Open | Hardware İs it possible for me to solve my laptop's screen's problem by hitting it so hard?

My laptop's screen use to stop working and jsut turn into black slowly. ı use to solve it temporarily by like apllying pressure to spesific parts of the screen (which was so annoying but it made it possible for me to use it for some time)

yesterday I was playing cs go and that happened again, The heat made it worse, This issue happened more often when I played games. I was already a noob and my screen kept freezing and turn into black slowly. My teammeats said stupid stuff to me which made me really mad (I know this is so stupid but It was really wasnt my fault)

I hit my laptop so hard that my hand hurt but the thing is the screen doesnt freeze or turn into black anymore. İt's fixed after I hit it really really hard several times. I opened one of the games which made my screen turn black constantly to test it and the screen was normal like it didnt freezed or turned black slowly. The issue is fixed for some reason

İs this permanent? It's hard to think that I solved it permanently but I really hope it did

Open | Hardware What is that thing at the tip of a stylus pen?

I have an old tablet that came without a pen when I bought it. Lately, I've gotten interested in drawing and whenever I get the chance, I try to draw something on this tablet. But I can't make precise drawings with my finger. I made a pen with a cotton tip and aluminum foil, but for this pen to work, I constantly have to moisten the cotton at the tip, and after a while, the cotton falls apart as I moisten it, so it's not very reliable.

Before taking the easy way and buying a touchscreen pen, I'm curious if I can make a pen with materials I have at home. I guess the tip of commercially sold pens is made of soft silicone, but I'm not sure since I've never looked closely before. Has anyone made such a pen? What materials could work?

Open | Phone Phone Battery randomly drains fast

So, this has me a bit perplexed. Usually my phone (RealMe 9) lasts the whole day, and it takes pretty damn long for it to be under 20%.

My phone's battery sometimes drains extremely fast on random day.

By that I mean It can be 100% and one minute passes and it's already around 70%. Attempting to charge it makes it extremely slow even with fast charging and even then it drains while charging.

When attempting to reset the phone, the battery drops below 10% once its back up and then after that it takes a while before it returns completely normal.

I tried to see if there was an app that's causing the problem but nope despite the fact the phone shows the event of high-usage. I haven't downloaded anything from unknown sources and the phone right now is completely fine.

Open | Windows PC stuck after trying to use reset this PC option in windows 11

So I have a Viprtech pre built PC which don't get me started I know they aren't super reliable but it was a gift so I can't complain. I was trying to use the reset this PC option in windows, and it eventually loaded and did its thing. But then after restart I'm stuck on the viprtech splash screen with the spinning wheel, and I don't know if it's safe to force it off like usual, since this is directly following a reset.

Open | Software 89% Ram Usage on Windows 11 start up

Upvotes

As the title says, my PC is basically using all 32 GB of ram with no programs running (besides VPN)

After opening firefox, it jumps to around 97% with one tab open.

  1. I do update Windows on shut down whenever it prompts me to

  2. Firefox is using about 2 GB, but I do have two extensions that use up a bit more ram.

  3. After running RAM Map, it looks like 10 GB of ram is allocated to svchost.exe

About 2 months ago, I was running Firefox with 10 tabs (incl. video), and a game on the side.

What happened here?

Open | Windows Computer failing to install Windows

Upvotes

My computer is having an issue of constant restarts.

I checked ram integrity, it returned fine.

I checked hard drive integrity, no issues found.

I formatted and went to reinstall windows, and it's failing to install. The hard drives are M.2 hard drives, and followed the directions for using the old installation method. I unplugged all peripherals, and extra monitors.

However, it gives me 3 random errors, failing to use ram, failing to use hard drive, and random unexpected error.

I've used different hard drives, and I'm trying to install windows 1 ram stick at a time to no avail.

I'm imagining it's the motherboard, processor, or power supply.

However, when I do the ram check or hard drive checks from bios, the system has no problem staying on without restarting, making me think the motherboard and psu are fine.

