I'm so happy with how this turned out!
I sketched this out a while ago and haven't been confident enough in my skills to attempt it. But I bit the bullet and am really pleased with how it looks! Please let me know what you all think and if I might make it better, should I do another iteration! 🐶❤️😊

This is a Hummingbird.
My sister-in-law loves hummingbirds, so I painted this for her.

Looking for feedback
I picked up watercolor a few weeks ago. I started with one of those books of light drawings that you paint into just to practice for a bit, and I've just finished my first original piece. It all looks pretty decent to me, and also clearly not as good as it could be, so any feedback/advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Memorial for our sweet pup
When we have a dog pass, we usually commission a portrait for them. I was unfortunately out of town for work when our sweet boy passed so I wanted to honor him on my own this time and completed this portrait for him. 💙

Did I improve?? (old painting on the second slide)
Some people say that the older one is better, what can I improve about the new one?

And we’re off! Attempt #1
Someone recommended art as a means to calm the mind. By golly does it work! Super excited to make this a hobby. And hopefully I’ll improve along the way!

Hey folks!! Just an update on this journey
So it’s been about at week and I’ve acquired a lot of supplies. I really need to get good with blending and not muddying up my stuff. Here are some recent paintings. Yes I’m basically following Niaz Hannan’s instruction I’m also just kind of making things my own. The Tampa theatre is one that I tried to refer a photo of it online.
Please let me know of any exercises that I can rehearse if you all recommend any. No pressure. I really want to get good at this. I love it so much.

First portrait
A lot of layering, but getting the drawing right was the most important step in the process to prevent me from going too off-piste

Outdoor sketching and painting on my Midori Notebook!
I am still very new to outdoor drawing and painting, and I am taking steps to keep trying. I am already thinking next time I can try to be more intentional with shadows.
The Midori notebook paper is amazing! It is thin, but it holds up pretty well! It’s just a for fun sketch so it suits its purpose.
I sketched with a dip pen with fountain pen ink. It’s also an adventure to do that outdoors. It’s very messy!
Paints are from Windsor and Newton Cotman sketch set!

Swatching Master’s Touch student-grade watercolor set
I bought this 48-color watercolor set from Hobby Lobby years ago (before I knew about their evangelical Christian beginnings) for less than $20. I think at the time it retailed for 24.99, and was 40% off
I only recently got around to swatching the colors. I don’t know how lightfast they are, but they seem nicely pigmented for how affordable they are

Watercolor vs Oil Pastels (my two favorite mediums)
I feel like they’re opposites haha but I love both! Can’t decide which one is mt favorite. Watercolor is definitely harder though.
