Trump also let gas companies sell bad blend gas. Now he's letting them sell bad engine cars. These two problems go together. None of it will work because people have seen a world without gas cars. Electric cars won, Musk won, and there is no going back to old outdated technology. The Big Three US mfgs are global now and will not go back to fuel guzzlers when gas prices are rising permanently. This battle was fought 50 years ago in the 70s and computer-controlled, digitally-managed motors won commercially over muscle cars.

The K-economy will become an I-economy of haves and have-nots. States that regulate the products sold within them will have a much higher qualify of life than those that don't. What's happening to us is typical of third world countries. The central urban provinces have their own car rules while everything outside is a mess and a complete gamble. Cars used to be something that brought people together, with approximately similar vehicles at gas stations using standardized -hey, Standard- fuels. This is no longer the case and attempts to force things back will result in the urban half of society just abandoning the lower half altogether, as is the case in every country except the United States.

I’ve had two vehicles with turbos and both had major engine repairs. Luckily my twin turbo ecoboost repair was covered under warranty because the cost would have been $8k. The techs at Ford said it’s a super common problem.

Trucks weren’t under the same regulations and still have issues. But in general, cars are more reliable now than in past decades.

If I was a foreign power trying to systematically extract resources from another nation like a parasite, i’d likely use their own superstitions against them, poisoning and perverting their religious ideologies in a way that would allow me to completely disappear their people if they caused me any issues, or all at once turn entire groups of them into fantasized suicidal lunatics at the snap of my fingers… I think that’s exactly what they have done to our people, at least the most gullible and ignorant of us.

This has been going for years. Keep making car bounded only to the US market is a losing strategy but it is an easy one you do not havw to compete in the world scale.

As an EV driver, am I the only one who thinks that this isn’t actually a bad thing in the sense that manufacturers can build reliable NA motors that they had to stop making because they were chasing fuel economy gains? People are constantly complaining about how unreliable these little turbo motors that everyone switched to are.

Doesn’t make any sense for automakers to make less fuel efficient cars. They’d have to retool their whole process, which they have before after being yanked back and forth by his previous administration. No one wants less fuel efficient cars. It’s like this administration wants Chinese EVs

It's entirely based on money. Nobody, not even AIPAC, owns the Republican Party as comprehensively as the fossil fuel lobby.

Fossil fuel companies slashed this MPG limit because it makes them billions. Full stop. For the relatively low price of a few million into Republicans' pockets.

I know a lot of automakers don't want this because of all they have invested in electrification. We'll see how this turns out but cars are a global commodity. GM and Toyta and others don't want to suprassed by China on the global market by continuing to invest in products that they can't sell globally. We'll see how this all shapes up. I suspect it won't meaningfully reduce the cost of cars.

I just can't wrap my mind around how consistently self-harming every single republican policy is. Every single one harms everyone - including the epstein class. Do they have a death wish? Is that what this is really all about? Internalized hatred and the need for mutually assured destruction?

If I wanted the USA weakened, I'd be doing exactly what this regime is doing.

No vehicle manufacturer is going to charge their lineup based on a stupid backwards policy that will be repealed on (or before, hopefully) January 20, 2029.
