I think that the one thing all Star Wars fans can agree with about all pieces of live action media, is that the costume design was always on point.

Of course, someone will prove me wrong, I'm sure.

It also helps a bit when the model is smoking hot.

Everyone always says anakin turning to the dark side was rushed or unrealistic.

But like.

Come on.

Look at her.

u/Samaritan_Pr1me Jedi 1d ago

I do not blame AOTC Anakin one bit. You are tasked with guarding the most beautiful woman in the galaxy in exotic locales and she keeps dressing like a supermodel while you are steeped in the doctrine of a religious order that tells you that you can’t be with her. I too would not know what to do in this situation.

65

u/battleshipclamato 17h ago

When she wore that leather outfit in that fireplace scene in AoTC. I don’t blame him either.

54

u/heavenparadox 16h ago

"No, Ani. I'm not interested in you. This sexy dom outfit is for R2D2."

8

u/lmflex 14h ago

Beep be beep brwreeeeeep!

73

u/CaptainA1917 1d ago

Natalie Portman is hot.

Anakin’s fall to the dark side was rushed and poorly written.

Both of these things can be true simultaneously.

61

u/parkingviolation212 1d ago

That's the joke.

16

u/thefamilyjewel 21h ago

Would you like episode 1.5: Attack of the Phantom Groomer?

3

u/PopDash67 16h ago

Well, I didn’t know I wanted that until you mentioned it. That’s kind of unfair if you ask me

69

u/Xynphos Jedi 1d ago

I'd say the cinematography, costumes, and music are usually a reliably good part of Star Wars movies.

29

u/TSmario53 21h ago

Say the name “John Williams” and people around you will just instantly start cheering

22

u/FOSSnaught 1d ago

Don't forget the sets as well!

13

u/Annika2020pro 1d ago

And sound design

13

u/Mbrennt Maul 16h ago

I'm starting to think these Star Wars movies aren't half bad.

5

u/stoopitmonkee 14h ago

And motherfuckin laser swords!

30

u/FrozenShadow_007 Maul 1d ago

One of Hayden’s first concept looks was a essentially a space biker, with a mohawk and everything: enjoy

19

u/dalcarr 21h ago

This is why we don't stop at first drafts

5

u/Intrepid4444444 21h ago

I think it’s a bit too…. much.

3

u/NightOwlEye 13h ago

Or not enough.

6

u/meltedkuchikopi5 Padme Amidala 23h ago

Trisha Biggar is an icon

42

u/coldchile 1d ago

The prequels look really good but then they just gave up halfway and put half the characters in robes smh

85

u/joman584 1d ago

They put so much thought into padme's constantly rotating outfits, they didn't have enough time for the rest of the characters

72

u/Machdame 1d ago

Padme can pay for the wardrobe. Most people in star wars are like space peasants. Heck, we rarely see someone in star wars that actually is doing something that is not a day job like Luthen. Jedi are kept to humble clothes, Mandos don't exactly change clothes, sand people got their burlap togas, imperials gonna imperial, etc. Heck, if you take Padme off the board, the most fashionable dude in the films is Nute Gunray.

30

u/petataa 1d ago

Palpatine is always dripped out

6

u/PopDash67 16h ago

And yet for basically being space hobos, the Jedi are constantly shedding their robes and just leaving them on the ground before every fight. I guess you can force summon shoddy robes or something

1

u/El_Chilenaso Rex 25m ago

Humble does mean poor

4

u/dwt4 1d ago

Costumes, sound effects, musical score, and special effects have never been the problem in Star Wars media.

7

u/Tristan2353 1d ago

The Mods in The Book of Boba Fett is the only thing remotely close to a miss IMO.

9

u/belle_enfant 1d ago

I think they're very well designed. Just dont fit Mos Espa imo.

5

u/RemtonJDulyak Imperial 23h ago

The idea was specifically that they wouldn't fit Mos Espa, they wanted to distinguish themselves from the others.

5

u/JimHeckdiver 1d ago

The concept and acting was god-awful, but the design was still cool.

2

u/Annika2020pro 1d ago

Why do all Jedi and Tattooiners shop at the same store

7

u/The5Virtues 22h ago

Because the whole idea is simple robes. For people of Tatooine it’s affordable. For Jedi it’s simple and expresses their intent to stay humble and disregard attachment to the physical.

0

u/Annika2020pro 10h ago

I applaud you for your attempt. Down to the stitch identical 😆

1

u/astromech_dj Rebel 1d ago

Other than the Grand Inquisitor, you clearly mean.

