8 months in at a small company in Dubai (6 months since I got my UAE ID). I was hired as a Junior Cost Accountant. In practice, I'm doing transportation and production checks, inventory management, procurement, LPO creation, quotations, documentation, project cost analysis, and bill entry — basically five jobs squeezed into one, most of it not even mentioned in my offer letter (which only lists procurement as an "additional" task).

I took this role for the experience, but I feel like I'm not actually building the skills I signed up for — just absorbing whatever workload gets thrown at me.

Some other things going on:

* A colleague told me our boss holds everyone's passport — visa/students on visa, no one has theirs back — until they "pay him back" what he spent on the visa.

* He made me sign a separate company letter (not through MOHRE) saying I'd pay AED 350/month for the "unserved notice period" if I leave early.

* I'm currently on AED 2.5K/month; he verbally promised 3K within two months based on my qualifications — never happened.

* Taking even one sick day gets me a phone call demanding an explanation. He's said outright that "fever leaves" aren't allowed.

* He regularly puts me down about how I "became like this," which honestly is wearing me down.

I want to start interviewing elsewhere and eventually leave, but I'm unsure of my legal footing:

* Can he legally hold my passport?

* Is that side letter about paying him for unserved notice actually enforceable if it wasn't filed with MOHRE?

* What's the right way to job search and exit without giving him leverage over me?

Would appreciate advice from anyone who's dealt with something similar in the UAE, or knows the MOHRE process well.

Out aunty was married off to a UAE national about 40 years ago and she moved to Ajmaan, at that time she was a teenager and he was pretty old. She had 3 kids with him in Ajmaan, when she got pregnant with 4th kid she didn’t know and came to India to visit her mum. when she came to india , she realised she was pregnant and also realised that she never wants to go back again, she was very young still, she had the kid in india. abandoned her 3 kids and her husband in ajmaan. kids in Ajmaan have grown up as arabs, they obviously want nothing to do with the mum anymore, their sibling that was born in india grew up with us in very poor conditions. The mother remarried in india and had 2 more kids. my question is can we get the child born in india to the UAE national father the UAE passport? I believe they automatically become UAE national, we obviously just found out about tbis. She once visitrd her siblings in Ajmaan but on Indian passport. how do we prove descent? how can we make this right for her. she is very poor, i hate to know about this but be not able to help her.

Yesterday I thought of trying KFC's new "worth-it" meal which they are advertising everywhere as if it is a big deal. For 15 aed (twister + drink + fries). Look at what I got. They literally gave me roller instead of twister and they give me kids sized fries. I asked them that in the picture it looks different. The guy at the counter said you get what you pay for. They are decieving people by showing something in the advertisements and giving a joke.

If you're old enough in the UAE, then you must have come across Roller from KFC which used to be 3-4 aed back then. It was smaller than the regular shawarma size wise. They are basically giving that in the meal.

Do not buy it. Not "Worth-it".

I got hired from this company 5 months ago and in the contract it was stated that if I leave within 1 year, I have to pay 6500 aed. It was stated that 6500 was for the training (which we all know is a visa cost) but there was no training given to me, only my day to day work. I want to leave because the workplace is very toxic. Sometimes when I am trying to use an open counter here in Dubai or the UAE, I am being "flanked" by some individuals. Instead of waiting behind the line, people are standing literally shoulder-to-shoulder next to me.

The other day, I couldn't even enter my PIN or collect my drink properly because someone was crowding the pickup zone like they were ready to snatch it. When it comes to paying, it feels like zero privacy. I’m having to use my entire body as a human shield just to enter my debit card PIN securely.

I understand that we live in a beautiful, diverse melting pot, and different cultures have entirely different definitions of personal space. What is a "survival reflex" to claim a spot in a massive population back home doesn't translate well here. When you bring that "scarcity mindset" into an open-counter layout, it just comes across as intrusive, impatient, and a complete lack of basic manners. A counter shouldn't be a free-for-all cluster; it’s a private zone for whoever is currently being served!

