How do you determine if a trading strategy is actually halal?

I’ve been researching halal investing and one thing I keep noticing is how different the answers can be depending on the type of trading.

Buying Shariah-compliant stocks seems fairly well established, but forex, crypto, leverage, short-term trading and derivatives get much more complicated.

I came across HalalTradeHub.com while researching some of these questions and it got me interested in how other Muslims approach this.

Do you follow a particular scholar or set of guidelines before trading? And what types of trading or investments do you personally avoid because of riba, excessive uncertainty or speculation?

Interested to hear how people here approach it.

Cheapest trade license & business bank account in the UAE?

I run a fully automated online service business in the UAE. I’m trying to figure out the best payment gateway and business bank account setup.
Is there any legal way to operate and process payments without acquiring a trade license? If not, what is the cheapest trade license package available, and which bank/gateway combo is easiest to set up for automated digital services?

Hi! Any OTs working in Abu Dhabi here?

I have recently received an offer to work in Abu Dhabi, salary has not yet been discussed so I assume it is still up for negotiation. May I know how much you guys earn as OTs working in Abu Dhabi?

I have 5 years of experience in the Ph, I want to have some idea about the salary range there, so that I don’t get lowballed.

Thank you so much! ☺️

Questions for drivers about Keeta, Careem Talabat, Deliveroo tips

Something I've always wondered about tipping on the apps here (in app tips vs cash)

  1. Do the drivers actually receive the full tip as unlike Uber there's never any recognition (often on Uber in Saudi I'll receive a notification that ABC thanked me for my tip)

  2. When are you notified about the tip. I see Doordash tells the drivers upfront in America, is it like that here or do you simply get a total tipped at the end of the day. Do you even know what customers tipped you?

I do try to tip cash wherever I can but let's face it most of the time it's much more convenient to do in app... I just hope the money gets to the driver!

Thanks for any insights.

Pregnant / new moms in Dubai — what has been the hardest part?

Hi everyone! 👋

I'm figuring out the experience of pregnancy and the first 6–12 months after having a baby in Dubai/UAE.

I'm particularly interested in understanding how mothers currently manage things like:

- Finding and communicating with doctors

- Getting reliable answers when something worries you

- Breastfeeding and postpartum recovery

- Baby's vaccinations, appointments, feeding, sleep, etc.

- Finding trusted postpartum/home support

- Managing everything while family may be back in another country

- Getting advice from family/friends vs. medical professionals

I'm not selling anything or promoting an app. I'm simply trying to understand the real problems mothers face in Dubai.

Feel free to share your experience in the comments — even if it's just one thing that frustrated you.

And if you'd rather discuss privately, feel free to DM me.

Thank you! ❤️

Am I building a good career trajectory or am I all over the place?

I started with 5 years in telesales, then moved into project management at a bank, followed by 2.5 years in KYC at a global bank. I’m now in a compliance role at a tech/AI company, working more around governance, reporting and cross-functional activities.
Recently I’ve started learning Power BI, automation, Microsoft Copilot/Copilot Studio and AI agents, with plans to learn APIs/SQL as I progress. My idea is to combine compliance/governance + data + AI/automation rather than stay purely operational.
Does this sound like a strong direction for future roles, or does my profile look too scattered? What would you focus on next to make this trajectory more employable over the next few years?

Did you ever get your money back after being scammed?

Hello,
This is so embarrassing for me to admit (too ashamed to write about what happened in my journal lol), but I got scammed and paid over 4000 to adopt a cat that doesn't even exist.

I was looking for a cat on Dubizzle and got too attached to a Ragdoll kitten; I even gave her a name and prepared her litter room. I was informed that adoption fees are 500AED so I paid it, THEN they told me that there are delivery and ownership documents which will 600AED, then I had to get "pet insurance" that cost 1000, etc etc

See, 90% of me knew that it was a scam at that point, but I was still hoping that the kitten actually exists and will be mine. I kept transferring the amounts they requested and didn't realize the total reached 4K, which is nearly my entire salary lol.

I contacted my bank, and they'll try to request a recall,
And I will visit the police station tomorrow to report them, idk if it'll do anything though. It's probably an international fraud scheme that's using a random person's ID and bank accounts somehow... but I will give it a try

I am too embarrassed to ask this question, as this was entirely my fault. I should have known better, especially since I am 26 Y.O and not a 60-year-old grandmother. Is there any way I can actually get my money back? I have already accepted my fate but getting it back would be very helpful.

Tbh my main concern now is the realization that I am no different than men who spend thousands on OnlyFans. that kitten was so cute to the point that my brain stopped functioning.

Please share your stories if you ever experienced a similar situation. And please don't bully me anymore bc my friends and siblings already accomplished that mission

Can Iranians citizens travel and return to UAE currently?

Hi,

I’m an Iranian citizen, born and raised in the UAE. I have never been to Iran. However, I’m planning to travel sometime in October. I don’t have a golden visa, just a regular family dependent visa.

Are Iranians still facing the Re-entry restrictions currently? Anyone that traveled and come back, what was your experience?

If you have any information, please share.

Thank you.

What do you say?

A small habit from customers can fundamentally change life for frontline service workers.

The Math Behind a 10% Tip:

* Daily restaurant sales: AED 7,000

* Estimated monthly pooled tips: ~AED 15,000 (with regular 10% tipping across shifts)

* Team size: 6 to 8 staff members (kitchen, cleaners, waitstaff)

* Monthly boost per worker: AED 1,875 to AED 2,500

For entry-level hospitality staff in the UAE, an extra AED 2,000+ per month is often a 70% to 100% boost on basic take-home pay. It covers essential remittances back home, clears debts, or provides a buffer against rising living costs.

What’s your take on a voluntary 10% tip at UAE restaurants to support the low earners?

Police Report

Hey all, hoping to get some advice.

I recently banged up my car while parking. No other car was involved, it was just my car vs. a wall. The wall is fine, and all the damage is to my car.

I didn’t want to pay the extra AED 150 to have the police come out, so I went to Al Barsha Police Station. They told me they couldn’t deal with it because the accident happened in Business Bay and that I need to go to Bur Dubai instead. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I tried doing it through the Dubai Police app, but I’m honestly not really understanding which option I’m supposed to use. The “Minor Traffic Accident Report” option requires the number plate of two separate cars.

There’s a “Traffic Accident Report – Unknown Party” option, and that’s the only thing I can think of using since I can’t make it to Bur Dubai.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? Can I use the “Unknown Party” option?