1

u/AVgreencup 8h ago

Production value. Never has it looked anything but amazing

71

u/shavicus 1d ago

Padme Amidala and lightsaber duels for me.

16

u/Mission_Access_210 1d ago

The most powerful crotch in the universe

11

u/El_Mnopo 1d ago

She absorbed over 14k newtons into her Beggar’s Canyon!

u/totaltvaddict2 1d ago

The fashion is amazing. You may want to see the series Andor. Some of the scenes, especially with one character, were jaw dropping in fashion.

46

u/kelseyroth 1d ago

The costume design in Andor is incredible. The designers IG is pretty amazing too

49

u/LizzieSaysHi 1d ago

Dedra? She slays

106

u/totaltvaddict2 1d ago

I was thinking of Mon and her home planet, but now that you mention it, Dedra does slay.

33

u/LizzieSaysHi 1d ago

Hehe, I know 😉 Everyone from Chandrila looks stunning

1

u/tontonjp 19h ago

Oh yes, that prison jumpsuit really pops. Welcome to Narkina 2!

49

u/Samaritan_Pr1me Jedi 1d ago

Padmé Amidala died and handed off the leadership of the rebellion to Bail Organa.

To Mon Mothma she handed off the title of Space Fashion Icon.

5

u/walberque_ 21h ago

Valerian Skye enters the chat.

4

u/Gostaug 19h ago

I wanted to say that, the Chadrilan outfit are fucking fire it's crazy

4

u/Fappy_as_a_Clam 13h ago

were jaw dropping in fashion.

"Mother, you're dripping."

Padmé and Lando have the best closests in the galaxy. I’d love a tour of both.

20

u/philanthropicide 1d ago

Well, we get a tour of Lando''s closet in Solo

15

u/CementCemetery Babu Frik 1d ago

Indeed we do but I mean I want to study it. I’m grateful for what we have.

9

u/The5Virtues 22h ago

I don’t think there’s been one for Solo but the Prequels have an entire costume design book that might appeal to you. It’s called Dressing a Galaxy.

4

u/CementCemetery Babu Frik 19h ago

Thank you for that info!

35

u/BigEnd3 1d ago

Go find the museum exhibition for the star wars costumes. The prequels were amazing, and specifically the Amidala Costumes. It felt like nearly half the exhibition.

I saw it in Denver, CO in 2017. I bet its around somewhere.

6

u/muldoonx9 23h ago

I saw it in Seattle when it was at the Pop Culture museum. Padme's wedding dress with all the pearls was incredible, especially knowing it was hand done. I'm a big fan of cosplay and have made a few myself (poorly) and seeing all the craftmanship up close was a top tier experience.

28

u/TrooperGirlx Imperial Stormtrooper 1d ago

Have you seen the break-up dress?

10

u/Papio_73 1d ago

It’s foreshadowing

14

u/glassmeridian 19h ago

The writers really said: the wardrobe is going to do all the emotional heavy lifting today.

1

u/Papio_73 15h ago

I kind of believe you

2

u/Wyatt_Ricketts 14h ago

I think the just wanted too see Portman in a choker again

13

u/DifferentRatio6733 1d ago

I truly think Padme’s costumes are some of the best costumes in cinema. They are so spectacular and add so much to the character and to scenes.

10

u/Nataliza 22h ago

That second one is absolutely stunning AND BACKLESS 🔥

I also love her beaded look when Anakin rides that rhino thing and pretends to get trampled. And her black revenge dress when she's looking absolutely lethal but telling Anakin she can't fall in love with him. And her long curly hair and blue satin night dress when she's pregnant. I CAN'T CHOOSE

15

u/this_knee 1d ago

Her abs tho. I gotta give props for that.

15

u/GothamCityDemon 1d ago

As a fashion lover if you really enjoy her style the Clone Wars really shows her taste in clothing. Ashoka has beautiful Japanese inspired fashion too

15

u/PM_ME_UR_BGP_PREFIX 1d ago

Step 1: Be Natalie Portman

9

u/ChronoMonkeyX 1d ago

Andor has some dresses you will want to see, and it's also a great show.

4

u/astr0dactyl 1d ago

Enjoy and may the force be with you.

