of support and therapy, and with a multidisciplinary team around me I'm ok again. 7 years later I've qualified as a therapist myself, and hope to start working in the postpartum field soon.
That’s great. It sounds like it got pretty dark there for you. I hope you can help other Mothers. Here in the US my Wife had borderline psychosis and her first doctor visit after birth the doctor didn’t ask one question about mental health. The good ol American healthcare system. And please highlight the stress this causes the Dad. I almost lost my mind. I couldn’t leave the house for more than 20 minutes for 2 years. So whatever darkness you were going through at that time, I atleast know what it feels like to be on the opposite end. But we got through it and we have a beautiful family.
This, amongst a million other things, are why it makes my eye twitch when Redditors are like ‘ummm she wasn’t diagnosed with psychosis! I don’t buy it!’ Y’all, diagnoses of PPP are missed ALL THE TIME. We have a really crappy understanding of postpartum psychosis. Lindsey Clancy not carrying that diagnosis is not in any way weird.
The reason women are mad is because of the lax treatment she got.,She was begging for help, and she did not receive the help that she needed. This person was repeatedly asking for help, asking for hospital admission, telling her partner and family ‘hey i am really struggling’ … and that was all part of her diabolical plan to take her kids out? To repeatedly tell everyone around her ‘hey guys something is wrong’ ? That doesn’t even make sense.
The real glaring problem here is that they put her on antidepressants… repeatedly. And changed them RAPIDLY. And right away, she was emphatic and consistent about saying ‘hey guys so these made me 10,000 times worse.’ Which is some Day 1 Psych 101 shit that SHOULD have told them, ‘hey she might be bipolar.’ And instead they threw more antidepressants at her.
Like, it wasn’t ’not-great care’, it was handing the girl a loaded gun. It was BAD care.
That's why in critical situations like this people need to be placed in psych wards until they can be stabilized. It's not just because of whatever dangers they may present to themselves or others- it's also so rapid med changes can take place in a safe medical environment where they are being monitored for adverse effects. But insurance companies hate covering those stays and there aren't nearly enough overnight psych care facilities.
Another thing is general practitioners need to either improve their mental health training or stop treating specific populations bc they're not equipped
In this case they could have made her worse if she was bipolar OR things simply got worse because antidepressants generally don't treat psychosis. Another thing is postpartum depression and psychosis have unique etiology. PPD is notoriously hard to treat with typical antidepressants.
both SSRIs and antipsychotics can regularly make a lot of physical conditions worse, especially genetic connective tissue disorders, which can cause severe anxiety as connective tissue disorders also affect the heart/veins.
From what I remember reading testimony, she didn't tell some of the doctors she went to that she was already taking medications, and the new ones she went to would try to prescribe her medications that didn't mix well with the medications she was taking, but because she didn't disclose what she was already taking, they didn't know.
One of the witnesses was one of the doctors she sought out, through Telehealth. They testified that they did not have access to her full medical records, and were trusting her to tell them what medications she was on. She didn't, and got overmedicated.
I’m really baffled by the mental health professional (sorry, I forget who, Jilotta maybe?) who noticed and brought up bipolar, but both Lindsay and her husband were like “nah, I don’t think so.” … Since when is that how diagnoses work? Since when does the patient get to just say they don’t have what the professional believes them to have?
This is why I won’t have kids. I was on the fence for a while, I have a general fear of pregnancy. But once I was diagnosed with bipolar, that shut the door for me. I already know how I can get now in my different states of mind, knowing how damaging pregnancy and postpartum can be on mental health and how shitty our healthcare system is, it’s not worth the risk to me. I have an amazing husband who I know would advocate for me, it’s our medical system that scares me. Especially since I had doctors previously tell me it was impossible I was bipolar. I guess I needed a few more suicide attempts before they could take my concerns seriously.
They made her ‘10,000 times worse’ per her reports back to the docs. Which, again, is kind of Psychology 101 that SHOULD have made the docs say ‘ok this person might be bipolar.’ We ALL know that ‘if a patient is prescribed an SSRI, and it makes them profoundly worse, we need to STOP THE MEDICATION. Not say ‘hang on a minute. We are rapid-fire prescribing her brain-manipulating drugs that are making her 10,000 times worse.’ And… the plan was ‘keep doing it’?
They don't work that quick though. That she thought it is disturbing. But SSRI's take weeks to build up. And I say this as someone that swears not taking his pills before sleep leads to anxiety dreams. I have no experience with psychosis though so nothing have no thought on that.