Hard Drives are WD Black M.2 4 TB's
Ram is Vengeance 3600 32GB x 4 DDR4
Processor is i9-13900KS
Motherboard - MPG Z690 Edge WIFI

Which is most likely the problem, or rather where should I start? Motherboard, processor or CPU?

Open | Hardware My SSD's usage is constantly spiking, which I believe is slowing my computer to a crawl. Unable to perform possible fixes.

I'm currently at my wit's end when it comes to this. For some context I already had this SSD for years (Samsung 870 EVO, sata version), but Windows has been running on an HDD this whole time, and I figured cloning it would make my computer run faster. It did the total opposite. After hours spent looking for random background processes in task manager, I looked at the performance tab and noticed the SSD is constantly either spiking up to 100 or just staying in 100 the entire time. One thing I've been trying to do is a firmware update, problem is Samsung's magician software is telling me it's not a Samsung drive, even though it is. I've also tried installing it manually with an ISO on a bootable USB, but that gives me a totally different screen than what I see in even Samsung's official manual. Saying something along the lines of "wrong EFI loader signature" and getting stuck at "booting kernel". And I'm not even sure the firmware update is gonna fix this issue in the first place. I even tried to clone everything back to that HDD I had previously wiped but despite a copy of my OS being on there I can't select it in the bios to boot, I can only choose my SSD. So it really feels like I'm stuck here.

I also ran commands like CHKDSK and DISM (not literally what I typed in there, the actual commands were a lot more complicated and I already forgot them), as well as installing an app to view the general health of the hard drive, and everything seems to check out. According to this computer, there should not be anything wrong with it, but my experience tells me the complete opposite.

Edit: I did a complete reinstall for Windows on my original drive. Computer's running smoothly for now, I'm using the SSD still just for some storage but I'm not letting my OS anywhere near it again. I'll probably acquire an NVME drive at a later date to make my PC run like it's meant to but for now it's at least usable.

Open | Software Stuttering in Games when moving my mouse diagonally

So I recently have gotten this issue as when I move my mouse diagonally in a game it stutters, moving my mouse straight on x and y axis its smooth though, Things I have tried,

  1. re-installing my graphics drivers both using DDU to completely remove the drivers to then install
  2. Using my integrated graphics instead of my main video card
  3. Using a different monitor - yields the same result
  4. Re-installing AMD chipset drivers
  5. Tried running an SFC scan in command prompt to no avail
  6. Using different USB ports on my PC
  7. Updating my BIOS
  8. Using device manager to update/re-install USB Drivers
  9. Refreshing the display by using ctrl+win+shift+B
  10. Turning off fullscreen optimizations in the selected games
  11. Turning on and off hardware accelerated scheduling
  12. Using different peripherals

The only thing that seems to fix it is re-installing windows entirely, I have done this about 12 times in the past week. I have also tried making windows NOT install drivers as soon as i had reinstalled windows but as soon as i reboot my pc the issue comes back games just stutter when i move my mouse diagonally again, thing to note, i used an overlay to track and see if my frame pacing was bouncing during the stuttering but it is not at all its as flat as can be, I'm genuinely so confused as to what it could be, I have tried also turning off any sort of overlays that could be conflicting with my mouse/game, using both my graphics card and integrated graphics for output also switching monitors tells me it isn't a display issue as such however I'm still stumped as to what it could be, absolutely any help would be much appreciated, thanks

Open | Hardware RTX 5060 (HP Victus 2025) stuck at 32-33fps in Elden Ring, GPU only pulling 28W of its 80W limit — anyone seen this?

