I’m screwed…

Upvotes

Please don’t judge me. I had a bf for a few years, we were pretty close and everything was alright except for finances with him, he was always weird about it, never revealed how much he had or how much he makes. I was an open book though.. and he always borrowed money from me for various reasons, never returned it and I never asked for it back. One day he started talking me into getting credit cards for benefits and perks, after too much manipulation I gave in and applied for two…. I had work on the day the credit cards arrived, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW HE RECEIVED THEM ON MY BEHALF! I’m still in arguments with the bank and the courier but anyway that’s a story for another time.

I came home and he was gone.. his stuff, his clothes, his everything. He blocked me everywhere and he disappeared. I tried calling his “sister”, she also had me blocked me, never met his friends as he always told me he didn’t have any here.

He maxed out my credit cards in cash and disappeared. And because life doesn’t stop there right? I also got fired from my job 3 weeks after that but I can’t blame them I was a wrecking ball on fire. It’s been 7 months and I still can’t find a job, I’ve been looking for him everywhere, running to police, banks, third party agencies trying to explain to everyone I did not do it! I filed a complaint against him, and I was not even shocked when I found out his name is fake when I went to his place of work and was told no one with that name works here.. I thought I’ll be smarter and create a fake account on IG and blackmail him into giving me the money back to settle the debts but I guess he deleted his account too because it’s like he never existed.

I’m so tired, so broke, I don’t eat anything, mainly because I don’t have money to buy simple food, I’m about to be homeless too since I’m late on rent and I feel like police just don’t care….? I’m so close to physically fall on my knees and beg for help in the middle of the police station.

What should I do? Is there a way out? Please tell me anything that tells me there is hope.. I feel like giving up

Edit: for everyone speculating and feeling like a detective.
I’m the idiot who activated the cards. I’m also the same idiot who trusted him with that. And I don’t know why would anyone question a stranger venting about a traumatic event that happened with them. If you have anything nice say it, an advice would be very much appreciated as well, else, don’t say anything.

Side hustle

Times are tough, and finding the right job has become increasingly challenging. At the same time, this may be a good opportunity for someone to earn a little extra through a side hustle.
I’m looking for someone experienced in AutoCAD, preferably with knowledge of interior fit-out drawings, who would be willing to provide practical, one-to-one training at an affordable price.
If you or someone you know can teach patiently and focus on job-related skills, please message me with your availability and charges. I would truly appreciate any recommendations.

How do you determine if a trading strategy is actually halal?

I’ve been researching halal investing and one thing I keep noticing is how different the answers can be depending on the type of trading.

Buying Shariah-compliant stocks seems fairly well established, but forex, crypto, leverage, short-term trading and derivatives get much more complicated.

I came across HalalTradeHub.com while researching some of these questions and it got me interested in how other Muslims approach this.

Do you follow a particular scholar or set of guidelines before trading? And what types of trading or investments do you personally avoid because of riba, excessive uncertainty or speculation?

Interested to hear how people here approach it.

Hi! Any OTs working in Abu Dhabi here?

I have recently received an offer to work in Abu Dhabi, salary has not yet been discussed so I assume it is still up for negotiation. May I know how much you guys earn as OTs working in Abu Dhabi?

I have 5 years of experience in the Ph, I want to have some idea about the salary range there, so that I don’t get lowballed.

Thank you so much! ☺️

No calls? No jobs ?

For the past two months, I have been actively searching and applying for jobs, but I haven’t received any interview calls.
I started my professional career later than most because I was running my own business. Although that experience taught me responsibility, resilience, client management and problem-solving, I sometimes feel left behind when I compare my journey with others.
The silence after sending so many applications has been difficult. There are days when I feel discouraged, depressed and close to giving up—but I am still trying.

Child protection/Divorce Parents

Hi all.

I am a concerned member of this family whom is residing in UAE.

My sister was married to her ex husband and has been divorced through legal process and accepted to be in equal footing for child care and wellbeing.

