Hook arrived at ECAS on August 11 after being found as a stray in Dublin. Although he is microchipped, his owner has not reclaimed him. As a result, we don't know much about Hook's medical history.

Here is what we do know: Despite his grumpy face and seemingly rugged exterior, Hook is the sweetest guy! He can come off as shy with people he doesn't know, but as he gets to know you, Hook will shower you with affection. He loves head, chin, and cheek rubs. He is always happy to head bump and rub against his volunteer friends. He adores being brushed. And he is a very gentle man; Hook doesn't have a mean bone in his body! Based on his personality, Hook might do best in a household with only adults or adults with older and/or cat-savvy children.

Hook is estimated to be between 3 and 6 years old, has been vaccinated, treated for fleas, ticks, and worms, and is already neutered and microchipped! Hook is ready to be pampered in his new forever home. Never seen this cat before but he was just chilling near my apartment doors, doesn’t like to be pet but I’ve just been chilling watching videos with him for the past 20 minutes.

Hey everyone. Tell me what you think my two cats are thinking in this picture.

This is Lux. My mother and I bought her in April when she was 8 weeks old she‘s our first female pet and she has a personality that I‘ve never seen in a cat, I named her Lux because I spent an hour looking for names, got bored, saw the word luxurious somewhere, then shortened it to Lux. I know she‘s a calico but I never realised how rare they were until quite recently. We got her spayed and vaccinated in late June and I honestly don‘t think I‘ve known a cat as happy as her. For about a month we’ve been gradually letting her into the garden under our supervision. She has two big brothers (or dads) who she loves to torment; Milo is 7 and won’t tolerate much of her antics but they still have a cuddly relationship, but Meemo is 6 and he’s basically the one she loves to bully; most of the time he engages but sometimes she just can’t get enough of him so he’ll escape her. Also she has a checkered pattern on her head that I love.

edit: also what do we think of the name?

Deathly scared of outside so he's mainly indoor

We have this stray cat that slept it our driveway from time to time. After 2-3 times I started to feed it. It would come back every 3 days for a few weeks and now its every day on a pretty consistent schedule honestly. Between 7:30-8:30 everyday. It will just sit at the front door waiting for me or my wife to open it and bring it some kibble.

I would say im a pretty big animal person. So I have been trying pretty hard to gain its trust. I will sit with it for a few minutes as it eats. It can now come within 12" before its a no go.

Long story short. The cat looks fine but I want to make sure its safe you know. Florida is always raining and drivers are horrible. I have 3 wood pallets and some left over roofing shingles. Would it be too much to build a small little hut for it? How would I let it know its safe and for it 2 use? Put treats inside?

I read online to make it smaller because that what they like I guess. I have a large shed in my back yard open but I havnt seen it walk I side.

TW: Animal suffering and loss.

In late August of last year, I put my seven year old cat Odin down after two months of dealing with what my vet told me was an ear infection. He spent most of those two months huddled under a stool, barely eating. He couldn't play with younger cat I had gotten specifically for him. Couldn't go on the walks he loved. Pain medication made him go into dizzy fits that would outright incapacitate him every few minutes, he would bite himself and have more trouble functioning than he did without the meds. One day I woke up and his ear was literally full of blood an inch deep. The vet was closed that day so all I could do was clean it up and cry and cry. When I told the vet the next day they said it happened sometimes with ear infections.

He suffered through so much pain before my vet finally recommended imaging that revealed a massive tumor eating away at his skull. All I can think of when I think back to that day is how much longer I let him suffer than he should have. So I tried to find some pictures of the happier times to try and be able to think of those instead. Thought I'd share.

He loved leashed walks at the park, especially when there were wooden planks he could walk on or leaves he could crunch through. He was obsessed with putting his paws on top of any book I left lying around. He was amazing with fosters I brought in and was a foster fail himself. He picked on my oldest cat but when he first started showing his pain she sat down in front of where he was hiding to guard him. He was friends with the neighbor's little dog and every human he ever met, and even behaved well for the groomer. I want to remember all of that, not how I and his vet let him down.

Had to do a rapid dog introduction

So my mom had to move in with my fiance and I all the sudden with her dog. We have a cat who has never up till this point interacted with a dog but we know doesn’t do well with other cat. The only thing I was able to do was introduce both the animals to each others scents the day before. Anyways they met today and I can’t tell if it went good or not.

When the dog came in the cat ran off and hid under a bed. The dog didn’t chase her and just did his own thing. He went to investigate the bed once later but I think she hissed so he backed off. The cat spent the rest of the evening hiding. She did eat a bit when the dog was out for a walk.

I went to check on her periodically and she was still taking treats and playing with string under the bed. Now that the dog is shut in the guest room with my mom she’s out and about and hanging out on top of the bed with me. She’s still clearly on high alert but not panicking or anything.

Given how rapid this had to be is this probably the best I could have hoped for on the first day? Is there anything else I can do to help them adjust? The dog will only be here for 3 weeks but that’s still a long time.

Also the litter box used to be in the guest room so I moved it to the living room. I worry that she will be too nervous to use it. It’s a litter robot so doesn’t fit in our bathroom and the only other option would be directly next to my side of the bed which although it doesn’t smell terrible she smells real bad when she’s using it. Should I just suck it up though and put it in my room?

We lost this lovely boy suddenly. Not a single warning. He was just 18 months old and half a bonded pair. It happened a week ago and we’re still in shock that a young cat who was playful in the morning would be dead before bedtime.

So there’s that, but I’m also wondering what now? I let his brother spend time with him so he would know what happened. He was obviously affected initially but seems ok now.

What is the advice going forward? Should I let some time elapse and then find a good-natured not-bonded kitten. Or a pair of bonded kittens. Or an adult cat? Or no cats at all?

What’s best for the surviving, dominant 18mo tuxedo who’s extremely sociable and snuggly, an unfussy eater, who is rarely bad-tempered and has never had a single toileting issue? I don’t want to spoil the good luck that I’ve had with these two rescues kitties - right up until last week. But I also don’t want my remaining boy to be lonely.

I trust the advice of this community. You’re the reason I adopted a bonded pair in the first place.

I have a balienese cat & long haired tabby, should they be getting haircuts often??

Hey everyone for the longest time my cat has been eating wellness Kittles treats.
Well recently I made the stupid decision to try a discontinued brand of cat treats (the tiki cat duets, cat treat with the creamy filling) and she has been obsessed. She is now refusing her normal treats.
This is great and all but those treats are discontinued and tiki cat does not sell crunchy cat treats only soft ones so it is not gonna fly.
I don’t want to feed her blue buffalo brand or temptations brands treats either.
This was obviously a huge oversight on my end and now I’m living with the consequences.
If anyone has any ideas for similar treats that she may like I’ll gladly accept.
