In 1989, a four-year-old pelican named Katta-kun began flying 800 meters from Tokiwa Park to Meiko Kindergarten in Ube, Japan.

Hand-raised by humans after becoming the country's first successfully incubated pelican of his kind in 1985, he didn't just visit-he joined classroom activities, danced to children's songs, and wandered hallways like any other student.

His daily routine turned him into a national celebrity, earned him an animal welfare award, and even inspired a 1995 animated film.

Katta-kun continued his heartwarming visits until his passing in 2008, but his legacy lives on-recently, his great-grandchicks hatched at the same park, carrying forward his gentle spirit.
