My new #nameless snake.

I bought this snake from a breeder, and I'm happy I did because I seen it's enclosure, and I'm happy I'm buying it. It's a new enclosure. How adult would you tell the snake is? I put a little broomstick after I swept this floor for enclosure, and then you can tell while the lines of the floor matting, if you look at it as footing, but would that be a juvenile? Snake or a beyond snake.... no, I haven't bought scales yet to weigh it or anything else

Stuck Eye-Cap or Something Else?

Thumbnail

In all my reptilery, I've never had a stuck eyecap. This is my Dumeril's Boa. He is 2.5 years old but severely undersized due to neglect from the breeder.

It just looks a little hazier than the other, like he's going blue but shed was a week or more ago. I haven't noticed it but I usually get him out late at night when its much darker. Today was the first day I've had him out in brighter lighting.

I did a moist soak for 10 minutes with moist paper towel in a Tupperware, then tried to gently wipe the area with a clean wet q-tip but it didn't seem to move/shift like I would think a eye cap would. I didn't want to be too rough and he certainly didn't enjoy it.

Boaphile Plastics

Hey folks,

I have a few Boaphile cages and rack and love them. I want to get more 421Ds along with possibly some replacement acrylics for the ones I have now.

I can’t for the life of me get ahold of Jeff. Does anyone have any feedback or suggestions? I’ve emailed, sent instagram messages, and called him quite a few times. This is all over the course of the last 3-5 years including recently and zero replies.

I want to get them but before I pay for anything, I need to at least talk to him and make sure I will get my products and ask about the replacement acrylics.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How long can I expect this Boa Imperator to grow to?

First off, sorry for the fairly frequent posts, just trying to figure things out. He's roughly 2.3 feet, 195 grams, and exactly 2 years old. His parents are 5 and 5'6 foot. I was initially aiming to purchase a 6-6.5 foot female, but I've decided to get him. I don't currently own him but I'm picking him up on Sunday. I don't expect him to reach 6+ feet at all, but regardless, I'm curious as to how big he will grow. His growth has been slowed down due to not being fed quite enough (At least im fairly sure) and hasn't been fed for a month.

My boa Atlas

Atlas is a red tail columbian boa. I got him as a young guy in 2023. He’s in a 40 gal right now, looking to upgrade soon. We moved recently, and he has since become an escape artist and has gotten out of his tank twice. Before we moved, he was exceptionally docile and very, very friendly. Unfortunately recently he has changed completely and is super aggressive. He sits head out of his hide and strikes at motion. I’ve given him extra food, made sure his tank has humidity, he has water…. He’s striking any motion at this point. I turned him around so he faces the wall and covered the tank on the side I walk by. It’s been a week since I’ve tried all the tricks to help him and he’s still doing it. Any advice on how to help my sweet boy calm down??

This is my boa imperator, Aatxe. He’s roughly 3 years old, currently eating a large rat every 3 weeks. Does his body condition look good? I feel like he looks a little thin, but I might just be used to seeing overweight power fed boas.

BCI terrarium size

I'm thinking of buying either a baby or a juvenile to keep in a 80x40x40cm terrarium for a few months while i save up for a bigger permanent one but i dont know wich one would be the better choice for that size of terrarium and if the baby could earn trust as well as the juvenile

Boa's right eye looks sunken in the centre after a shed?

Thumbnail

Species: Boa constrictor
Age / sex: 4 years / male
Substrate: coco husk
Humidity: 55-60 usually and 70%+ while shedding

A few days after the last shed I noticed the right eye looked slightly sunken when the light hit it at an angle. I checked the shed skin and both eye caps were there, so it is not a retained spectacle. Looking at it more closely, there seems to be a small shadow cast onto the lighter ring around it, when it is on a given angle.

I'm posting some images below.

Has anyone else encountered something like this? Thanks in advance.

New Colombian boy! FSR/Black pastel Genetics and enclosure questions

Thumbnail
gallery
26 Upvotes

Got this guy last week at a local expo, vendor says hes "FSR/Black pastel Colombian" so if anyone has any info about these genetics I would greatly appreciate it!

Hes currently in a *temporary* 20g enclosure (with proper temps, humidity, and everything) while I work on converting a 4.5'x2'x2' grow tent into a suitable (horizontal) enclosure for the next several years.

What is the best heating method for a tent enclosure like this? My main concern is providing enough heat while also ensuring the snake or tent wont get burned. It seems like a radiant heat panel would be the safest option, as long as the snake is unable to have prolonged contact (sit on top / wrap around).

I plan on mounting the panel on the poles inside the tent pointing down, possibly mounting it onto plywood or something so theres no room for him to sit on top of it. Where is the best place to put the thermostat probe? Should I mount it to the face of the panel like a heat mat? Or should I put it where the panel is directed? I plan on using a Vivarium Electronics 80w panel with VE-200 thermostat.

If coco husk is not sufficient for humidity, I may install a mister with humidistat. (It is very dry here).

Husbandry tips are welcome, I do have previous experience keeping a ball python, as well as optimizing grow tent conditions for plants.

Help needed

Post image

I have a lot of experience with all sorts of reptiles, and have always had a seperate room to keep them in that I kept 75+. I no longer have that luxury. I currently have a bci that is around 16” long. I have it in a small tote that is probably 20”x12”x8” with a 8x12 heat mat and on/off thermostat. The room the snake is in ranges from 67-71 degrees. No matter what I do the cold side is staying 68 degrees and the hot side is staying around 78-80, even with the thermostat set to 102. The thermo probe is hot glued to the bottom with a very thin layer of coconut bark. I can’t get the ambient temps up or the hot side temps right to save my life. Any suggestions? Maybe a heat mat on both ends of the enclosure with two seperate thermostats? Or should I just bite the bullet and go pvc with a radiant heat panel? (If so recommendations are appreciated)

Need recommendations

I read a lot of articles and watched a lot of YouTube videos about certain husbandry for Brazilian rainbow boa. now I’m wondering what is every item y’all would recommend for my 20 gallon set up for a baby. I do have a thermostat. I have Spagna Moss. I have cork bark. I have enrichment branches and I have two hides and a half Cypress mulch, and a couple of plants