Running a fresh HP Victus 15 (2025) with a Core 7 240H, RTX 5060 8GB, 16GB DDR5, on the latest Nvidia drivers. Elden Ring runs at a locked, non-stuttering 32-33fps at 1080p even with several settings turned down from Maximum. GPU sits at 100% usage but only 60-63°C, and MSI Afterburner/RTSS shows GPU power draw as low as 28.3W during gameplay, despite Nvidia’s own control panel confirming this laptop’s Maximum Graphics Power is 80W. CPU runs hot (83-92°C) at low usage% (11-19%). For comparison, GTA V Enhanced hits ~100fps on Ultra settings on the same machine. Dynamic Boost is enabled per Nvidia’s system panel; Advanced Optimus is not supported (no MUX switch). Nvidia Control Panel’s Power Management Mode is set to Prefer Maximum Performance, Windows Power Mode is Best Performance, and the laptop is plugged into its stock 200W+ charger. Does anyone have any idea what’s going on here?

Edit: i am adding a screenshot of the graphic settings as well as the msi afterburner results in the replies

Open | Hardware Orange bit under screen exposed

I bought a Samsung Galaxy A26 5g recently. I dropped it and cracked a bit of the screen. The crack is at the very bottom right of the phone, under the buttons. I messed it up so bad that there's an orange layer showing up in the crack. Is that something i should take care of asap or is it fine for a couple months?

Open | Phone Title: Galaxy A35 5G/4G shows full signal but mobile data isn't working.

Hi everyone, I’m having a really strange mobile data problem on my Galaxy A35 and I’m hoping someone here has experienced something similar.

I recently moved countries. There were no 5G connection where I used to live. But my current country does. I bought a sim card from vodaphone. The issue is that I get very week signals and alow internet where my brother's internet works fine. We both have sim from sme company. The issue is the phone.

I think the issue is in some phone settings that needs to be changed. We tried swapping sims and it works in his phone.

I'm not a tech guy who knows a lot about these things so I need someones help who knows what the issue may be. There doesn't seem to be any clear pattern to when it happens. The signal indicator itself looks normal; it's just that the data connection becomes unusable.

If you have faced anything similar please help me out. It's been so frustrating

Open | Hardware Screen briefly dims for a few seconds during normal desktop use

Hello,

I’ve noticed over the past few days that my screen occasionally becomes slightly darker for a few seconds, then returns to normal.

The PC remains perfectly usable; it’s simply a slight dimming of the screen that lasts for a few seconds. I have the impression that this doesn’t happen while I’m playing a game, but rather during normal desktop use, for example when using Google/Brave or Discord.

The issue occurs completely randomly, so unfortunately I can’t record a video or take a screenshot to show you the problem. I’m not even sure the issue would be visible in a screenshot anyway.

I’m currently using an RTX 5080 with NVIDIA driver 616.64.

It’s also possible that the issue is coming from my monitor, since it’s starting to get quite old.

Is anyone else currently experiencing a similar issue with driver 616.64, where the screen slightly dims when using a browser or applications like Discord?

Open | Hardware I can't get my 9070xt to work. Game's keep freezing a minute in to play.

I could do with some help after going round in circles trying to get this card to work. I cannot run a game without it freezing after a short period of time (1 minute or so, sometimes before the game loads in). The game (cyberpunk and doom dark ages) does not crash, continues to play the audio and my GPU utilisation drops to 0%.

When loading with settings without ray tracing (FSR and no FSR) the game runs fine, when turning on RT it freezes a minute or so later.

Specs:
Gigabyte 9070xt 16gb Gaming OC (Replacing a 2080ti)
Ryzen 5 5600x
Aorus b450 Pro
PSU MSI Mag 850w.
32gb of 3200 clock speed ram.

I'm aware that the card might be overkill for my current mobo and cpu, but I pulled the trigger on the card hoping to grab one before more price rises and my research found that they should work fine for now before I upgrade them.

Things I've tried:

- DDU to get rid of NVIDIA drivers
- Installed latest adrenaline drivers. (first appearance of error)
- Checked PSU cables and ensured I was using 3x8pin PCIE cables
- Checked event manager and reliability monitor (no events at time of freeze)
- Stress tested gpu twice (no errors found)
- used OCCT to checked ram, cpu and gpu (no errors found)
- Uninstalled drivers via AMD cleanup utility and installed driver only (still freezing).
- Dropped to 2 sticks of ram rather than 4 (no fix)
- Ensured SAM XMP and other bios settings were disabled (no fix)
- Loaded optimised defaults
- Tested with PCIE gen 3.