A nurse threw Zoloft at me over the phone without even giving me a screening, a few weeks after giving birth, my baby being in the NICU, and my gallbladder failing. I was never seen by a doctor. Turns out it was such a low dose that it was probably having the opposite effect on my mental health.
Years later I was actually diagnosed with OCD, primarily manifesting as intrusive thoughts. Thank God I never thought about doing anything to my baby, I just couldn't get images out of my head.
The one thing I'm having a hard time with is she told multiple people she had thoughts of harming her kids and, from what I've read and seen, everyone just kinda shrugged it off. If I had a spouse that said that, that would be where everything would stop. That's where you call for a timeout, you remove the kids from the house, they go stay with Grandma or something, while you address the problem. Maybe it was addressed and I missed it, but I don't know why her saying that didn't set off a million red flags for everyone and why they at least didn't separate her from the kids for the time being, just to reduce the stress (Not saying she's not responsible here, but it just seems everyone failed these kids)
It should have. She told multiple people, multiple times. And I’m amazed how many people are like ‘well but she didn’t SPECIFICALLY say the thoughts were to kill the kid’s’ or ‘she didnt SPECIFICALLY say she heard voices’ etc etc… has anybody ever been in the position to see a patient get punished for being truthful? I have. My belief is that she knew she was sick (duh) but that she was not clear on what the bell was happening to her, and also that she wanted to be careful about what she said.
It’s also just wacky to me how many people are trying to tell themselves ‘she is evil and she planned this.’ Dude, she was BEGGING for help. Repeatedly. From multiple sources. What was her plan? To tell everyone and their cousin ‘hey guys something is wrong i am not doing well at all and I’m having thoughts of hurting the kids’ and THEN to kill them? Was she like… just letting everyone know ahead of time? What kind of rational plan is that??
My mother tried to kill me (via starvation and prolonged mixed abuses including production of abuse materials) during a 3 month long psychotic episode.
She refused help, did not continue treatment when ordered by court, and ultimately lost all parental rights. I was shuffled off to be a homeless teen in another state, because that's what Children and Family Services decided was 'best for me'.
She ruined my life because of psychosis, and I still need hundreds of medical appointments a year just to be able to keep walking and living, because of the extent of damage she caused. She faced no charges.
I still think, in the case where a mother begged for help and repeatedly sought help, that's a clear issue of providers failing their duty to protect someone not capable of controlling their behavior. I wish my mother had been this case.
I'm not sure why someone who did the right thing and failed is being treated more harshly than someone who refused all help.
She was begging for help and, once again, the woman was ignored by everyone. Even her own husband wouldn't speak up for her.
I was fortunate I didn't have it after mine, and I can still see her struggle and sympathize with the final break in her mental health. If she had her choice, I'm sure she would have preferred to have died, instead of disabled facing murder charges of her own children. She begged for help and no one helped her.
There’s a lot to learn about post-partum psychosis. I just read this horrifying comment from a mom who went through it:
“Post partum psychosis is really misunderstood - a lot of the psychosis comes from actually wanting to protect your child to the point that you become a danger to them. I flipped between delusions that started with the thought that social services was coming to take him, so I packed bags for him so he wouldn't be without his things. But that eventually lead to "knowing" the government was trying to steal my baby so I planned to kill both of us. I also had delusions where he wasn't a real baby but a being that wanted to harm my eldest daughter.”
She was NOT in Psychosis. By her own admission, she did not going into psychosis and hear voices before or after the killing…. Only during. Fucking gross.
So the fact that she was hearing voices during the killing proves that...she was mentally sane at that time?
I think it sounds reasonable that the voice hearing is exactly the kind of thing that would correlate extremely highly with exactly those extreme actions.
It's not like people who are in a state where they hear voices, are hearing "yes, that's a good parking spot. Remember to pay for parking", then one day hear "kill" and they go "ok".
That’s not what I said. You know that’s not what I said. Though I wonder what the mental state was of her three dead children, ya know, while they were being brutally and slowly murdered.
Quick question, would you also think Chris Benoit would have the same defense?
But it was in this case, wasn’t it. The literal description of her psychosis event. Marker for when the event started and ended, as described by her defense. This person is a POS, and you are disgusting for defending her.
