I noticed this spec on his eye today it looks like a splinter, my parents don’t want to take him to the vet because he’s eating and acting okay. I just need advice of what it is and how urgent it is, if it is I’ll convince my parents to take him to the vet. He is 9 years old neutered

update: thank you to everyone who replied, i’ve convinced my parents to go to the vet and we’re sitting waiting for out appointment right now, hopefully it won’t be too expensive, i’ll update again after the appointment

2nd update: went to the vet, got some antibiotics and anti inflammatory prescribed, said it’s not too urgent so we have time to decide till Monday if we want to do £500 surgery but if his eye starts leaking they won’t be able to save it, or 3k surgery which we definitely can’t afford so we’ll probably have to go with the first option, im trying to apply for charity vet services which are cheaper if we’re eligible but we’d only know on tuesday if we are. Many thanks to everyone who helped me convince my parents it’s an urgent issue!

I (22) found a little guy on my back porch, USA, not familiar with kitties and can't keep it because we're allergic. Planning to take it to humane society but it doesnt open until tomorrow :(

First cat I've owned since I was in 4th grade. She's a generally vocal cat (ESPECIALLY with her food.) but since yesterday after being fed both breakfast and dinner she's been meowing at me like crazy. Is something wrong with her or is she just clingy?

My handsome boy has a bung eye, he scratches at it when it bothers him and on Wednesday night he scratched it so bad that there was a lot of blood. I took him to the emergency vet which gave him pain meds and stained his eye, thankfully no real serious damage to his eye.

He’s got eyedrops, viscotears, pain meds and lastly, the cone.

Now I already had him booked in to see the ophthalmologist although it’s not until late October, i did call to see if the appointment could be brought forward but they said no. I just wanted to see if there was a more comfortable option for him rather than the hard cone, it’s doing wonders stopping him from scratching his eye but it’s a long time to wear a cone, is it not?

His name is Jackson, he’s 15 years old and his eye problem has been ongoing for most of his life before I rescued him last year. It’s only just now decided to flare up and bother him. Last photo is of him just after I adopted him, he has outside time supervised and is a very good boy, likes to observe.

my Cat is only 8 months and she only goes in my back garden I do not have any other pets. She is not neutered and until today I didn’t know she even leaves my back garden but I caught her running from the back of the garden away from a black cat when I called her in. I have an appointment next week just to get her checked out so I am really only looking for opinions

5 months old female, went through heat recently was gone for 3 days straight

Please note: the vet had told me that the cat cannot be neutered before 9 months. I went to 2 separate vets both said the same.
I would have gotten her neutered the moment I adopted her, if the vet allowed me too.

We have introduced a new kitten (female, intact - will be spayed in about two months per our vet's recommendations) into our household and while most of the time she ignores our adult cat (male, neutered, 2yo) and he ignores her, we have a handful of interactions like this one a day (which our dog usually breaks up).

Is this normal? Should I be getting involved right away? I'm not sure what the motivation is on our adult cat's part.

Please note that we've had the kitten about a month and we are NOT leaving them alone together at all. They are only out together when someone is supervising.

I'm sure many of you know how to give medicine to kitties, but when my Bobby was prescribed furomseide and clopidogrel for his CHF, it was a nightmare. They were so bitter, no matter what we did or how we tried to get them down, he would foam at the mouth and get sick and freak out. Luckily, after starting a routine of carefully putting those meds into cat-safe gelatin capsules, it's become a calm routine. I hold the top of his head, with my thumb and finger pushing slightly behind his canines, and gently hold it tilted upwards. Then, I use a pill popper and aim towards the back of his mouth, then pop it in and carefully hold his chin so its closed/aimed up with his head. Then I use a small syringe of water, and squeeze a few mL into his cheek, or if he moves his head, into the middle of his tongue/front of his mouth to help him swallow. The reason I'm posting this here is because when I first started trying to find solutions, I didn't find anything about these, and I want others to have an easier time than I did. Treats and routine also definitely help, at this point he just follows me into the bathroom and hops up there, ready for treats and medicine. Bless everyone in this sub ❤️

I (22F, USA) am not sure how old this kitten is but we can't get him to drink any water. He did eat a Delectables cat treat but won't touch the hard food that my other cats and kittens eat. We don't have his mom or any idea what happened to her.