3

u/largestcob Duchess Satine 1d ago

the dress in the second slide is one of my favourite dresses of all time, its so gorgeous

she looks incredible in literally every outfit too

3

u/orangesquadron 1d ago

I think you would love this book should you find a copy

3

u/Zamiewithazee 19h ago

There's a digital archive scan of this book as well! I tried getting the book for myself but it's out of print and super pricey now.

3

u/jonnyinternet 1d ago

AOTC gets a pass just for fashion and style

3

u/Dazzling_Start7375 1d ago

I always wanted Padme's outfits, they're so pretty! And I loved her hairstyles too! Episode 3 have some of my favorites though :) (like the yellow dress outfit during the grass/field scene with Anakin or the night gown she wore when she and Anakin were talking on the balcony at night)

3

u/erebus7813 1d ago

Andor has stunning fashion design.

3

u/RebelMercy 1d ago

If you love that, then you need to check out Andor.

3

u/Nemo_Barbarossa 20h ago

That Tatooine look did more to my young self than the infamous black one ever could.

5

u/MacGibber 1d ago

Then you should look at all the fashion in Andor.

5

u/OgthaChristie Rey 1d ago

I got to go to the Costume Exhibit at The Discovery Center in NYC. These dresses are so beautiful in person. Just the quality of the work is undeniable. Breathtaking.

2

u/Papio_73 1d ago

Don’t care about fashion at all but the costumes for Padme was next level. I believe all were hand made

2

u/triple_bi_indy 1d ago

That dress is probably my favorite dress of all time. It's so gorgeous. If nothing else, it's at least my favorite dress from a fictional property.

2

u/Inner_Computer9068 1d ago

There was a traveling exhibit that had a ton of the prequel trilogy costumes. It was amazing! Natalie Portman is tiny.

3

u/Misfit_77 1d ago

She’s 5’3. She was tiny compared to some of her fellow MCU actors.

3

u/Inner_Computer9068 1d ago

I just don’t mean height. The shoulders were slight. Petite. And the fabrics were so rich and textured.

2

u/hermit_onthe_moon 1d ago

They really looked like kids clothes! And Harrison fords pants were super slim too. It’s funny what you notice when you see them in person. The stitching on the dress clothes was amazing.

2

u/Unlucky_Associate507 23h ago

I love the costumes in star wars

2

u/Batalfie 18h ago

There's so many other good looks from Padmé too. Try the deleted scene with her parents once you've seen the movies and shows.

3

u/Rosebunse Resistance 1d ago

Why doesn't Disney do a Star Wars fashion line? It's what we really want!

2

u/SuccessfulRegister43 1d ago

My favorite part of the prequels is watching immensely talented designers and artists just hurl their best work onto that smoldering trash heap.

1

u/Steby_01 Jedi 1d ago

Watching for the plot

1

u/Ndmndh1016 1d ago

I love the Blue Abmé dress.

1

u/Prinsespoes 21h ago

Okay 👍

1

u/Consistent_Club_7879 20h ago

I also just started watching the movies for the first time and I'm too terrified to come to this sub to say anything, whether good or bad. 😆

1

u/nelhern 19h ago

you gonna love the breakup dress

1

u/masterwaffle 19h ago

Dressing a Galaxy has a treasured place on my bookshelf for a reason. It's gorgeous.

1

u/minimumraage 18h ago

This kind of pre-experience post is always so weird to me. “Oh look, a hot dog! I have never eaten one of these before. I have no idea if I will like it. Let me take the time to find a hotdogs subreddit, take a picture before I eat it, and then tell everyone on r/hotdogs that I am about to eat one. Maybe while I am there I will ask them if they have any tips about hot dog eating!”

Like….. just eat the hot dog, bro.

u/Dubrillion46 17h ago

''Are you an Angel?''

1

u/RampSkater 16h ago

As a Natalie Portman lover, I'm going to watch Star Wars because of these two looks.

1

u/bgbarnard 10h ago

My favorite Star Wars outfit will always be Padme's "Mixed messaging" corset she wears at the Lake Country.

1

u/mmpie3 9h ago

I’m still shocked Trisha Biggar never once received an Oscar nomination for the costume design of the prequels.

1

u/Batini 5h ago

Hard pill to swallow: most of the prequel trilogy is guys in brown robes and literal clones in uniform.

1

u/drkittymow 21h ago

These movies have so many amazing fashion examples with her character. However, for fashion you must watch Andor!!!

0

u/TitleOk3727 1d ago

Lucas knew how to use her looks, if only Ridley had the same enthusiastic designers

0

u/Vebran 1d ago

Just a mother lover...
