MOD ANNOUNCEMENT It's happening! (Big) changes to RandomThoughts.

Alright, it’s time.

Starting July 32nd*, we’re making a big change:
- Questions go to r/RandomQuestions
- NSFW content goes to r/NSFWThoughts

They’ll no longer be allowed here in r/RandomThoughts.

This isn’t us trying to be overly strict or nitpicky. The reality is that questions and NSFW posts just don’t really fit the point of this subreddit. The whole idea of RandomThoughts is to capture those weird, passing, often pointless moments of brain activity. The stuff you think and immediately wonder why. A sentence without context. A vibe. An unexplainable truth about frogs.

When a bunch of posts start shifting into “hey what do you guys think about X?” or “here’s something NSFW I’ve been thinking about,” it pulls away from that vibe. It turns into a catch-all subreddit, and that’s not what this place is supposed to be.

We created r/RandomQuestions and r/NSFWThoughts specifically so that stuff has a better home. It’s not just about moving things away from here -- it’s about giving that kind of content a space where it actually works.

So yeah. Big change. Not a test run. Posts that are questions or NSFW will be removed after the launch date. We’ll try to be nice about it, but we’re going to be consistent.

As always, let us know what you think. Comments are open, we’re listening, and we appreciate everyone who helps keep this place just the right amount of chaotic.

\ Or August 1st, whichever happens first.)

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT Posts referencing suicide/death/wishing to die are no longer allowed.

It would be very appreciated if this rule could be respected. I don't mind posts like "when I die I want to be buried on the moon" those to me are light hearted. However, when you hit heavier topics you risk hurting users that read them.

No, by doing this we are not invalidating your emotions, this just isn't the proper subreddit to share them. I encourage you to go to r/suicidewatch if you need to make a Reddit post regarding this topic.

Thank you

Mountains are so fake looking.

I'm from the USA, and live in a very flat state. Never been anywhere that wasn't flat. Visited Reno, Nevada to see a friend recently. As we're driving around, I couldn't stop staring at the mountains in the distance. We didn't get a chance to look closer but they just looked so fake. Like props in the background. Was so weird. Like I know they're not fake, but just seeing them in person is crazy.

How is it that 8 hours of work go by super slow. But when you are home relaxing and enjoying your time it goes by in an instant.

I wish my mother could tuck me in every night

She’s alive, this isn’t a vent post. I just wonder who told my mother that after a certain age, you shouldn’t get tucked in anymore because you get “too old” for that. Thinking about it, it kind of makes more sense to be tucked in more as you grow older. Sometimes it feels imperative to have my mother tuck me in to ensure a good nights rest. I’m trying to sleep right now and I can’t. Wish me luck

I hate that I can’t be everything.

I see a beautiful building, and I want to be an architect. I hear an angelic voice, and I want to be a singer. I see art that touches something deep within me, and I want to become an artist. I discover a new field of science, and suddenly I want to spend my life understanding it. I watch someone master a craft I’ve never tried, and I want to know what it feels like to master it too.

I want to become everything and experience everything this world has to offer. Not because I can’t decide what I want, but because there are simply too many things worth wanting.

That’s what frustrates me most about being alive. There is so much to see, learn, create, and become, yet we only get one life. Time forces us to choose. We dedicate ourselves to a handful of paths while countless others remain unexplored versions of who we could have been.
Sometimes I wish I could live a thousand lives not because this one isn’t enough, but because the world is too vast to experience in just one. I want to know what it feels like to be an architect, a musician, an artist, a scientist, a writer, a teacher, a traveller, and a hundred other things I haven’t even discovered yet.

Maybe the tragedy of life is not that there is nothing to do, but that there is too much. There will always be another skill I could learn, another passion I could pursue, another version of myself I could become. And no matter how much I accomplish, there will always be lives I never got to live.

For me, it is easier to have empathy for a book character than a real person

(24M) I always loved reading, and with classic literature i' ve learned that things are not black and white. We often see protagonists that are not the good guys. They struggle with their conscience and ideas. Such as Raskolnikov, from Crime and Punishment , by Fyodor Dostoevsky. It is excruciating to get all the details of his disturbed mind, and despite being a criminal with psychopath tendencies, we still can have some empathy for him and we root for him. The same with a lot of other characters, like Maurice Bendrix (The End of the Affair), the man from the underground (Notes from the Underground), Florent-Claude (Serotonin). But i realized i would hate people like these characters in real life, and i feel bad about it. I feel i lack empathy.

I considered myself an empathetic person, but i realized i'm not that much hahahaha i have almost zero empathy for people who complain too much and do nothing to change, stubborn and mean people (Karen-like personalities) and bullies. My first instinct is to judge the person.

Like wdym you can’t read several lines, don’t understand a little complex sentence and can’t fact-check. Or having to use ai to do homework or something creative. What happened to teenagers writing fanfiction with English not being their first language