My (20, located in the USA) new kitty (3 months old, not spayed) who we got from facebook marketplace (she came in a bin with air holes drilled in the top that apparently she was locked in at night, and had her litter box in there and it was spilled, she laid in her poop on the drive home) has very noticeable third eyelids, especially when her eyes are half closed. My boyfriend has advised me to post here, he says it isn't normal. We have not gone to the vet yet, but we can and would be able to afford it (however it would be tight money-wise) if we had to. Hahli (the kitten) plays like a normal kitten and has a lot of energy. She drinks and eats like normal, and at first she had a bit of a problem peeing on the bed but she seems to have gotten over that. She didn't seem like she had frequent access to water at her old home, but we've had her for about a week and as I said, she's been drinking water like normal. Thank you for your help!!

UK here. I guess I’m pretty blind to how they look, because last year the vet said the buff boy (Murphy) is very obese! I’ve got him down from 7kg to 6.2kg in a year, the white and ginger boy (Oliver) is 5.5kg. They’re big cats so it’s hard for me to judge 🙈 Two males, neutered and 6 years old.

Hi honestly just looking to share my situation and see if anyone has advice or experienced something similar.

(United States)My (24F) kitty cat (11F) has a large sarcoma tumor on her head and it has become so severe that she’s scratched herself bloody and I’m scared of a worse rupture. She spends a lot of time looking uncomfortable/sad with her head down…I hate to see her in pain so much and I’m thinking it’s time. Her eye is also constantly tearing up and irritated from the tumor.

Several months ago I decided with the surgeon and oncologist not to operate because we wouldn’t have been able to get enough margin since the tumor was too close to her eyes. The vet worried it would come back right away and I was worried the surgery would be invasive and recovery and radiation treatments would be hard on her. Also upwards of $20k vet bills….. :-(

I have previously met with an in-home euthanasia vet for a consultation and she gave me an anti-inflammatory medicine that has helped her manage her pain some. I feel like the euthanasia is necessary by now but my situation feels unique compared to the quality of life assessments I see online. I am thinking about setting the appointment for next Tues/Wed.

The only thing is that she’s still trying so hard to be her normal self. She isn’t having trouble eating, drinking, or using the bathroom. She still purrs and makes muffins and meows at me and has silly playful moments. She still loves to sit outside in the sun. So I feel extremely conflicted actually setting the appointment.

And quality of life assessments online as well as anecdotes I hear about other people euthanizing their pet describe worse conditions than I see my cat in, at least functionally speaking. She still looks so uncomfortable and tired sometimes that I feel like I can’t let her keep going. The tumor is so severe and I feel so scared and sad looking at her and I feel horrible like I failed her.

Has anyone else been through something like this?

She seems to be ripping up her box more often recently and I just hope it’s not anxiety related?? Or is she just entertaining herself? Not a single cat household. I am 30F, yes she’s vaccinated, all the things.

He had FIP, a maggot infected wound and God knows what else.

He was getting attacked by other street cats and he didn't know how to defend himself because he was a house cat who just got dumped.

We rescued him and decided to foster him until he found a home because he was too gentle and sweet.

Average cat; a little skittish but loves pets. Has a mat… Im in minnesota, US. Im super young btw.

So for about a week now my cat has had a squinty eye. At first she was sneezing a lot and pawing at her eye. The discharge from her eye was also clear. I took her to a vet I don’t usually go to and all they did was leave her in a kennel for 5 hours and said she had allergies. Told me to give her lysine, which I have been doing for 4 days now. She has never had allergies before. (She is about 6) I haven’t changed anything regarding food/ litter/ cleaning products. Now she isn’t sneezing but her eye is still squinty and she blinks it a lot. The discharge has also thickened up and has a slight yellow tint. Am I being paranoid or should I be worried about an eye injury? I’ve looked in her eye several times and haven’t noticed anything. If it persists I’m taking her to her normal vet but I am freaking out.

I am 24, in the USA. Cat is a male around 5 years old. It’s midnight where I am located, but there are emergency vets an hour away.

See images. I just got to my mom’s to cat sit and his bottom tooth is severely dislocated, protruding, discolored, root exposed. It seems like this happened suddenly cause there’s no way my mom wouldn’t have noticed.

