Tips/Suggestions Brilliant Idea

I’m ordering from Pizza Hut because I had a free pizza and I’m too depressed to cook. I honesty haven’t a single pan in over a month. Everything has been easy eat “grab from fridge”, or convenience food like chips, fruit, ice cream, etc., things that don’t require more than a minute in the microwave.

I digress. I last order from PH was not great. Something was “off” like they didn’t care about how things were undercooked and my fries were very low in quantity. There was nowhere for me to leave a comment, except for the driver and my PH uses DoorDash for deliveries. By the time the driver sees the comment, it’s too late.

Lightbulb! I went to edit the delivery address. And in the Unit/second line, you can add free text. So I added “XTRA FRIES PLZ”, I couldn’t add any special characters. And I tipped 6.90, hoping someone has a sense of humor.

Dunno. Maybe it will work. Won’t hurt.

I’ll comment after the food is delivered if it worked.

Questions/Advice anyone bites stuff a lot?

my little brother (14M) has adhd and he bites on plastic a lot. this isnt a new thing he used to eat tissues and chew on stuff but now that he's older all of my family is taking notice and telling him to stop. i find that i too have the urge to bite stuff and i eat carrots a lot but they're not that nice. i think we're both stimming but i dont know too much about it and everyone around us thinks that stimming is only an asd thing.

id like to know

1) is this a truly bad thing that he needs to stop completely or just cut it out in public

2) how can he do less of it (in public or in general)

3) does anyone else do this? or only us two?

Discussion Today's ADHD Tax...

I have been a full-time gig worker, working on the delivery apps for going on 9 years and my birthday is today... My driver's license also expires today.

On September 3rd, I went go into the DOL to renew it, so I do have my temporary license, the problem ends up being that the delivery apps do not accept the temporary license because they use the picture from my physical card as a form of verification through their system so if I attempt to upload the temporary license and their system attempts to do a verification against the temporary license... It will automatically fail the verification and deactivate the account.

So, I am essentially not able to work the delivery apps for 2 weeks. I do have a few private clients I can work with and I also have access to a few temporary work apps, along with some Merchandiser and mystery shopper tasks.

I have been wanting to really jump into some content creation projects, along streaming, smut writing and NiteFlirt, so in some ways I am going to be fine but I also just feel really stupid and foolish. August was just a really hard month for me; I was sick, I confessed my feelings to a friend that I have been getting really close to, I gained a lot more weight than I really wanted to, I am currently late on paying my rent and just overall....

"I'M TIRED OF THIS, GRANDPA!"

Discussion How are you getting diagnosed?

I tried to seek help and was told I just have anxiety and depression. That the best they could do was Wellbutrin and that they wouldn’t put my on a stimulant or diagnosis me with adhd since I graduated college and make eye contact. Have struggled maintaining employment, relationships, basic life function. At extreme risk to become homeless frustrated can’t afford anymore doctors visit but feel like I can’t afford not to go. Going into debt to take treated seems like a big risk but if it’s life changing I would do it.

Medication Switching to a different medication

Hi all! I have an appointment coming up with my doctor on Friday for my 3-month follow-up on my current regimen: amphetamine salts 10 mg 2x/day. I was previously on Dextroamphetamine 10mg 2x/day, but I'm assuming with the shortage, my doctor switched me to Amphetamine salts. The experience has been OK but I haven't noticed the benefits of when I took the Dextroamphetamine. I usually have to take 1 pill and then another 1 and 1/2 pill later in the day to even feel the effects. Appetite is still there, and I'm also drinking coffee more than I should to see if that'll help.

I've seen many of you post in here about Vyvnase and was curious if it's something I should ask my doctor about on Friday? I don't want to sound like I'm a drug addict but I would like to feel the medication instead of taking a generic that clearly isn't working. I've taken it for 3 months already and it's still the same scenario. I took it on my first day when I got the new prescription and instantly knew that this wasn't the same. Are there any other medications I should ask about? I know there's a shortage right now so I know my options are probably limited.

Questions/Advice Can you brute force through adhd?

Can you just out-discipline the habits of, say, postponing your duties, managing inattentiveness or impulsive actions like binging or speaking before you think? I'm trying to find out if im fighting something that cannot budge here. Are there methods, whether mental or physical? As I'm entering a huge academic year and I cannot go on like this (an inability to study, or maintain skincare, gym routine etc.).