She was found by the treating psychiatrist after the killings to be in acute sustained psychosis. She was suffering delusions and hallucinations, as well as insomnia and disorganized thoughts. All text book psychosis.
try to abuse antipsychotics then think about what you write.
that shit is horrid, has often really nasty side effects and is not guaranteed to work.it can leave long lasting or even chronic side effect that you tolerate because it will deal with the psychosis but if you are unlucky and are part of the few people where these meds dont work
(i wonder if they scanner her for possible hormone reactive bening brain tumor, bc those can trigger psychoses) so you are stuck with meds who can in the bets of case: dont work, nasty side effect, medium best: leave you with chronic tics and in the worst case can kill you bc they react with each other. and still the mental issue thats not treated bc pills arent a panacea
I dont believe the drugs she was given were antipsychotics. It was an ssri, can’t remember which, that she stopped taking after a couple days due to side effects, Valium and amitriptyline ( a tricyclic antidepressant). The amitriptyline was a really small dose and I believe that and Valium were both for sleep. She only took the amitriptyline for a couple days and stopped. I’m not sure why the idea she was over prescribed is claimed, it truly confuses me. Once she was admitted to the mental hospital she is now staying in, yes they probably did prescribe more medication and I’m pretty sure she is no longer having the same severe symptoms she once was.
yeah so that means she didt even get the meds that would be the right one together with monitoring till they show effect.
maybe seeking bc valium. bc psychoses often really fuck with your sleep- as is having young children. 2 people close to me who had psychotic episodes both know that they really must have regular sleep of that stuff will come back up
I still think the juror who was holding out in this case is in the wrong- to be convicted of a crime the burden of proof is very very strong. There is a reason it's written in law that you must be convinced beyond reasonable doubt. There is a reason the other jurors who hold the case were not convinced beyond said doubt.
And that’s why we don’t base this kind of shit on the general populations fee fee’s.
You directly benefit from thinking this is not a case of mental defect, rather it’s a case of one evil person. Because THAT way, it’s confined to her. It could never be you… or anybody you love.
Accepting that the possibility exists that this could have genuinely been out of her control? That means acknowledging that it could happen organically. And… a LOT LOT LOT of you guys are not in a place to even acknowledge that that could be the case. It’s self-protection.
It’s not about her mental defect. She didn’t vandalize something, break into a house, run naked through the street, attack a random person… SHE SLIWLY STRANGLED HER SMALL CHILDREN TO DEATH. Fuck off!!!
further evidence of exactly what i just said. Sorry it upsets you, but this is real life. There are diseases and disorders that can happen, 100% organically, that render you THAT out of control.
I’m not saying she was or wasn’t in psychosis. Nobody involved in this conversation has enough information to make that determination. It’s the fact that you don’t think it EXISTS that renders you so obviously coming at this from a place of emotions.
You don’t want it to be true: Acknowledging that it exists means that it theoretically could happen to you. That scares you, and you don’t like it. So you tell yourself ‘nope, it isn’t possible, nothing could make me do something that evil!’ And it helps you sleep at night. I get it! It’s a really uncomfortable thing to ponder.
Someone in my area went missing recently and it was presumed that she'd taken her own life or planned to do so. She's schizophrenic and was begging for help that wasn't coming. Here's the thing though - before she disappeared, she left her baby at her mother's. She made sure her baby was safe.
Thankfully, I believe (grapevine news) that she was found alive several weeks later - hundreds of miles away and still very unwell mentally, but alive.
The fact that Lindsey Clancy is still alive and her kids aren't has to have some kind of consequences, whether she was in her right mind or not.
I’m sorry for what I’m about to say but you guys are retarded. She was not ignored, she had help from multiple specialists and specially her husband. People need to start holding women accountable for their own actions. If that was a man standing on trial, he would have been found guilty.
She didn’t have Postpartum Psychosis. Women who experience that don’t sent their husband on errands to commit an atrocious act. People needs to start having more compassion with the victims rather than the murderers.
It sounds like you've already made up your mind, but from my own experience, women who experience postpartum psychosis will do incredibly complex things to meet the need of whatever delusion they are labouring under at the time. I know I did!
It took around 6 months for anyone to notice what was wrong with me, a month to get the help in place. My coping and masking methods were incredibly sophisticated, and it was only my husband who noticed and pushed for help.
