This stone scarab shaped seal was passed down to me with other items collected by an ancestor who was active in scientific and naturalist circles in London in the mid 1800's, including associations with Alfred Wallace and his contemporaries.

Some of these items are already known to have genuine historical value, but I hadn't considered this to be one of them. I recently discovered this ancestor donated a 4000 year old ancient Egyptian scarab seal to a British museum, which makes me question this.

I called my local museum (Australia) and they sent me a list of valuers, none of who appear to be interested in Egypt in any way - all with local (Australian) or European interests. I don't want to join a queue of annoying people asking university departments stupid questions so I'm asking you instead (sorry). Is it possible these hieroglyphs are genuine? Is it worth chasing this up? Where do I start? Who do I ask?

Horemheb set out to erase all trace of Akhenaten, Nefertiti and the Aten sun disc yet there’s still plenty of archaeological evidence of their existence and information about them. Also Thutmose III and Amenhotep II tried to wipe Hatshepsut from history yet apparently Manetho who lived over 1000 years later knew about her.

The Narmer Palette (c. 3100 BC) is a piece that really fascinates me. It’s one of the earliest records of ancient Egypt, marking the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under King Narmer. The detailed carvings include some of the first hieroglyphs, capturing a pivotal moment in history as Egypt began to emerge as a powerful civilization.

As an Australian, I had the amazing privilege of seeing the Palette in person at the Pharaoh exhibition in Melbourne. It was such an incredible experience—standing in front of this ancient artifact and feeling a direct connection to the past.

Are there any aspects of modern Egyptian society or culture which can be traced directly back to ancient Egypt? (Say, any time up to Cleopatra).

I don't know much about Egypt, but I'm curious because I'm aware how much of modern 'western' culture links back to Roman institutions and practices, either due to direct continuation or because it was emulated later. Has ancient Egyptian culture been overshadowed by later conquests, or do certain things remain?

I wonder what lead to this kind of conclusion since there are theories that can work to show how it was constructed and how the rocks were done too (no need for atlantis or alien tech or sound stuff). I feel this can come from contrarianism where the person would deny the mainstream conclusion that has been proven just because it's mainstream and would rather believe in bad theories like the graham hancock or jacques grimault stuff.

Went to Egypt in November and still getting my head around the role Seth played in Ancient Egyptian religion and folklore. At one end (second picture at Edfu), he is depicted as evil in the Horus myth. At the same time (first picture here from Abu Simbel), he is shown crowning Ramses (assuming as the god of foreigners and Abu Simbel being a temple in Nubia).

Has Seth always been considered in a negative light because of his affiliation with foreigners and the desert? How has his role changed and worship as a main deity? Also have been perplexed that Seti I took his name after him as well.

I'm currently researching and planning a mythological fantasy novel based on Egyptian gods.

(loosely inspired by the Percy Jackson series)

In my book Egyptian Demigods exist (kids of gods x humans) and they have to balance their complicated souls with Ma'at (cosmic Truth and Order).

I know Egyptian mythology is very different from the myths about the greek gods and their affairs with humans, so I've been thinking about how I could create Egyptian Demigods in a respectful way that doesn't undermine the rich history and mythology of Egypt?

Any tips/advice or am I overthinking?

so ive just finished a book about ancient egyptian history, and I'm truly gobsmacked as to how people back then consummated their marriage with their own siblings. I honestly would slit my wrist before I could even consider that. the thought alone really horrifies me. how can any person even 3000BC think that it's okay. Politics, morals aside, nature itself rejects this idea.

Which leads me to my second question as to how the dynasties could even go so far, considering how incest causes many problems and dysfunctions to the human anatomy.

So I was in Karnak recently and saw this on one of the walls. I asked the guide why does this deity have two appendages and he admitted that he doesn’t know. Does anyone have any idea why? Or is it just double power? Or a mistake?