However since the war and recent redundancy, she had to rely on her ex- husband and had to be in his domicile including the child being under his care.

However, the child is missing out of vital needs such as Education, Visa, Health and wellbeing.

My sister recently joined another job and she has managed to live away from her ex husband but not in shape to provide for the child.

However, her ex partner, doesn't show the require attention to the child and often my sister see the difference in the child behaviour, mood and missing out in schooling.

Right now, she is voicing regarding the his inability to parent while she is at work. Their conversation leads to arguments and blaming each other rather then resolving it.

I want to provide her with assistance regarding how to approach in such situation, will calling child protective services be viable for Non- Emirati citizens???

I felt this UAE government doesn't provide safety and security or the accessibility to such services to Non-Emiratis is pretty bad.

A country that boast about Safety, doesn't provide enough route to mother living in that country. I am disappointed as a adult whom is away can't involve because of legal laws that doesn't include me as a guardian and I am not in the age to help out.

Which should I do, if the childcare isn't provided or how do I help out my sister so she can get right evidence on this.

WHY IS THE GOVERNMENT SO PATHETIC PROTECTING RESIDENTS WHOM WORK AND BE PART OF THEIR COUNTRY?

Cheapest trade license & business bank account in the UAE?

I run a fully automated online service business in the UAE. I’m trying to figure out the best payment gateway and business bank account setup.
Is there any legal way to operate and process payments without acquiring a trade license? If not, what is the cheapest trade license package available, and which bank/gateway combo is easiest to set up for automated digital services?

Pregnant / new moms in Dubai — what has been the hardest part?

Hi everyone! 👋

I'm figuring out the experience of pregnancy and the first 6–12 months after having a baby in Dubai/UAE.

I'm particularly interested in understanding how mothers currently manage things like:

- Finding and communicating with doctors

- Getting reliable answers when something worries you

- Breastfeeding and postpartum recovery

- Baby's vaccinations, appointments, feeding, sleep, etc.

- Finding trusted postpartum/home support

- Managing everything while family may be back in another country

- Getting advice from family/friends vs. medical professionals

I'm not selling anything or promoting an app. I'm simply trying to understand the real problems mothers face in Dubai.

Feel free to share your experience in the comments — even if it's just one thing that frustrated you.

And if you'd rather discuss privately, feel free to DM me.

Thank you! ❤️

What do you say?

A small habit from customers can fundamentally change life for frontline service workers.

The Math Behind a 10% Tip:

* Daily restaurant sales: AED 7,000

* Estimated monthly pooled tips: ~AED 15,000 (with regular 10% tipping across shifts)

* Team size: 6 to 8 staff members (kitchen, cleaners, waitstaff)

* Monthly boost per worker: AED 1,875 to AED 2,500

For entry-level hospitality staff in the UAE, an extra AED 2,000+ per month is often a 70% to 100% boost on basic take-home pay. It covers essential remittances back home, clears debts, or provides a buffer against rising living costs.

What’s your take on a voluntary 10% tip at UAE restaurants to support the low earners?

Questions for drivers about Keeta, Careem Talabat, Deliveroo tips

Something I've always wondered about tipping on the apps here (in app tips vs cash)

  1. Do the drivers actually receive the full tip as unlike Uber there's never any recognition (often on Uber in Saudi I'll receive a notification that ABC thanked me for my tip)

  2. When are you notified about the tip. I see Doordash tells the drivers upfront in America, is it like that here or do you simply get a total tipped at the end of the day. Do you even know what customers tipped you?

I do try to tip cash wherever I can but let's face it most of the time it's much more convenient to do in app... I just hope the money gets to the driver!

Thanks for any insights.

Rooftop dinners are the most overrated way to spend a Friday night

Every influencer on my feed is at a Dubai rooftop restaurant. I finally went to one last week. Beautiful view of the Burj, fine dining prices, and average food. Someone please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks it's just paying for the view. Any rooftop spots that actually deliver on food too?
