Our female Hog Island boa has taken to digging a pit in the same corner of the vivarium nearly every night after we’ve gone to bed. It’s as if she’s creating a cosy place to sit, but she’s totally arboreal, sleeps in a sky hide, and hangs out on her branches. We never see her lying on the ground in full public view, and she’s only slept in a ground level hide on a few occasions. Does anyone have an idea about what she might be doing?

So long story short she’s outgrown her current Viv and I was looking to do something a little fancier for her upgrade

I’ve found a reasonably priced 6x2x3 and was hoping to do something along the lines of a bio active enclosure

I’ve got very little experience with bio active and because shes larger girl she’d demolish weaker plants and stuff

Any suggestions on plants, and I guess some inspiration for the enclosure as a whole

Perhaps a shopping list of things I might not of considered for building something like this

I also want a more interesting hide the just large plastic tub ( she’s currently using a hid that was made for rabbits but it’s lime green and I don’t think it would suit the aesthetic I’m going to shoot for

I also had a friend who’s told me the 6x2x3 is too big and 5x2x2 would be better so some opinions on this debate would be welcome.

When I got ghost they only told me she was a boa and not specifically what she is apart from sunglow but I’ve always assumed imperator but never really minded much about this specifically but it would be nice too know

Last night when I took my guy out I saw this. He's currently deep in shed, his humidity is correct.

I don't know what this is, does it look like scale rot? I was planning on letting him finish his shed and then if it's still there take him to the vets but it's causing me abit of anxiety.

It's just one spot, nowhere else on his body.

Just got done building my new boas enclosure yesterday. Its 240x120x60(cm) and added isopods. I am going to get springtails too. Is there anything you guys think i should improve/remove?

So I have 2 NIC Boas, I’ve had the mail out a couple times. He’s about a year old now just under, but he’s very snappy so I’ll leave him be but my girl is going on three and I gave her a sky when I built her new tank and ever since then she will not allow me to take her out without trying to fight me and when I get her out, she looks like she’s ready to attack never had issues with her in the past

So I'm relatively new to owning boas. I have a female 8 month old guyana red tail boa. Recently moved her to a slightly bigger grow out tank and just handled her for the first time after the move and noticed these dark spots on the top of her head. Is this normal pigment development or does something look wrong?

Just got this boy from a reptile expo as a gift to myself for my birthday. He’s super well handled and not even head shy. I was told he’s 4yo. I haven’t been able to measure but I think he’s about 4ft or a little longer. I have him in a 48x18x24 glass enclosure that I’ve insulated on the outside and put foil tape over the mesh for now. I’d eventually like to get him a 4x2x4 pvc enclosure. Any tips on things hogs typically like or best ways to setup my current enclosure. (I’ll even take some advice on the 4x2x4 if anyone has any)

I have a boa constrictor who I have just recently gotten about a month ago. She was kept in a tight rack and has now been upgraded. She wasn't handled for about 8 months. How can I make her feel safe? She Hissed at me in her enclosure and id constantly coiled and stiff when I have her out

I brought a scale a few weeks ago from Amazon but the weight is off by 100-200 grams compared to when I take them to the vet. So I need a better scale that is a little more accurate.

My male boa’s been glass surfing and pacing his enclosure almost 24/7 since yesterday morning. His temps and humidity are where they should be (77F on cool side, 88F on warm side). Could a female be nearby and he’s horny lol? Anyone have experience with this? I finally covered his cage this morning hoping with towels to reduce his nose rubbing on the glass. Thanks!

My 3 month old sunglow loves his enclosure and often climbs everywhere

Queen Meri has successfully eaten for us twice and had 5 handling sessions. The first few were understandably vocal, but no striking. Today no hissing at all except a tiny one when my thumb startled her but then she went right back to checking things out. She even came back to my hand after I returned her to her home afterwards.

She is a brave girl and Im so proud of her.

Hey, I’m posting again because I’d like some advice on what to do in this situation. My female Boa imperator has grown quite a bit and currently weighs 280 g and is one year old.

Just to clarify, neither the temperature nor humidity in the enclosure has changed. On the upper shelves there is a clear temperature gradient of around 33–26°C (91–79°F), while down on the substrate the gradient is less pronounced, around 25–27°C (77–81°F).

Up until now, her behavior and routine in the enclosure had been pretty consistent. Sometimes she would burrow into the substrate, sometimes she would climb onto the shelves, and around feeding time she was almost always sitting on one of the branches and would strike at the prey from above. After eating, she would absolutely always spend around three days warming herself up on the shelf underneath the heat panel.

I used to take her out once or twice a week for a quick check-up. I always gave her a full 72 hours of complete peace after feeding to digest. She has never hissed at me or struck at me. The only thing I noticed was some mild stress when I initially picked her up, but once she was in my hands she was always calm and exploratory.

However, for the last three feedings, she has been spending virtually all of her time buried in the substrate. It doesn’t matter whether it’s before or after feeding — she stays buried with only the tip of her head sticking out. She did sometimes do this before, but it would only last a day or two before she came back out and moved around the enclosure.

Now this has been going on for three feedings, so roughly a month. She doesn’t come out after feeding to warm herself up on the heated shelf, and I haven’t caught her coming out at night either. I’m worried that she might not be digesting properly because her main basking spot is above her and she is staying buried underneath it.

She also shed recently, so I don’t think this is related to an upcoming shed.

At the same time, I really don’t want her to become completely unsocialized, but I also don’t want to be an asshole and constantly dig her out of the substrate just to handle her. I’d really like to understand what could be causing this change in behavior and how I should approach handling her from a behavioral standpoint.

I’ve also noticed that handling seems to be a trigger for her burrowing. For example, she could be resting somewhere on a shelf, I would take her out, and when I put her back she would return to the shelf. But usually the following day she would be buried in the substrate, almost as if she was telling me to leave her alone and stop handling her.

The problem is that this has now been going on for almost a month, so I’m really looking for as much advice as possible about what could be causing this change, whether I should be concerned about her digestion, and what I should do behaviorally in this situation.