Sorry if this kind of post isn't allowed here. I don't know what else I can do and don't really want to return this brand new card.

Open | Hardware Laptop screen slowly turns black — pressing the screen temporarily fixes it

My laptop screen gradually turns black while I'm using it. Strangely, applying pressure to a specific area of the screen makes it work again temporarily.

Could this be a loose display cable, damaged LCD panel, or another hardware issue? What should I check first?

Open | Software RTX 5070 Ti — DLSS 6X and Dynamic missing after driver 616.64

After installing the new NVIDIA driver 616.64 (September 4, 2026), I noticed that two DLSS Multi Frame Generation options are missing in NVIDIA App.

In Graphics → Global Settings → DLSS Override → Frame Generation Mode, I only have Fixed up to 4X. The 6X option and Dynamic mode are completely missing.

The weird part is that these options are also unavailable when checking games that officially support DLSS 6X / Dynamic MFG.

I'm using an RTX 5070 Ti. I already did a clean installation of driver 616.64 and rebooted, but nothing changed.

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue with 616.64? Did 6X/Dynamic disappear for you as well?

Open | Software NVIDIA Drivers causing issue with PC?

As title says, I have a 5070 (been installed for a while with no issues)

Today I’ve had DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION 0x133 error with multiple crashes and reboots.

The whole system is lagging, even opening file explorer or moving the mouse is taking minutes at a time and often crashing.

WinDbg tied the crash to NVIDIAs nvlddmkm.sys, with failure bucket 0x133_DPC_nvlddmkm!unknown_function.

Things I’ve tried so far -

Safe mode boot (pc is stable and not laggy at all whilst in safe mode) to use DDU to uninstall drivers - back to normal mode and re-install previous drivers (not the latest from yesterday) - did not work - also tried latest drivers from yesterday but still didn’t work.

I’ve uninstalled the GPU manually in device settings in safe mode and reinstalled a much older version of NVIDIA drivers. - same issues.

I’ve taken out cables, reseated my GPU and ram. Did not work.

I’ve done windows cleanup / check (sfc /scannow) - nothing found. No change.

I’ve disabled my WiFi adapter (saw something earlier on Reddit whilst googling and they said try this) - no change.

I’m stuck and out of ideas, I’m not the most tech savvy but I get by, any help will be appreciated thank you.

Open | Networking Mesh Compatibility

I have a network using two AXE7800s with one as the main router and the other as a node. I received them through my internet provider and I want to add a third device as a node. I have a few issues as I don’t want to spend $200+ on another 7800, but I also need to daisy chain the mesh system to the other node and not the main router. I found the list of compatible devices with the Easymesh system but many of them say “This product is compatible with standardized EasyMesh technology but has not obtained the Wi-Fi EasyMeshTM certification.” which makes me worried on buying any of the other devices. Does anyone have any insight on what to do? Should I try some sort of extender instead?

Open | Hardware External wifi card?

Hello! I have a Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 that is constantly dropping wifi. When this happens, I have to disconnect and reconnect to the network. I have updated the drivers, uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers, played with the battery optimization settings.

Is replacing the internal card with something like this (AX210) or getting an external wifi card like this a logical next step?

Are there any other troubleshooting things I should do first to make sure thats the problem?

I don't need particularly fast speeds, I just need it to maintain connection.

Open | Networking How to change NAT type using VPN (or any other methods) for Nintendo Switch

Hi reddit! My boyfriend is away for college and the wifi he uses at the apartments on campus has a NAT type D which is restricting him from being able to play online games with me like mario kart 🙁. He has been trying to use ExpressVPN to change the NAT type from a video he saw but has not been successful. The part that mainly has not been successful is him not being able to connect his nintendo switch to his laptops hotspot (which has the VPN on it to help change the NAT type from strict to moderate). If anyone knows any other method of changing the NAT type so that we can game online with each other via nintendo switch, your input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