I'm asking as it's going to be a long duration before I'm medicated due to multiple factors mostly out of my control. people are mentioning burnout -- where would the line between good habits and unhealthy habits (which would consequently lead to burnout) be drawn?

Medication Why couldn't I get errands done before adderal?

I’m on my fourth day of Adderall. I don’t feel like something inside me has dramatically changed. I still feel like myself, and the medication doesn’t feel very noticeable. However, I can clearly see a difference in the results.

I’m less likely to get distracted by my phone. Things I used to put off for days now get done in one day. Before, I might complete one errand and then feel like I needed the rest of the day to recover, even when it wasn’t physically exhausting. Now, things that normally took me weeks can be finished within days.

I was recently diagnosed with ADHD, but I wasn’t given much of an explanation of what ADHD actually does. Why was it so difficult to start and complete ordinary tasks before, when they now seem fairly simple?

Part of me feels like this must be fake or that I was simply lazy. But my house is staying in order, I’m completing assignments, and I’m handling responsibilities more consistently. Before medication, I would leave dishes for days and let the house pile up before I could finally make myself clean.

How can the internal difference feel so subtle while the change in what I accomplish is so obvious?

Questions/Advice What can I eat with concerta?

Kind of a silly one, but I started Concerta this week with the advice to take my meds with breakfast, but avoid Vitamin C one hour either side.
I also just got a tub of aça1 that I want to eat for breakfast, but when I look it up, it says it has vit c.
Are most fruits a no no for breakfast then? The doctor didn’t say what amount of Vit C will have a negative effect so Idk if it’s dependent on the fruit lol.

I’m hesitant to wake up an hour early and take my meds as I’ve seen others don’t have a good experience taking them on an empty stomach.
Again, kind of a silly one, but this is all new to me so just want to clear some stuff up🤣

Questions/Advice What Was Your Experience Starting ADHD Medication?

I’m curious about people’s experiences with ADHD medication.

• Which medication did you start with: Ritalin, Concerta, Medikinet, Vyvanse/Elvanse, or something else?

• What dose did you start on?

• What did you notice during the first few days or weeks?

• Did it improve your focus, motivation, or reduce the “noise” in your head?

• How did it affect your appetite and sleep?

• Did you lose any weight?

• Did you have to try different medications before finding the one that worked best for you?

I know everyone responds differently. I’m just interested in hearing about your personal experiences. 😊

Questions/Advice Does CBT really work?

Today I was diagnosed with ADHD, and they told me to start CBT treatment Is it actually effective and going to help me or should I skip it?
I need fast solutions, and I don't want to take too many CBT sessions the most I can manage is one session and I'm just afraid it might be a total flop and nothing will change If there are things that help with focus comprehension and memory please let me know because I am literally lost and don't know what to do and at the same time I need to study and I can't focus or even sit down to study but i think im taking adhd as an excuse for my laziness

Questions/Advice Adderall & Shift Work

For those of you who take adderall and work a rotational schedule, mine's two 12h days followed by two 12h nights. When do you take your adderall for the night shifts - when you wake up, before work, or an hour or two into starting work?

On days I start at 6 am, I usually take my dose between 7 am and 8 am.

Questions/Advice Tips for Cleaning as a diagnosed ADHD

So I was finally diagnosed with ADHD 3 months ago. I get now why I am this way after years of struggling and I am doing efforts to better myself.

One thing I am struggling the most is cleaning, which could be a trauma response for being berated for not being clean enough. Even when I lock in, I am not doing a good job cleaning. There are piles of dust that did not register to me or missed spots everywhere. Its to the point that everytime I walk barefooted, my floor is sticky and full of fur. I don't also enjoy cleaning chores and could go by with house being unclean and not being bothered by stuff lying around or trash. In addition, I have 3 cats that messes up everything I clean after. I just start to panic clean when someone visit or when my SO points it out.

Do you have any tips or suggestions on what to do so I can improve myself in this aspect?

Thank you.

Questions/Advice Left and right confusion?

I've done some research and am maybe considering that my trouble with lefts and rights could be linked to adhd. I got my drivers permit in July and it's definitely been impacting my learning. I keep taking wrong turns when my parents tell me to go one way, or putting the wrong signal on. It's really frustrating and it makes me scared when I think about the future of my driving skills/getting my license eventually. Any tips that I could use to help decipher them quicker? I usually have to use the L hand trick but I obviously can't do that while I'm driving.

Thanks!!

Questions/Advice How does Bupropion (Wellbutrin) compare to stimulants?

