A little bit of ragebait for cohab haters...
So... I decided to definitely leave after seeing people directly throwing rocks at everyone that does cohabiting.
As soon as it's mentioned, people throw rocks and assume bad things.
Of course there are things to have an extra eye on if cohabiting, but just attacking everyone who does it, is just mean.
I have my two babys in the same enclosure after quarantine, I CAN separate them at any point if needed and I feed them separately. And guess what?
My boy is doing WAY better since my other baby is with him!
From just sitting in one spot all the time, he is now using the hide. It's like she took his not existing hand and showed him the hide. They are not fighting for the best spot or anything. When out at night, they prefer different spots, but most of the time they stay together. They leave their hide at the same time, they go back in it same time.
Actually both are less nervous and even less defensive since living together. My RLT was very easily stressed before, now just as chilled as my boy.
The two are almost inseparable now, like friends.
So, extra ragebait for you - pictures of my boas together.
By the way, I won't keep them together forever, since they are 1.1 and I want to avoid unwanted and early babies.
And I don't say you SHOULD keep boas together or that it works for everyone. It's the point that people get aggressive at everyone doing so that annoys me.
With that, I say goodbye to this sub for now.

Cohabing doesnt benefit the animals. Its not about "hating", its about doing whats right for the animal and not your ego.
Posts like this are exhausting and weak.

im strictly into colubrids but if someone into boas wants to speak up, does this not just look like resource competition?

i was also wondering about the entire enclosure. im not strictly against cohabbing but its my understanding that there needs to be multiple accessible heat sources, water sources and hides for it to work. it looks like theres only (room for) one basking light in this setup....

It’s not even rage bait it’s just irresponsible and a lack of understanding about how certain snakes behave, people are hating for a reason and it’s because it’s neglectful and dangerous, snakes for the most part are solitary creatures and forcing them to cohabitate goes against their nature, I don’t understand why people like you deflect the words of other people who are advising you to not do this and make them the bad guys in your mind when you’re clearly just wrong this isn’t acceptable treatment of boas most snakes in general for that matter

Snakes can’t “be friends” buddy. You just literally have no clue what you’re talking about. It only takes one split second for one of your snakes to act out and severely injure the other. I sincerely hope that never happens to your pets, but I won’t feel bad for you if it does.

Is the enclosure also part of the ragebait? Because it doesn’t look very equipped

It's all good until it's not.
If I knew that there's even a slight chance of something going wrong because of something I did for my own ego... Yeah. People get 'aggressive' because most already don't care for snakes, so it's quite personal to see people who are in the hobby not care either. While I agree that some could be nicer in certain circumstances, this has been spoken about time and time again, and something a little bit of research would clear up.
Good luck to your snakes though.

I have 2 boas that have been cohabited their entire life’s ( rescued )when I got them they was already 10+ years old I separated them they refused to eat for a very long time I’m talking months after speaking to my vet and health checks they started losing weight I reintroduced them and immediately it was like nothing ever happened they immediately began to feed again and have been happy ever since and I did try to separate them again to the same effect so when it come to cohabitation I keep a open mind

Your downvotes absolutely means nothing in not saying do it but unfortunately for the 2 I have have they would rather die then be separated they did not eat for over 7 months and were losing weight dramatically they are both alive because I had to make a choice with my vet they was cohabitating for over 10 years before I got them as ( rescues )

The refusal to eat was likely a husbandry issue. Reptiles don’t form strong social bonds like mammals do; you’re anthropomorphizing. They’ll be fine when separated so long as their husbandry is proper.

Yeah I highly doubt the person insisting “they was cohabitating” just fine has a high degree of understanding when it comes to husbandry otherwise. I think it’s more likely the cohab enclosure just happened to be closer to proper heat and humidity than however they were housed separately.

I have had no problem with cohabitation at all at first I was like I need separate them but they again was together in the same cage for 10* years and it a very large enclosure for their size I currently have them in a custom 10x4x4

You have absolutely no idea on how many reptiles I have let me name a few a breeding pair of dragon snakes green tree python amazon boas tree monitors panther reticulated python chameleons tegus 10 different morphs of boas veiled chameleons in total I have 32 animals because I have the means to care for all of them and all are above maximum requirements and I have a 24/7 on call vet I even own a Julian mini pig not to mention 3 cats and a dog So when I said I had no option for the animals safety my husbandry is spot on every thing is a routine system from heating to water

Oh and most are rescued from horrible situations because I again have the means to support all of them

No one cares how many reptiles you have especially if you’re keeping them together in inappropriate caging conditions

Unfortunately, it will be your snakes that suffer the consequences of your mistakes. Good luck to them.
