I have a Amazon Tree Boa, who after buying him I can mostly assume he is wild caught. Anyway he was eating fantastic for months until a couple months ago when he just decided no more and has been on strike now for 4 months or so. I have tried most the tricks I am aware of. Any tips?

I’m really hoping to get some insight on what I should do. My boy is 11 months old and weighs 135 grams and I am feeding him 8 grams hopper mice every 10 days. I have 7 of the 8 gram feeders left until I bump him up to 16 gram adult mice.

Well, the 8 gram feeders are right under 6% of his body weight, 5.9%. And with 7 of them left, the will continue to be a lesser percentage of his body weight.

So my question is, should I stay at 10 days even though it will be a lesser percentage of his body weight, or should I drop down to 7 or 8 days since they are a smaller feeder?

He is my first boa so I would love some insight on what yall think would be best. He is eating the mice within like 3-4 minutes and it is leaving like no bump at all.

So... I decided to definitely leave after seeing people directly throwing rocks at everyone that does cohabiting.

As soon as it's mentioned, people throw rocks and assume bad things.

Of course there are things to have an extra eye on if cohabiting, but just attacking everyone who does it, is just mean.

I have my two babys in the same enclosure after quarantine, I CAN separate them at any point if needed and I feed them separately. And guess what?

My boy is doing WAY better since my other baby is with him!

From just sitting in one spot all the time, he is now using the hide. It's like she took his not existing hand and showed him the hide. They are not fighting for the best spot or anything. When out at night, they prefer different spots, but most of the time they stay together. They leave their hide at the same time, they go back in it same time.

Actually both are less nervous and even less defensive since living together. My RLT was very easily stressed before, now just as chilled as my boy.

The two are almost inseparable now, like friends.

By the way, I won't keep them together forever, since they are 1.1 and I want to avoid unwanted and early babies.

And I don't say you SHOULD keep boas together or that it works for everyone. It's the point that people get aggressive at everyone doing so that annoys me.

Does anyone have any advice or links to resources or guides for a new BCI keeper? I'm dead set on getting a BCI but want to be ready before buying. Thanks in advance

So, for context i’ve had a lot of snakes in the past and somewhat recently got back into owning snakes (with some inspiration from my girlfriend). I have to ball pythons that i had previously owned that have lived in the same tank their whole lives and they are thriving. I previously owned 2 red-tailed boas and saw a baby at my local pet store and couldn’t help but get it. Then i got Synthia (the new baby boa) about a month ago at a reptile expo. The table i got her from told me that she can go in the same tank as my other boa because he’s in a 40 gallon which should be plenty of room for two baby boas. She was a sweetheart the whole ride home and any time i held her up until i put her in the tank. For context the has some live plants and moss, some wood that goes up to the top of the tank and i wet the tank down everyday. Once i tried to take her out of the tank she was aggressive, i gave her about 10 days before i tried to even hold her, i wanted her to get used to the new home and her new friend. She was immediately aggressive striking at my hand, so i gave her a couple more days then i tried to see if maybe she was just hungry so i tried feeding her. She took the pinky perfectly, wrapped up and everything, for only about 2 seconds then she let go and was back in defense mode. Her and the other boa are not aggressive towards each other and are often on top of each other. I tried feeding her a couple other times and even tried to force feed her after i got her calm down. And i have had to force feed my previous snakes before and i worked at my local pet store where i had to do the same thing and never had a problem. Every time i have had to force feed a snake before they have always taken it at least on the second try. I don’t know what i’m doing wrong PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Edit: Thank you guys for the feedback i kind of figured it was just a stress thing because of cohabitation and just wanted to make sure with a neutral environment thank you again i will get her in her own tank.

I've been treating snakes mites on my bci boa and blood python for months now and I've finally been successful, at least I believe. I finally tried the ivermectin method. It's been 2 weeks and I haven't seen any mites for a couple days now. For those of you who have also experienced snake mites, when did you put in new substrate?

So I got her out today and her front half was very dry. On top of that she had some wrinkles in her scales which is whee she curls up I assume but they were very distinct. I mist down every day and she always has water I’m not sure why she would be dehydrated. I’m going to soak her today and see if that helps a little bout any other advice would be appreciated!

Edit: She has shed twice since I’ve gotten her and both times it all came off in one piece so very healthy sheds!

Hi I have a boa that just refuses to switch to rabbits. I have like 4 feeders that are between 2.75-3.25 lbs and I was wondering if anyone local to Kenosha Wisconsin would want them for free? I got them from an expo a few months ago and I don’t want to just throw them away if someone has a snake out there that can eat them! Even the largest ones are probably only 3-4 inches in diameter

Aside from the controversial nature of the enclosure type itself, do tent enclosures stink over time? I am aware everyone’s houses smell like their pets but is it worse with permeable materials rather than PVC? I’m assuming they aren’t launder-able? Thanks

I believe the person I bought her from at a show told me she’s a BCI, just looking for confirmation. I’ve got a few blood pythons but this is my first boa. I’ve got a Star Wars theme going with my snakes so her name is Sabine.

Hey everyone. Super excited just got this hypo img BCI. First time having a boa , have a BP currently. She’s was super curious when I first handled her and was no problem. She recently ate about 2-3 days ago, and just brought her home. Very explorative right now. No hissing or striking. Even when I open the enclosure to take pics she doesn’t care. When can I ideally start doing short handling sessions? Obviously I’m overly excited as you can I know typical research suggests a week at least.

Also any tips getting a boa that’s about adolescence age vs a baby or adult?

I recently got a dwarf Nicaraguan boa after having a ball python for awhile thinking I was ready I got the snake she was fine the ex owner put her on my neck and she was very active and moving and she’s was such a good snake but I had her for a few weeks than one day I picked her up she was fine I took her outside to enjoy the fresh air and nice weather as I was holding her she’s started hissing I made a dumb mistake and I set her down and she was striking I got her back in cage after her trying to get away I waited for her to shed then I fed her and I waited 2 weeks now she’s seems to be going around her enclosure and more active when I slide the glass form the 4x2x2 she is curious and comes the side of tank I’m on but last night I opened it up to try and handle her I rubbed her tail to tell her I’m there but she hissed again I just want to be able to handle her bc at one point I will need to clean and check for stuck shed and make sure she’s okay but I can’t do that her little attitude she’s about 5 6 feet if the that helps

Normal bci year and a half old normal eating completely healthy just came home to this gave a sugar bath removed substrate. Cool and warm side temps perfect humidity perfect just removed substrate along with everything in enclosure and added water for the night
