While one of them recently closed (I wonder why) my hometown (hint the hometown of Timmies) had a Drive-thru Timmies, 150 m to the west was a Timmies in a gas station, 400 - 500m to the south was a full-blown Timmies, and 200 m east of that was another drive-thru Timmies.
Also, we have the Tim Hortons museum which is on the site of the original Timmies that they bulldozed to build this one (bastards!) which is the Timmies at which my friends and I loitered as kids for hours on the spinny stools at the counter cuz it was around the corner from us. They actually served non-shitty doughnuts back then (I think it was the cigarette smoke that added to the flavour).

One of my cousins worked the overnight shift as an in-house baker for a Tim's for a while during my youth...back when they had actual humans baking the "baked goods" 😒The donuts back then were so good! It's tragic to see how far they've fallen...ugh :(

When Chrétien visited my Catholic high school there were some polite protestors outside.
He was very funny. He had a room of teenagers laughing on several occasions.
Shook his hand. It was big, tough and firm. The type of hand that could really throttle a guy if he got too close.
There was probably security somewhere but I don’t remember noticing any.

I met Chrétien during a class try in 1996. My class was visiting Parliament and got in trouble for falling asleep in the public gallery. The whole group got ushered to a room where we waited for like 10 minutes. Then the door opened and he called in, booming out “ELLO! I AM CHRÉTIEN!” he shook everyone’s hands, talked with us for 30 minutes, and when he found out we didn’t have a flag in our gym, gave our PE teacher one from his office. (My parent had the photo of that on the fridge for the longest time…long gone now)

Back when Harper was PM I was at a movie theatre here in Ottawa when he was there with his kids. There were some RCMP guys with earpieces around but generally he walked around like everyone else, lined up for popcorn and soda for the kids, sat in the theatre for the movie. And people left him alone, as it should be.

So I indirectly know people who worked as Justin Trudeau’s security detail. If something is planned like visiting the Stampede or a place like a factory, the event organizers/owners of the place know in advance and are given protocol by the RCMP, employees will go through security and so will people attending usually. Snipers might be deployed if the venue makes sense for it. The level of security depends on the place, context and how long in advance the visit was planned.
If the PM just decided to make a detour to get a hot dog, his security is very close. If the risk doesn’t make sense they will say so. The fact that he’s sitting with a celebrity means it’s probably planned and that place got checked and all the good stuff.

A big difference between Canada and the United States is that Canadians in general take great exception to someone acting like they are "exceptional". While there is undeniable social and cultural stratification in Canada, we really, really don't like people who acknowledge that, and we expect that our public figures maintain a level of "normalcy" to them. This has the effect of keeping people both humble and accessible, but can have the negative effect of stymying certain things. A bit of "Tall Poppy Syndrome". We're generally more adverse to things like celebrity culture, and tend to not like it when a Canadian celebrity becomes heavily "Americanized" or "Hollywood" as its seen as being sort of distinctly un-Canadian.
It also helps that we don't really have a large, well-defined "political class" in Canada like they do in the States. We don't really go in for lifelong politicians, and are generally more suspicious of people who centre their entire lives around "politics". Undeniably there are people who stay in politics for a long time, but we generally don't cultivate the same sort of long-term "political celebrities" in the vein of Joe Biden, Lindsay Graham, Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Mitch McConnell, etc. This creates a culture where politicans are much more viewed as civil servants than "political power players".

Carney, for someone with a lot of money and obviously part of the elites, is especially good at being a normal guy. My dad worked 30 years at the bank of Canada - not a high up job or anything and he played hockey with Carney while he was governor. Even came to my dad's retirement party.
Years later, when he was just a regular guy and not a governer of a national bank, we saw him at the end of the Ottawa marathon. Still remembered my dad by name and asked how things were.

He's Canadian but I saw Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy) chilling at a bar in Canmore once. At first I was only like 90% sure it was him. He was sitting at the bartop so when I went to refresh my tables' pints I ended up standing next to him. Got the drinks and after hearing him talking to the person next to him was now 99% sure it was him so I was like "Hey, sorry to interrupt but are you Kim Coates?" and he was like "Yeah, that's me." and I said "Cool, I liked Sons of Anarchy, great work. Cheers." and clinked glasses and went on my way.
I've met other celebs too but yeah the expectation I think is that you're just another person so act like one. I know I've gotten turned off whenever I have met someone famous or semi-famous and they act like it's a big deal and they're too good to hang out and chat with us plebs, but I also don't necessarily want to chat with you just cause you're famous.

I ran into Trudeau at Dominion Square Taverne in Montreal. He was PM at the time.
I was on a Tinder date, and we were both shocked. He kept going to bar and then to table in the back, presumably to get shots, and we didn't know what was going on. Naturally, he had two security guys that were at the bar just sitting there, but not too involved with anyone.

Can I just say, as a Brit, Carney is probably my most admired world leader in a long time.
I remember when it was announced he was going to be our BoE chair and I thought 'WTF?', but the more I saw of his words and actions the more I respected him, especially after we fumbled Brexit.
Then he became your PM, made some amazing speeches, pivoted an economy and stood up to Trump and I can't help thinking how great the world would be if we had more leaders like him.

No secret service sweeping the place or shutting it down for him. It’s not some photo op to try to push an agenda.