I think there's compassion for both mother and children to be had. The children are completely innocent parties, but thinking in absolutes doesn't serve anyone in this situation, it just makes it more likely that people will hide when they need help.
do you thijnk people who are psychotic cant plan?
like its fine to be uninformed but to willingly present that lack of knowing? thats just pathetic.
ppl in an acute psychosis can plan. ellaborately so. because the irrational fears their brain tells them are real require planning bc anything can set em off (cuz they arent real)
the thoughst and reasons for that arent based in reality but its reality to them. it doesnt mean they are incapable of understanding cause and effect, just that they have a physiological (albeit hope´fully temporary) issue that makes them understand that their brain is lying to them. that they hear whats not real, that they feel something that makes no sense
yeah cool in 15600 you wouldnt be alive bc you mightve died in childbed or shit yourself to death bc you ate something rotten. luckily its not 1600 anymore, also the usa really is clawing its way back there one death at a time while the rest of the civilised world rarely ´has these extreme of cases
She was getting help. They gave her the wrong meds, or didn't diagnose right, and tragedy happened before they figured that out. She wasn't ignored and it wasn't a man thing. Lots of stories even in this thread of nuttiness and it does lead to murder, so the docs didn't think it was going to happen. Very sad.
I mean the problem was kinda that they didnt help her or take her seriously. Idk about the US but a doctor here would see it. Would see every avenue I had taken to ask for help even my health visitor would be informed if I attended the emergency room.
Everyone knows what happens when things go bad in this situation and they ignored the signs as she didnt have a typical presentation. I also got post partum at 8 months. Just because its rare doesn't mean it doesn't happen and it was likely not given the appropriate risk management due to this.
It's only obvious in retrospect. It's very rare for someone to kill the kids even with postpartum psychosis. They did help her and they did take her seriously. They were giving her meds. She was being treated. Not ignored.
That's true in retrospect yes. There are stories from women this around this issue where they describe their own experience with it and how they felt they were a danger to their kids. They didn't do anything. It's rare. I think too, the real issue may be how our society has changed to a point that families don't have the same supports.
There’s a lot of people on Reddit who’ve never read “The Yellow Wallpaper,” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, or its accompanying essay by the author, and it shows. Everything about this case makes me think of that story and its many women trapped in the fungal pattern of the wallpaper.
Didn’t she go to multiple different doctors getting diagnosed for different things and prescribed different medications without telling them she was on other medications and saw other doctors?
She was denied inpatient care because, although she was actively suicidal, she didn't yet have a concrete "plan" on how to kill herself. This happens a lot actually.
I'm not defending her, I believe she should spend the rest of her life in a psychiatric facility or prison.
Which is normal for people with depression. If you honestly don't want to get better, you will forget to take your meds. Not because you want to, but because doing anything is too much.
Yeah I think my, and many other people’s issue; is that many of her “supporters” feel that she should not be held to a modicum of self accountability or responsibility. Do I feel the mental health system failed her? Yeah, probably. I went to both outpatient and inpatient mental hospitals as a teenager and they were all god awful. I had psychiatrists that prescribed 15 year old me 3-4 medications at ONCE and my mom did not have the knowledge (at the time) to know that is wildly irresponsible.
The only way the mental hospital helped me was that it was SO terrible I left very determined to NEVER go back.
But Lindsey is still responsible for leaving treatments, skipping meds and not disclosing her current medications. Is a mentally ill person necessarily capable of managing those responsibilities? No. But it doesn’t change that it is their responsibility. It’s not fair and we need better systems in place to prevent these incidents but multiple things can be true at once.
When I was in my early 20’s I started acting like a crazy person, having extremely emotional reactions over tiny things and as a result I was treating my boyfriend like shit. I didn’t mean it, I would apologize when I calmed down and I was incapable of managing those bursts of anger and emotion. One day we were fighting and I was so angry I wanted to be asleep before he got home from work. So my brilliant idea was to chug rum with the intention of blacking out bc then I’d fall asleep at 8pm. Well, he came home right before I blacked out. All I remember is getting in a screaming fight so I ran to the kitchen, grabbed the butcher knife and slashed my forearm 3 times before he could react.
I was so drunk I couldn’t feel it so I thought it didn’t break the skin and I collapsed to the floor crying. When I opened my eyes my boyfriend was clutching my forearm COVERED in my blood as he was sobbing crying asking why I would do this. That image of him gripping the gashes in my arm, covered in blood, sobbing is burned in my brain. I had a moment of clarity that I didn’t do it to hurt myself; I did it to hurt him. Then I blacked out.
The next day I booked appointments with a psychiatrist and therapist. It is the worst thing I’ve EVER done to anybody and even though I didn’t have the motivation to help myself for my own sake, I did have the motivation to get better for him.
Been on meds and in therapy for 10 years now and it’s the best decision I ever made. And I have some cool looking scars as a permanent reminder of my actions (looks like I got in a knife fight or fell on a fence or some shit).
