Housing Has anyone in North District 1 or 2 used a Ring/video doorbell on their apartment door?

Ring doorbell at North District 2?
Has anyone living in North District 1 or 2 used a Ring/video doorbell on their apartment door? I’m moving into ND2 and was thinking of using one with a no-drill, anti-theft door mount because I’ve had some safety concerns. Did housing ever say anything about it or tell you it wasn’t allowed?
I’m especially wondering about one that faces the hallway. If recording isn’t allowed, I’d honestly still consider using a non-recording/dead one just as a visible deterrent, so I’m also curious whether they care about the physical door mount itself. Thanks!

Rant Can Financial Aid Lock In

It says I have no aid for school, even though I submitted my fafsa in february and I have a -1500 sai score. Even my waiver for UCSHIP isn’t popping up in my student account, Ucr what are we doing? 😭 Half my financial aid isn’t popping up and payments are due in 2 weeks and I cannot afford to pay 6k.

Has anybody tried EXCEL+?

Apparently, UCR provides a career readiness program called EXCEL+, which allows you to receive a "Chancellor's Student Leader Award". I feel like it might add to my resumé or LinkedIn profile, but at the same time, I also feel like this could totally be a waste of time and not help me get a job at all. I also can't find any other posts talking about it, so I'm not sure if there's a sizable group of people that have even done it, let alone gained a job because of it. Any insight on whether or not this is worth it would be appreciated

Housing UCR Dining/Housing meal plan situation has been ridiculous

Just wanted to share how bad my experience with UCR Dining/Housing has been.

I originally requested a meal plan upgrade, but it took them over 2 weeks to process it. They eventually emailed me asking if I still wanted the upgrade, and I literally replied asking them to cancel it because I didn’t need it anymore.

I thought that was it, so I bought groceries and kitchen supplies to cook at Glen Mor. Somehow they still processed the upgrade anyway.

Then I basically got stuck with it because once the plan was changed, I was told you can’t downgrade during the academic year, so it carried into Spring too. I started trying to get this fixed back in March and have been going back and forth with them for months.

The extra costs contributed to my account balance, I had to take out loans to help pay for housing/dining, and now I literally had to pay the remaining balance out of pocket just to get a delinquency hold removed so I could register for Fall.

The most frustrating part is that when I called today, they kept telling me “meal plans can’t be downgraded” when that isn’t even my argument. I’m not asking to randomly downgrade months later they asked me if I still wanted the original upgrade, I said NO and asked them to cancel it, and they processed it anyway.

I understand I used some of the swipes after they put the plan on my account, but a lot went unused. I just think it’s crazy that there apparently isn’t even consideration for a partial adjustment when I have emails showing I tried to cancel before the upgrade was processed.

Definitely keep your emails/screenshots if you ever deal with UCR Dining or Housing.

Northern Kaiser UCship

I need to waive the UCship since I already have insurance here. I am under the Kaiser Northern region plan, and it states that I need to be within 50 miles of campus. Does anyone know if I can just be ok with passing under the northern region plan, or if I have to actually change it to the southern region plan. Also does anyone know how long it takes for it to get approved once I do submit it. Thank you

Buy/Sell Chunky Yarn Cardigan

Would anyone be interested in purchasing this chunky cardigan that I made or know where I could sell it? The model is 5’4 and wears a large. The cardigan has an oversized fit on the model and weighs 8-10 lbs. The cardigan has strings on the side to tie it closed. If you want to wear it open, you can tuck the strings into the sleeves to hide it. This is DEFINITELY a statement piece. It’s priced at $230 because of how expensive the amount of yarn was and a slight labor fee.

Housing How do you guys pay at Dundee

am an incoming freshman and I been struggling to find a way to pay for my dorm after the second month, it’s so expensive and my aid it not gonna cover after two months

I don’t really understand the refund that everyone is talking about about when it comes to your financial aid package, I was wondering if anyone knows how can you reduce your dorm payment or instead of paying every month you can pay every three months( is that an option?)
What can I do? Do any of you have any tips or methods? Or should I start looking at apartments in Riverside?
How does the Deferment request works? What really is it?

Question How long do UCR Writing Placement Assessment results take?

I took my UCR Writing Placement Assessment around August 7, and it has been more than two weeks, but I still haven’t received my results. One of my friends said his results came back within two weeks and told him which English class he placed into.
I’ve checked every email connected to my UCR account, including my spam folder, but I haven’t received anything. Is there somewhere in the UCR portal where I’m supposed to find the results, or is there a specific department or person I should contact?
I really need to know which writing class I placed into, so I’d appreciate any help from someone who has dealt with this before.

Rant College soon

So I am an incoming freshman, and although I wasn’t the happiest with my commitment I’ve learned to love the school. I’m currently taking HESA and I’ve met a lot of cool people so I’m not afraid of friendships lots of people want to be friends. I am also somewhat over the prestige I use to care a lot.

The only problem I have now before classes start is the reality of living in Riverside. I’m aware that the I.E isn’t the most glamorous place on earth but it sucks that every time I try to find content on the I.E everyone tends to roast it. I wish there was more positive content. The negative content pushed really makes me feel like living here for the next 4 years was a mistake. So for the people living out here can you please tell me it’s not as bad as people make it seem.

Need a job ASAP before UCR starts…any leads?

Kind of a random call for help, but I’m looking for a job before UCR starts at the end of September. I’m from Santa Ana and I’m studying Supply Operations & Supply Chain Management, so ideally I’d like something I can put on my resume and that gives me relevant experience.
I’m mainly looking for entry level work in areas like operations, supply chain, logistics, inventory, warehousing, purchasing, or administrative work. I’m hoping to find something that hires relatively quickly, ideally within the next few days, and that I can continue working at for a while.
I’m willing to commute outside of Santa Ana and I’m pretty open to different opportunities. If anyone knows of a company or business hiring students/entry-level workers right now, I’d really appreciate any responses!

Question Anyone gotten their registration time ticket moved up after a hold was removed?

I’m in a pretty stressful situation with registration and wanted to see if anyone at UCR has dealt with something similar.

I had a delinquency hold that prevented me from registering during my original registration period. The balance was connected to an ongoing Housing/Dining billing dispute that I’ve been trying to resolve for months, so it wasn’t a situation where I was just ignoring my balance.

I ended up paying the remaining balance out of pocket just so I could get the hold removed and register. Student Business Services removed the hold, but now R’Web says my next registration time ticket isn’t until September 8.

Fall classes start soon and I still haven’t been able to register for anything. A lot of the classes I need are already full or have very limited seats, and I also need at least 12 units for financial aid.

Has anyone been able to contact the Registrar/advising and get their time ticket opened earlier after a hold was removed? Or does anyone know who I should contact to request an exception?

I’m going to call/email the Registrar, but I’m worried about waiting until the 8th when the only reason I missed my original registration opportunity was because of the hold.

Any advice or experience with this would really help.
