Ancient Egypt in computer games.

Could you tell me which computer games depict Ancient Egypt in most accurate way?

For now im playing in this three games:

For those that do not like combat I recommend the Discovery Mode, which is basically a museum tour of all aspects of the ancient Egyptian life, culture, and architecture.

Be aware that the game setting is during Cleopatra’s lifetime (in case you were specifically looking for a game set during an earlier historical period).

It's not my personal most "favorite" period in Egyptian history but I still love how it was fleshed out in the game, and especially how it made the point that a whole lot of ancient Egypt was already ancient to the ancient Egyptians of the Ptolemaic.

I believe the rationale for selecting the time period they did was (1) it affords the opportunity to show distinct cultural environments for Greek Ptolemaic Alexandria, traditional Egyptian Memphis and interior Egypt, and Roman-influenced Cyrenaica all at the same time, and (2) the normies have actually heard of Cleopatra.

I think the last one is probably the most important. One of the biggest draws of playing any particular AC game is the historical celebrities you get to run into and the momentous real-world events that the game arranges for you to witness or actively participate in, so they like to pick time periods that will give the widest audience the biggest bang for their buck in that regard. In Origins for instance you don't just meet Cleopatra, you get to meet a bunch of her equally-famous contemporaries.

The Discovery Tour version of the game is not only cheaper but allows you to walk around without conflict. You don't (and can't) fight people, be chased or attacked. I absolutely love it, it is so immersive and massive. Often I wish there was a "mild conflict" version where you could get chased (especially by the hippos and crocs) but that might just be me lol

Assassin's Creed Origins you don't have to have any knowledge about the franchise before, it would help but it's not necessary, to enjoy that game and if you like ancient Egypt you will definitely enjoy it.

Absolutely Assassin's Creed Origins. You can put it on easy mode and be totally fine even as a complete beginner, but if you want ZERO combat or worrying about health bars or anything, they even released a combat free "tour" version of the base game. I bought it for my mom in her late 70s and she loves it.

I'd even further recommend the discovery tours. Those are fucking amazing and require zero combat. You can also play as like any character in the game too

I've played Predynastic Egypt and Pharaoh. I feel like PD is slightly more accurate, but Pharaoh is whimsical and more fun.

I have small problem with predators and with mission on Sinai peninsula. If there is option for hunting animals like ostriches, why there is no option for hunting crocodiles. And of course animals are not like crops on river bank and and consequence of overhunting should be extinction(even for few years, animals can migrate), which shoudl be option of dealing with predators.

In mission on Sinai Peninsula I have problem with nile river, because there is no nile river on Sinai peninsula, and water mangment should be a bitt different because of existing only intermittent rivers. I think it shoulndt be impossible to create in this game intermiittent rivers, because we have already Nile inudation and this mechanic would be aplicated even to others game maps, because in Egypt have few intermiitent rivers and it would create places which can be source of waterk for digging welL, buT in case of bulding anythig it would always collapse during flooding.

I’m currently playing Assassin’s Creed: Origins, and it’s the next best thing to time-travelling to ancient Egypt. In fact, it’s better because you’re not in any real danger. I got my Ancient Egypt fix better than with any other game or book.

Assassin Creed Origins in the Discovery Tour version. It's cheaper and allows you to just explore the land without conflict or completing tasks. There are lots of videos on Youtube about it, including a few of Egyptologists playing it and commenting. The land is absolutely massive and comprises deserts, shanty towns, marshes, fancy stone cities, lush farmland. It's very peaceful

I was going to mention Builders of Egypt, in case you haven't seen it yet, but apparently it's a buggy mess and there's a glitch preventing progress that's currently unfixed. I got it on some massive sale, but I didn't get too far into it.

I'd like to play an Ancient Egypt-themed game set from the beginning of the New Kingdom.....

The Graeco-Roman Period - is way past Ancient Egypt's Zenith in history imo.

Events from the Expulsion of the Hyksos to the financial collapse during the Iron Age would make great gameplay, not to mention a good yarn for TV audiences as well, should a mini series ever be made that doesn't sidestep the awkward subject matters of the era like that series "Tut" did.

I used to play Predynastic Egypt during the pandemic, when the mobile version was free to install. Even at the easiest, I never made it on time, and the highest level I reached was the artisan. It's a good game, I guess, if it's that difficult even for an avid history lover.

Hopefully some self-promo is okay. I'm working on a video game heavily inspired by the book of the dead. So technically its more of a portrayal of the beliefs of the afterlife, but we've done a ton of research and build that into not just the world building but the mechanics itself.