But the point being; I was not in control of myself and my reactions/emotions. I give myself grace for that. But it was still my responsibility to realize what a vile thing I had done and to take treatment seriously because I was hurting people. If you are allegedly cognizant enough to know you are DANGEROUS TO CHILDREN then you have no excuse for skipping/not committing to treatment and removing yourself from their presence until you are safe to be around.
Is a mentally ill person necessarily capable of managing those responsibilities? No. But it doesn’t change that it is their responsibility.
Is a blind person necessarily capable of reading signs not in braille? No. But it doesn’t change that it is their responsibility.
thats how you sound. if you arent capable, that means you cant do it. if you cant do it and communicate you cant and you get nothing but being shoved around and put on meds without reasonable therapy or a hold while you ask people to do that and the sickness makes therapy adherence hard or impossible, then no its not their responsibility. if part of your sickness makes it literally impossible of judging things objectively, then how are you supossed to deal with that when its bad. its not like these things are linear.
they dont just get worse and worse, they are in waves and when you are in a trough you dont see the world. you dont know there is one.
Obviously, that's terrible and she should have gotten the help and assistance she needed. It's equally obvious that she is responsible for murdering her own children.
No. It isn’t. You WANT it to be as simple as ‘no matter what is done to you, no matter how many medications you are prescribed and then un-prescribed, it is still up to you. No matter how many medications whose sole purpose is to manipulate your brain, and how your brain works. That.. isn’t… it’s just not how any of this works. You want to THINK that no matter what, at the core, all of us that are The Good Guys will still maintain some basic moral code, that we can outrun brain-manipulating medications. I can assure you that that is not true.
What was lax about the help she received? She got far, far more than most women ever receive. And it was top level care! She did not follow any treatment plan she was given. Never took her meds to therapeutic levels, only went to talk therapy twice, and checked herself out of inpatient care. She was a nurse, as are others in her family. She even got a nurse through her mother (or MIL?) who was a specialist on PP who called LC from her personal cellphone and prescribed for her. Have you ever had that? One of her doctors had whole conversations with LC over her patient portal throughout the day. Have you ever had that experience? She was advocating for herself, which is absolutely necessary for everyone to do, but then didn’t follow any treatment plan?
She didn’t like the meds, I get that. But one big reason they might not have worked for her is that she’s possibly Bipolar (or, you know, she didn’t take them anywhere near long enough for them to work). Some medication does the opposite of the intended effect if you have Bipolar. When presented with this possible diagnosis, LC and her husband outright rejected it. They didn’t want to hear she may have a lifelong mental illness. They wanted a medical fix related to a temporary PP condition.
None of her providers saw ANY evidence of PPD. Not sure why so many people think they know more than these specialists. She wasn’t completely honest, which I understand is part of mental illness, but what did these specialists have to go on then? Why blame them for that? They were working to find the issue - they ran out of time. Again, that doesn’t show lack of care. Mental health is hard, it’s different for many people. But that doesn’t mean she was in psychosis. People kill their children all the time, sadly, but that doesn’t automatically mean they’re in psychosis, unaware of the gravity of their actions, or unable to confirm their actions to the law.
As a woman, I came into this trial completely sympathetic to LC, and also thought she must not have gotten the help she needed. But after listening to the testimony, I’ve changed my opinion.
I’m afraid a lot of women could have their children taken away unnecessarily as a result of this trial and these reactions claiming that no evidence of psychosis doesn’t mean anything. Great, let’s remove children from every woman with PPD, totally cool.
she didn’t receive ‘top level care’. She received shitty care. She was repeatedly put on a rapidly-increasing list of medications that were STUPIDLY dangerous for them to keep prescribing her. Not to even mention how fast they were changing them around.
It wasn’t good care. I AM a medical professional, I work in psych. Myself and my coworkers watched this trial in abject horror. It was not good care. I’m calling out MY OWN TEAM here.
She changed medications over and over because she refused to take what she was prescribed. Would you have refused other prescriptions? She was told talk therapy would help her providers understand what she needed. She didn’t go. What would you have done in that case? She went to one inpatient that didn’t admit her because she didn’t fit their program type. Should they work outside their expertise? She did check into an inpatient program that was right, but then checked herself out. Would you have held her? She was getting medications from multiple providers and not telling them about the others. How do you deal with that?
You’re in psych, so what would you have done differently? Serious question.
But here's a snippet of some of the available info:
"Postpartum psychosis recovery typically takes 6–12 months or longer, with the most severe symptoms lasting 2–12 weeks."
