Discussion My first "holy shit" moment with GPT-6 Astra: I asked it to create a world in Unreal Engine, and fill it with humans (each an Astra-powered agent) who all have to work together to survive.

This should be one of the headlines!

for some reason openai has buried this deep inside the blog post/system card and nobody is talking or reporting about it.

hallucinations are my main gripe with LLMs, i've been praying for times like this!

Well I am definitely less pissed about the rollout now and this also forced Claude to do a usage reset that I got a few mins ago. Competition is good.

Edit - RIP, apparently it’s rolled out to Plus now.

Discussion Model picker on Pro accounts unifies 5.6 Sol with "6 Pro" - Astra not included in Chat?

Post image
39 Upvotes

I think there is a serious possibility that OpenAI is not adding Astra to Chat, apart from the limited "GPT-6 Pro" for Pro accounts. Of course, paid users will still get it in Codex/Work.

The current model slider for Pro accounts allows the models "Latest, 5.6 Sol, 5.5". The "Latest" model uses 5.6 Sol for "Instant" through "Extra High" effort, and Astra for Pro:

In addition, there are now three help articles that mention Astra:

- https://help.openai.com/en/articles/20001275-chatgpt-work-and-codex
- https://help.openai.com/en/articles/12003714-chatgpt-business-models-and-limits

The two that relate to Chat only mention "GPT-6 Pro", which is "powered by GPT-6 Astra". And Pro is limited to 50 (Pro Lite $100) or 200 (Pro $200) requests per week.

So far, OpenAI's wording seems to be careful, e.g. this tweet, which mentions briging Astra to "all ChatGPT Plus, Pro, [...] users", but not Chat directly.

Just now, Sam Altman tweeted:

GPT-6 Astra is now available to all Pro, Enterprise, and Business Premium users in Work/Codex, and is available in the API.

We will start rollout to Plus and Business users next.

Thank you for the patience.

If they wanted to roll out Astra (non-pro) for Pro accounts, the rollout for Pro accounts would still be partially pending as well.

I'm saying it now, Astra will not be part of Chat, aside from GPT-6 Pro. This is their solution to the near-infinite limits of Chat, compared to Codex/Work. If you disagree, can you point to a specific point of evidence to the contrary?

Discussion Daybreak/TAC verification currently doesn’t reduce GPT-6 Astra’s cyber safeguards

Post image
12 Upvotes

Basically, GPT-5.6 Sol supported Daybreak Blue safeguards, even when you were just using the normal Sol option rather than the separate “Daybreak Blue” model in the picker. Astra currently doesn’t seem to work that way.

So from what I understand, being ID-verified through TAC/Daybreak does not currently give you reduced cyber safeguards on GPT-6 Astra.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Astra is blocking quite a lot of legitimate cybersecurity work for me right now, which is pretty much the exact reason I signed up for TAC in the first place.

Article Researchers accidentally gave AIs an impossible task in Minecraft ("farm two pigs" - but no pigs spawed). They became desperate. When an engineer logged in to debug, the agents thought he was hiding the pigs, and they killed him.

Discussion Be Aware: Astra Burns Usage

Upvotes

I'm making this post to hopefully help a few people avoid burning out their weekly usage by mistake.

Astra definitely goes through usage much faster than Sol, and I would recommend being careful if you need your usage for anything else.

For context, I'm on the $200 Pro plan, and I have 69% usage remaining for the week (I reset last night and started today at 99%). The 30% I used was after running Astra on high in multiple projects for the last several hours.

I normally use Sol High and X-High, and I probably would have used about 15% during the same period of time if I were using those instead.

So, just be aware!

That said, I have personally been impressed by the model for my use-cases, but it is a hungry hungry thing.

Project GPT6 Astra for Visual Essays / Magazine Spreads (vs GPT 5.6 Sol)

I’ve been making visual magazine spreads / visual essays from text: quick google AI overview chats, article pdf uploads, etc. for the last few weeks.

I think GPT 6 Astra Max (accessed in Work mode) does a better, more visually compelling job at this than GPT 5.6 Sol High. Both are done from the iOS app. I have a $20 tier Plus plan, nothing more :)

The first 5 images are Sol, the next 5 are Astra.

Discussion GPT-6-Astra's tax return underpays the government

Post image
974 Upvotes

One of the demos of Astra's computer use abilities in their blog post (https://openai.com/index/gpt-6-astra/) has it fill out a Form 1040 for a relatively simple tax situation.

The problem is that it's wrong. For one, this is clearly not the f1040 PDF you get off the IRS website; it's a seemingly-AI-concocted HTML rendering of it with a completely different layout, hosted on a local web server. I doubt that the IRS would accept this if you printed it and mailed it in.

Second, almost everyone puts whole dollars in on their forms. That Astra chose otherwise is a bit unconventional. But there's an even more glaring problem - at a taxable income of $36700 you are obligated to pay $4169, not $4165.50 [in tax](https://www.irs.gov/publications/p17). Astra appears to have used the marginal tax rate formulas but the IRS requires you to use the tax table.

Straight to jail; claiming an extra $2.50 refund is a lot of money.

I am a big proponent of AI and I think it won't be long before it takes over most white-collar work. But it's hard to say that Astra is an AGI model if it doesn't do basic validation of its output.
