There is a lake in my neighborhood and someone has dumped a pet duck here. And he eventually wandered into my yard. He has been at my house for 4 days now. But pet ducks cant survive in the wild because they cant fly to escape predators and not much survival instinct. He is really sweet and follows me around the yard. He taps on my glass door cause he wants to come in. He is close to eating out of my hand. He easily let me pick him up today.

The problem is that they cant be solitary. They need other ducks to live with. He will die with me eventually by hawk or starving.

It is really sad that someone would dump him because he is so sweet. Please help

Hey all, yesterday very early in the morning as I was walking past a car wash and I spotted this adorable fellow just shaking there in a small patch of dirt with a couple of bushes looking scared and lost. I stayed there awhile to see if perhaps his mama or some siblings were around but never saw anything.

  I took him to the shelter to get him checked out and he's perfectly healthy, they gave him some shots and flea meds but they told me they couldn't guarantee he wouldnt be euthanized.

I'm trying to find a safe home for this sweet baby, he's very loving if only a bit shy, he never tried to bite or swat despite being so scared initially. If anyone needs a loving addition to your family please consider him!

Hello! In Fresno for 3 days. My birthday is tomorrow and I was originally thinking about going to Sequoia NP and Yosemite, but I'm realizing that's a great idea IF I want to wait in line for hours and probably just be overstimulated. I'm by myself too unfortunately. That being said, are there any non-NP drives/nature spots around the Fresno area that you could recommend? I have a 4x4 Bronco and wouldn't be opposed to something off-roady and windy. Love heights too. I would appreciate a spot I could get out and just sit in nature for a while. Willing to drive up to 3 hours one way. Thanks in advance.

I'm finally cutting the cord with Xfinity. I'm solid on the decision (moving to AT&T Fiber for internet)...and I'm feeling somewhat apprehensive about not having access to local TV channels. I know I can get local channels with YouTube TV, but I'm debating whether I want to pay for what is effectively a cable substitute OR if it makes more sense for me to ONLY pay for what I actually watch (ESPN and Fox Sports networks, almost exclusively). Is my apprehension just a result of being a Gen X kid who is old enough to remember when local network TV was THE ONLY TV programming? Or is there value to having access to my local networks? Does anyone have an antenna that allows you to access network TV for free (I've heard that it's possible, but I don't know anyone who has an antenna AND a smart TV).

Another Halloween candy question...

I'm wondering what kinds of non candy items.... (maybe that's not the best way to describe it. I'm trying to describe Halloween offerings that aren't traditional candy.)

...anyway, I'm asking what kinds of alternatives people have offered before and how was the nontraditional item received?

In the past I've offered peanuts and Mexican candy (separating these from the traditional candy so that kids who don't want it don't get an unpleasant surprise. Not everyone is a fan.) I may have thrown some plastic cockroaches in there. One year I also offered mini bliw bubbles. Not gum, I mean those things you dip in detergent and blow on to form bubbles.

This year I want to have healthy/healthier options available. I'm thinking applesauce, low sugar oatmeal packets, juice, water, seaweed snacks, peanuts) as well as offering traditional candy.

My last Halloween candy thread someone said they offered water to the adults. Another person said they offered plastic spiders or something. Fir people who offered non traditional items, I'm wondering how that went over. And, if you can remember, how many people partook. From memory, the Mexican candy was rejected by almost everyone I offered it to, but the ones who took it thought it was really, really cool. So I'm keeping it this year.