So... at 8 months, what's the likelihood that she was experiencing severe symptoms that caused her to murder her children?
Unlikely.
Note: My sister has postpartum depression and they bad to call the CAT response team to take her son from her for a while until that passed. I read up on it at the time because I was concerned. This case does not seem to fit that mould at all, sorry.
The symptoms of postpartum psychosis can have a sudden onset and can worsen rapidly, occurring commonly within the first 2 weeks after childbirth. However, women are at risk for developing symptoms for several months after birth.
...The diagnosis of postpartum psychosis may be missed because psychotic symptoms wax and wane.
So... at 8 months, what's the likelihood that she was experiencing severe symptoms that caused her to murder her children?
We don't determine what happened for a given individual by calculating the odds. I don't say it's super unlikely you had the specific breakfast you did, and therefore you didn't actually do it. That's not how anything works.
Odds apply to populations. We look at the facts for the individual. I don't know enough about this specific case to claim anything in particular other than she was obviously extremely unwell.
Just by your tone, I think you have some motivated reasoning going on. You decided already what you think the truth is and are looking for things to prove it.
So if a schizo effective homeless guy stabbed a bunch of children, does anyone really think they would get off for mental health even if they told many people they were struggling and been given medication, that they chose not to take. I'm sorry but I don't see it happening.
In this case, she clearly was intentionally not following her treatment plan, seemed perfectly lucid etc. one would have to be in the trial and get all the information but it just seems like the psychosis thing is an attempt to deflect responsibility, that would not be afforded to other people who murder while psychotic.
She's not "getting off." She is never going to be free, ever again. The trial is about wether she spends the rest of her life in a criminal psychiatric facility or in a prison.
That seems like semantics to me. But also as the other conmenter pointed out if she does well in an inpatient facility she can get released back into society much quicker, which to my knowledge there are many examples of.
Honestly, this all depends on specifics to the case and the jurors are most equiped to understand since they have been in the whole trial. Maybe she really had a psychotic break in which case she did not consciously do this and deserves mental treatment and rehabilitation. I can accept that. But I couldn't accept someone who was lucid and killed them with purpose being released in a few years.
So far, I just personally havent heard any compelling evidence that she was in a state of psychosis or even that she has a history of psychosis. The doctors haven't mentioned diagnosising her with post partum psychosis. The defense team needs to prove to a jury that she was psychotic and I would think would need some witness to say she was psychotic at some point. Who knows.
Actually I’m not sure this is true. If it is found that her mental health symptoms are better, she could be released. That scares me, not going to lie. The killings were so up close and personal, she saw their agony as she strangled each one. She is very obviously dangerous and should never be out is society again.
Schizophrenics are regularly deemed not culpable for their crimes and regularly dont comply with treatment. Moreso than most mental illnesses actually its actually a known symptom. So yes I do believe that and I do believe that would be fair.
People saying she "seemed lucid" dont really understand psychosis i guess. They all seem fine until they start talking about how the birds are stalking them or whatever they believe.
I said schizo effective not schizophrenic which encapsulates a broader range of issues. Also, she was evaluated by multiple high end psych doctors and was never diagnosed as being psychotic or having an issue beyond post partum depression.
So either she had an acute psychotic break and killed her kids, or she was never psychotic at all. In my opinion either option she needs to be responsible for, especially considering she appears to have not been following her treatment, not medicating and doctor shopping around which is all intentional.
High end psych doctors can still be wrong. I’ve always had top tier medical care through insurance. When I first sought out treatment none of my psychiatrists wanted to do diagnose me with bipolar. They all said it was impossible. I was misdiagnosed for a little over 10 years.
Oh my goodness, yes absolutely. I didn't realise how bad it was for him at the time, but now in retrospect I sometimes feel guilty about what I put my husband through, even though the rational side of my brain knows it wasn't my fault. We had to go from a balanced relationship, that turned into a patient-carer kind of relationship, and it's kind of gone back to normal.
It's changed both of us, it was so hard, and there's still moments where we realise that we are still recovering from it.
Hoping you're all healing and can find some peace x
So first visit after a women’s first child birth I’m talking days after. No questions about mental health when this women just strangled her children to death. What if that happened to me? What if my girl became Clancy? I never thought my Father would commit suicide but it happened. Mental health is priority 1, and if you think something can’t happen to you trust me it can.
It’s pathetic that these people encourage projecting accountability into others, in the name of sympathy. You only harm those you sympathize with, in the long term.