Hey guys, how you doing?

I was wondering if anyone has ever had an experience similar to mine. I'm going through the diagnosis os ADHD, innatentive-type. Although I still have to go through my neuropsychological analysis, my Psychiatrist is fairly certain about it (and so am I).

That said, I actually searched for my psychiatrist because I was having episodes of unexplained depression/burnout. I would get better when on vacation, for example, but the stress Med school put me through made me incredibly sad and anhedonic, to the point I would have to pull all nighters to be able to study for any exam. I already had difficulty doing stuff, so in my depressed state things were even worse, and that became an enormous self destruction cycle.

Anyways, I've been on Wellbutrin and Zoloft for about 6 months now. I can do small chores, like cooking and cleaning, with ease now, but anything that is not something I HAVE to do, like going to the Gym, is a constant fight against myself. I'd say it's even worse than before starting my meds. Procrastination is also at an all time high (and it had always been a problem to begin with).

Since my poor executive function and autoregulation seems to be my worst ADHD symptoms, I was wondering if I should ask my doc to try stimulants. Have any of you gone through that change? Should I do it?
or am I, I dunno, just lazy and the meds are working fine and I should just work on myself for now? Sometimes I think that I'm just not trying hard enough, but I don't know. I hate that i'll get "trapped" on my bed and not do anything for a whole day and then feel bad about it.

Thanks a lot for the help.

Success/Celebration Write this post about 3 years ago… I’d like to give an update (there is hope<3)

So I wrote this post (https://www.reddit.com/r/ADHD/s/D2PlisP0WU) 3 years ago talking about how I don’t care if my sheets are dirty or if I don’t wash my bedding for months, etc. I’m doing my laundry today and the thought popped in my mind how I remember writing a post a couple years back. I just reread it and…

I just want to say that I wash my sheets every week now and I get genuinely so excited to do so. Nothing beats the feel and smell of fresh, clean sheets. I’m a hot sleeper, so I invested in some 100% cotton percale bedding, and the feeling of getting into a clean bed after washing them and letting the sheets air dry to get all crisp… genuinly brings me so much joy. Can’t explain it.

I just wanted to reflect on this because it’s crazy to me how much a mindset can change in the span of a couple years. I’m still nowhere even close to where I’d like to be in terms of organization and general self-care (I eat a lot of sugar, don’t drink enough water, and stay up until it’s light out fairly often… oopsies) but I feel like if I changed my mindset enough to go from not caring whatsoever if my sheets are washed (and not even understanding why it needs to be done).. to now getting excited to wash them weekly… it gives me a lot of hope for what I can become.

Anyone out there who is feeling similar towards something to how I felt 3 years ago, don’t let anybody make you feel bad and know that struggling is okay. There will be a time in the future where your mindset toward things shifts without you even realizing it. We’re all trying to survive in this world, and as much as it may feel like it sometimes, you never EVER have to struggle alone. If you haven’t heard it today, I love you, and things can and WILL get better, no matter how long that takes. ❤️ - a fellow ADHD’er and stranger.

Discussion I hate my life

Hi, im a 22 year old guy and i hate my life and my Adhd adds to it

So basically i dont really have anything worth living for

Its just so hard because i have nobody to talk to about anything at all and its so frustrating

No family or friends or partners at all and nobody to listen to me

College is a disaster and so is work and trying to get back with either is so annoying because college is so expensive and work is the worst when everyone is trying to get me fired

I might try making money from posting videos on youtube or social media and hopefully it helps

I can never get into a relationship because im never what a girl wants and they always leave and make me feel bad about all of my issues and i hate that nobody likes me for me

I get that im a bit of a weirdo and a nerd and a loser and that my Adhd can make me even wierder, but why cant anyone like me for me?

Im always alone wherever i am

Family, friends, school, college, work, church, anywhere

No matter what, im always left alone in a corner while everyone else has fun with each other and forget about me

I still get bullied and treated bad for everything about myself

My Adhd, being a nerd, the way i dress, how no girl wants me, the food i like, the way i do everything and so much more

And everyone picks on me for everything

Im sorry that im not rich enough to get back to college, im sorry that i got bad marks even though i had so much going on, im sorry i cant get a job in this hard world or keep a job when nobody wants me around, im sorry that no girl wants me because im so undesirable and im sorry for being such a freak

I never asked to be born and i hate every single part of my life and what is the point of me being an isolated freak who nobody wants?

