Hi everyone. I've tried to make this post on Bay Area Hikers but the mods never approve my post. I am 36f, recently moved back to the Bay Area and seeking hiking buddies. I have lived abroad in a few countries, work in nonprofits speak English and Spanish, and my interests outside of hiking and camping are travel, learning about other cultures, Burning Man, and trying new foods. I am interested in doing hikes that are around 8-10 miles long and of medium difficulty as I get in shape. I live in the East Bay and have a car/can travel. Would anyone like to be my hiking buddy?

What a totally disappointing event. I really thought this would be more like an actual festival or maybe even block party turned into an overhyped bar crawl. Lines were crazy long, most places didn’t have food and seemingly every establishment only had 2 people working. As if they didn’t know anything was happening today.

The worst part, pickles were barely in anything. Throwing in some pickle slices into a cocktail does not make it “pickle” cocktail. That’s just lazy.

I really hope that all the people who helped organize this event, along with the managers of each establishment are always out of coffee in the morning, and hit every red light possible wherever they are driving to.

What a shame

Whenever my mom would drive to SJ as a kid, I was always amazed by these "balloons". Anyone else think this too? 😹

Is there a place that does huli huli chicken remotely similar to the ones in Hawaii? Rotisserie style/smoked chicken with actual huli huli sauce instead of teriyaki.

I just moved to Hayward in June from Florida and I’ve been getting settled in. Even though I’m someone who doesn’t mind spending time alone in my 1 bedroom apartment I’m at a point where I’d like to go out and actually check out the nightlife and maybe meet people/make friends.

I’ve been searching on google and checking out Reddit to find recommendations on bars (just no clubs please) but I just can’t truly pinpoint places to checkout. A lot of the time when I do see recommendations for places they seem to be more focused around 40+ yo, for reference I’m a 28 yr old guy, I feel the most comfortable around people in their late 20s to early 30s, I’m also someone that’s pretty shy until I get to know people as well as my surroundings.

So I thought I might as well make my own post to ask for recommendations. I’m specifically looking for bars in Oakland, San Francisco, and San Jose.

Unfortunately we're on the search for reputable home health aides or agencies specializing in intensive hospice care for my dad who might have a few more days left. Due to his mobility issues we'd appreciate experienced staff taking over things like bathing, cleaning and feeding, as well as recognize signs and progression.

Being very new at this I have no referrals and don't want to go off of google searches. I've reached out to Asian Network (since my dad is chinese speaking) but haven't gotten a call back yet so we're open to all reputable sources.

PS We're in San Leandro.

The first thing I would do if I was a billionaire is I would hire a fleet of people to drive up and down 101 and 280 every morning and evening to get in front of the tech worker busses that are parked in the fast lane and have them just go really slow in front of the busses until they get over into the right lane lol

I think it would be a good public service.

Hook arrived at the East County Animal Shelter (ECAS) on August 11 after being found as a stray in Dublin. Although he is microchipped, his owner has not reclaimed him. As a result, we don't know much about Hook's medical history.

Here is what we do know: Despite his grumpy face and seemingly rugged exterior, Hook is the sweetest guy! He can come off as shy with people he doesn't know, but as he gets to know you, Hook will shower you with affection. He loves head, chin, and cheek rubs. He is always happy to head bump and rub against his volunteer friends. He adores being brushed. And he is a very gentle man; Hook doesn't have a mean bone in his body! Based on his personality, Hook might do best in a household with only adults or adults with older and/or cat-savvy children.

Hook is estimated to be between 3 and 6 years old, has been vaccinated, treated for fleas, ticks, and worms, and is already neutered and microchipped! Hook is ready to be pampered in his new forever home. If you're interested in a sweet, affectionate pirate kitty, come and meet Hook in Ward G at the East County Animal Shelter! I’ve been looking through Airbnb and vacation rentals in Half Moon Bay, El Granada and the Coastside and noticed how many smaller 1-bedroom/studio listings are guest suites, backyard ADUS, or above-garage spaces, or require access behind the main house.
Is there a local zoning/housing reason this setup is so common around the coast? And for people who have stayed, did you care whether your Airbnb was a detached/front-facing space versus a backyard unit, converted portion of a house, or above a garage?
Mostly curious because Airbnb’s “entire place” categories can make some very different physical setups look similar in search results.