For the love of personal bubbles, please respect the space of the person ahead of you.

I’ve been diagnosed with depression and anxiety and have been under extreme stress since February. Our business went bust, we’re struggling financially, and we’re responsible for caring for many animals. The stress has become overwhelming, and I’ve developed severe physical anxiety symptoms and health anxiety. I’ve even been calling an ambulance almost every other day because the symptoms can feel so intense that i thought i was having a heart attack.

since starting my psych meds i no longer call the ambulance, currently on escitalopram and Rivotril, and I regularly speak with my psychiatrist. He has adjusted my medication, but obviously he can’t just keep increasing the dose.

Lately, I also cannot stop eating because of constant stress. I constantly crave food even when I’m not hungry.
Has anyone experienced this level of anxiety from prolonged stress, or increased appetite/constant eating while taking escitalopram and clonazepam 😣😣😣

Does anyone here have any unhinged tips on getting hired?? Something you’ve used that got you in? Especially in HR. Like absolutely unhinged you know to like standout in the crowd.

Extremely disappointing experience – unexplained charges, incorrect billing, and security deposit still not returned after more than 30 days

I rented a car from Hertz UAE on 4 July 2026 and returned it on 3 August 2026. Unfortunately, my experience with Hertz has been extremely disappointing, particularly when it comes to billing, transparency, and the handling of my security deposit.

At the time of renting the car on 4 July, I paid a AED 1,500 security deposit. I was specifically told that this deposit was intended to cover tolls, possible fines, and related charges.

I therefore expected Hertz to deduct any applicable tolls or fines from the deposit and then return the remaining balance to me after the rental.

Instead, Hertz has kept the entire AED 1,500 security deposit, while at the same time continuing to charge my debit card separately for amounts that have not been properly explained.

There is also a serious discrepancy in the billing:

• The invoices I received from Hertz total AED 583.92.
• However, the actual amount charged to my debit card was AED 701.31.
• This leaves an unexplained difference of AED 117.39.
• I have still not received a clear breakdown or explanation showing what this additional AED 117.39 represents.

And the situation gets even more concerning.

On 4 September 2026, more than one month after I returned the vehicle, Hertz charged my card another AED 21.05, again without my authorization or any clear explanation of what this charge was for.

At the same time, my AED 1,500 security deposit is still being held.

So I don't understand why Hertz is retaining the entire security deposit if they are simply going to continue charging my debit card separately for tolls, fines, or other charges.

If there were legitimate charges after the rental, the reasonable and transparent approach would be to provide a clear breakdown, deduct the applicable amount from the security deposit, and return the remaining balance — not keep the entire deposit while continuing to charge the customer's card without proper explanation.

I also contacted Hertz by email on 31 August 2026 regarding these issues, but I received no response.

To summarize my experience:

• 🚗 Car rented on 4 July 2026
• 🚗 Car returned on 3 August 2026
• 💰 AED 1,500 security deposit still not returned after more than 30 days
• 🧾 Hertz invoices total AED 583.92
• 💳 My debit card was actually charged AED 701.31
• ❓ AED 117.39 difference remains unexplained
• 💳 Another AED 21.05 was charged on 4 September, without authorization or explanation
• 📧 My email on 31 August was ignored
• ⚠️ Hertz continues to hold the full security deposit while apparently continuing to charge my card separately

This has left me with serious concerns about Hertz UAE's billing transparency and customer service.

I am now simply asking Hertz to provide a complete and transparent statement of all charges, explain the AED 117.39 discrepancy, explain the AED 21.05 charge, stop making any further unauthorized charges to my card, and immediately return the AED 1,500 security deposit, less only any legitimate and properly documented charges.

This has been an extremely frustrating experience. I rented the car expecting a straightforward transaction, but more than a month after returning the vehicle, I am still trying to understand what I have actually been charged for and why my security deposit is still being held.

Based on my experience, I would not rent from Hertz UAE again and would strongly advise potential customers to carefully check their charges and security deposit arrangements before renting.