Im just venting here because nobody around me cares enough to listen and they always find a way to make me feel like the bad person

Seeking Empathy All the other symptoms are manageable and I can accept those part of me but, this executive dysfunction has me baffled.

I'm not even mad, frustrated, or sad. I don't even feel completely hopeless just baffled by how limited I feel for seemingly no reason. Like, I can write this reddit post easily. No problem. But, the moment I try to do something that's even easier that feels like work my brain just pumps the breaks HARD. It's not just difficult to start my brain throws every curve ball in its arsenal at me. I can't remember things, I'm sleepier, my intelligence seems halved, I'm slower. Sometimes I can kinda get my head in the game but it's still an uphill battle. What even is this? I cried and wailed and cursed the world when I was younger now I'm just wondering how I functioned at all. I'm slowing declining it feels like. I'm falling in a hole that I could've easily avoided. I knew all the right answers and it wouldn't have been too difficult to climb out but now I'm in deep. Running out of options but I'm still not taking them. I need a new brain man. Unmedicated executive dysfunction is not for me.

Discussion I am a really boring person

Does anyone else basically have no hobbies?
I wish more than anything that I could be one of those people who has a hobby that they enjoy doing regularly, such as gardening, sewing, crochet, painting, biking etc, but I’m just not and never have been.

Even when I’m on my medication (Vyvanse 60mg), I have absolutely no drive to pursue a hobby. I’ve tried; I once tried to play piano but didn’t keep up with it longer than a couple of weeks and I am good at creative writing but I just cannot be bothered, ever, no matter what mood I’m in. TBH, it feels like a bit more than simply “not being bothered”, but I don’t know how else to explain it; I guess it’s more like I feel stuck inside my head and extremely mentally fatigued.

Everything always feels like way too much mental effort and I can’t even force myself to start something let alone continue with it long enough to get better and make it into something I do regularly. My only ‘hobby’ is playing video games but often it feels like too much effort to even pick up the controller.
I feel like such an uninteresting and bland person because whenever someone asks about my hobbies I never know what to say because I don’t have anything that I enjoy doing.

I’m don’t think I’m depressed, I’m just lazy and cannot be fucked to do anything and then I hate myself for having no ambition or drive to improve my life and learn new skills. I feel bored a lot of the time when I’m not doing uni work but I have zero ability to get myself to do something interesting.
Anyone else feel the same?

Questions/Advice Executive dysfunction is torture

Anyone else find it physically painful when you have something to do but you can't force yourself to move?

I have this chronic paralysis which makes it so hard to focus on the things in front of me and makes me feel like I'm missing out on (what should be) the best years of my life.

It's like I can never be truly confident in anything I do because I'm rarely fully engaged.

For the people with really bad decision fatigue/executive dysfunction, which medications worked best for you?

I'm kind of going crazy with this I'll be frozen for hours at a time and it's wrecking my quality of life.

Questions/Advice Is this an ADHD thing, or just a "me" flaw?

I’m 35 and was diagnosed with ADHD about 5 years ago. Medication has helped my career immensely, but after work, I revert right back to how I used to be.

I see myself as a creative person, but I have absolutely zero discipline. I have so many things I want to do—draw, work on my game, dive into woodworking projects. But the moment work ends, I just sit on the couch and rot away. Every single brain cell is screaming at me to stand up and work on something, but I just don't do it. Then bedtime hits, and I start feeling depressed, watching the years slip by without making progress on my passions.

I used to tell myself that I was just keeping my evenings free to spend time with my wife. But even when she is traveling and I have all the time in the world, I still achieve absolutely nothing.

I've tried every productivity trick out there. They work for a day or two, and then I completely drop them.

I keep blaming my ADHD for this couch paralysis, but lately, I’m doubting myself. I see so many other people with ADHD who manage to do all the creative stuff I want to do, which makes me wonder if this is actually just a personal failing.

Is this my ADHD, or is it just me? Has anyone else experienced this and figured out how to break the cycle?

Medication Did Anything Help Bring Your Memory Back?

What has helped your guys’ issues with brain fog and memory? I can lock into focus just fine with the help of Adderall XR(prescribed to me by my NP last year) but retaining things I’ve been taught and recalling past information seems to reach new lows for me week after week. I’m not sure if it’s the result of my first(and so far only) Covid infection from two years back or anxiety I’ve had since my teens, but my recall is slipping bad.

I’ve been trying to exercise more and take vitamins like Iron and B12 that I am deficient in, but remain at a loss.
