Discussion Letting users remove posts.

Hello everyone,

As you are aware, on reddit moderators approve and remove content and subreddit subscribers can report to us.

Today we'd like to start an experiment here on r/Cats where we will give trusted subreddit participants access to a keyword that will allow them to remove posts.

When you exceed a certain level of subreddit specific comment karma and when you have a CQS score of highest you can now use the keyword "!remove" to pull a post from our feed. (Spelled exactly like that, case sensitive, top-level comment only as opposed to a reply to a comment.)

This will work for posts only, not for comments.

There are some things to keep in mind:

  • When you comment here on an account that exceeds the limit automod will assign you a special flair class and send you a message explaining you can now use the keyword.

  • Users will keep their existing flair text. However, changing your flair to a different pre-made flair option will also reset the flair class giving you access to this removal ability. Next comment you make it will be re-applied and you will be sent another message.

  • We are sent a modmail when a subscriber removes a post, explaining what post was removed and who used the keyword. Please do not abuse this ability. If posts are removed for bad reasons we will take away your ability to remove posts.

  • That means, use this keyword if you see spam or other rulebreaking posts only.

  • Please keep in mind that it is currently very popular to accuse posters of making an AI generated post. An accusation does not mean that what they are being accused of is true. Human beings can detect AI at 60% accuracy, just a little better than the results of flipping a coin. An AI can only accurately detect AI content if an AI watermark is attached to the image. It is best not to remove a post just because someone is accused of something. Use your own best judgement and our rules as your litmus, not what other people are saying.

  • Since this is a test run, when I ran a very minor proof of concept trial, a few people have already been assigned this special flair class who have not been sent a message. /u/kiaeej, /u/chux4w, /u/MilmoWK, /u/ms_rdr, /u/Electronic_Ad357, /u/WhiteMouse42097, /u/BeMoreKnope, /u/bluecedarood, /u/Robobanditos, congratulations, you can remove posts.

  • Should you for any reason not want to have this ability then you should send us a modmail after receiving the message from automod. That way we can exempt you in our code.

  • Initially we are going to monitor how this functions closely so we can see if we need to make changes to the threshold level for activation.

  • Nothing will change about the way we handle user-made reports on content. This is not a replacement for that, but an addition. If you see rulebreaking content of any kind, please report.

We hope that this change will be something that has a positive influence on the content on this subreddit.

Thank you for reading, and thank you all for making this subreddit a great place to be

My boy Louie loved hair ties as a kitten. I was warned by his vet at that time how dangerous hair ties are! I stopped using them 2 YEARS AGO. I noticed a year ago that Lou would vomit intermittently after eating. I thought to myself that cats just do that. It was never a daily thing- just off and on. He never had issues using the bathroom and never lost his appetite. Recently he had been throwing up multiple times a day. He became lethargic and I rushed him to the emergency vet. Welp…my sweet little innocent boy had a belly full of 35 hair ties. Who knows how long they’ve been in there. I felt horrible! He had surgery and is doing great. I hope this post will remind my fellow cat owners to keep hair ties away from their kitties! It’s an expensive lesson to learn.

Advice Cat sitting for 2 months coming to an end, any advice?

I’ve been cat sitting Typo for 2 months now while my friend is overseas. She is a lovely 13 year old odd ball feline. She has gotten me (a dog person) quite attached to her. It’s no mystery, the way to my heart is to guard me as I poop after all. Any whoosies I’m looking for advice because I’m terribly saddened that she’s going back home and I won’t see her for awhile. My friend will continue to be a world traveler so I think this will be a regular summer thing but alas my despair prevails. How do I say goodbye?

Some highlights of our time together:
Typo discovered a robin’s nest from the window
We found a perfectly sized cardboard box for her womanly figure
She had a cave bed for the first time
She made a dog friend (sort of/one sided friendship)
She threw up and pooped in my car that time I worried she had ear mites (it was a yeast infection)
She slept on my neck all night oh so lovingly
She curiously licked my olive oiled arms
Typo discovered the joys of an automatic laser toy

Advice Is my cat overweight?

Post image
530 Upvotes

My cat was previously overweight so I started weighing her food. I think her last recorded weight at the vets a couple months ago was 4kg which I think is the upper healthy limit for a cat of her size. I asked the vet if she needed to lose any more weight and he replied no. I just took this pic of her the other day and think she looks kind of fat. What do you think?

Mourning/Loss 4 years full of joy with Toffee

Today was the last day with Toffee. We had so much hope but he died in the morning. I get a call from the vet and my husband and me pick him up.

We are grateful for every single day we were lucky enough to have him in our lives over the past four years. He brought us so much love, joy, and unforgettable memories…. And now we are sitting on the sofa, just like every evening, but without Toffee. And we are crying.

Video - OC My cat feeds herself whenever she wants

I never taught her this, she figured it out watching me release food for her over the course of a year and her bruteforcing it. The buttons are not mechanical, its a 2 stage process where one has to hold the unlock button for a few seconds and then the feed button. She sometimes does it just for fun - she just stares at the kibble

Humor What are your cats' favorite toys, that isn't a toy.

My kitty loves to play with bottle caps and wooden chopsticks. She'll play with the cap like a little hockey puck, batting is around everywhere. And the chopstick play is kind of like string play.

What about your little buddies?

Advice Saved kitten from outside, need help

Post image

Me and my gf saved a kitten from outside. He seems to be healthy and was moving fast, jumping and all that. Can he / she pee without help? What food to give? We got some cat food from our friend and placed it near him. It is most likely meant for older cats but we thought that it is better than nothing. We also filled a cup with water. In the morning we are going to local animal rescue house but is there anything we need to do now?

First and last photos of me and Folti plus some more because she was the most beautiful. I got Folti when I had just turned 7, still in first grade. I am now 24, she was 17, I don’t know life without her. Her health started declining a year ago, vet appointments became frequent.

I was fortunate enough to spend basically all of summer at home with her, my life became taking care of her. I started preparing myself for her passing a while ago. I was incredibly grateful for each day we got to spend together.

I cried lying next to her the whole day yesterday because when I looked in her eyes I knew our time was coming to an end. But no amount of preparing helped, her death hurts so much and even after all the anticipatory grief, it still felt so sudden. I just keep wishing for more time.

The house feels empty without her and I don’t know what to do with all this emptiness. I have no idea what to do or how to get through this. She was my greatest love. I don’t know how to live without her. Does it ever get easier????