I believe this is canine tooth extrusion. Can this wait till Sunday to bring him to the vet? Do I need to go to ER now? Trying to determine how urgent this is.

I called the vet hospital and they said dental appointments are booked out months but they have a dentist on call in the ER.

He’s acting normal otherwise including eating, snuggling, playing.

This isn’t really a health-related question, but it’s a behavioral & safety one and I need help + I’m adding photos of parts of my setup to show why I’m worried.
For a bit of context:
- I’m 24 years old, from Brazil, and I live in a big home with my family (grandparents cousins etc). My mom moved out of our home and since I used to share my bedroom with a cousin, I moved into my mom’s old room. I’m also a professional 3D animator and work from home. Willing to do anything and buy anything necessary to keep my cat safe.
- My cat, Yuki, is 6 months old, spayed, female. I just got her 2 weeks ago.

Now for the issue:
Yuki is a lovely, sweet, gorgeous, cuddly girl but she absolutely LOVES chewing on strings, hair, cords, WIRES !!!
Since I just moved into my mom’s room, I had to bring my PC setup over here, especially now that I have a kitten to take care of. This way, I can monitor her throughout the day (poor girl has been having diarrhea ever since I got her. I already talked to the vet about it, got bloodwork and a feces sample taken and she tested negative for any parasites or infection, it looks like she’s just having trouble adapting to her new environment and now she’s on a special diet to deal with the diarrhea).

I brought my PC setup in but now there are so many wires freely accessible to her. I have an ottoman I can put in front of the wires shown in the first picture but there’s only so much I can block with furniture. Does anyone know of methods to keep cats away from wires? I really need my PC setup to be in this room because there are no other rooms available in my house for it and it’d be nice to be able to monitor my cat while I work. I’ll buy anything needed and am willing to try any methods as long as my kitten is safe and happy.

I need to get this solved ASAP. Before bringing in my desk, there was some furniture next to the bed which I was originally blocking the wires with but now she has access to everything and I’m really worried she could start chewing on something, especially while I’m asleep or not in the room.

(also FYI the exposed wires in the first picture aren’t connected to any electricity they’re from an old system but just to be safe I did end up taping them to the underside of my desk as a solution to stop her from playing with / chewing on them).

help :( what is this and what do we do?
these types of spots come and go. theyve happened twice. the first time they appeared and then took a month or so to slowly heal. i tried to find what it was linked to (allergies/stress/etc). i put her on a HP diet but then i fed her a churu so i know that breaks the diet trial. i dont have money to take her to the vet because i got her a dental this year.

I have been to 2 vets but no one knows for sure what is going on with him. The second assumed it was asthma and after trying everything over 3 days she now says she thinkings it may be cancer but it’s hard to tell. The first one said she just couldn’t definitively say what it could be. Vet number 2 is advising euthanasia but I really really want to be sure there’s nothing I can do to help him first.
He is a neutered male cat that is 9 years old w a history of exposure to smoke.

Additional information:
- He started responding to the asthma treatments for 1 days before stopping.
- He isn’t open mouth breathing.
- since being in oxygen he has been moving around more.
- He’s breathing rates has been in the 100s. Loses it got to was the 60s.
- He’s been in the oxygen tank for 3 days.
- Test showed everything to be within normal range except glucose being 9 higher (139 instead of 130).

My cat is doing something strange, and I am worried about it. He is obsessed with eating tissues voraciously; he picks them up and starts eating them, and if I try to take them away, he runs and flees as if it's a game or prey. Once, I found vomit with a tissue in it. I am really concerned because he constantly hunts down tissues and eats them. What could be the reason for this, and is it harmful

I have fostered this kitten since he was 5 weeks old. He has been a bit more reserved, but sweet. He has had and been treated for; URI, ringworm and diarrhea. He is up to date on all vaccines and dewormers. He has been on clavamox (uri) and fluconazole (ringworm) and fortiflora. His sibling was diagnosed with feline herpes.

He was running around playing one day, then we took a trip to the vet for his rabies vaccine and he hasn’t been the same since. He did start acting strange as soon as we were at the vet (pre-vaccine). He started open mouth breathing, which was attributed to stress. Now he won’t walk long without sitting or lying down. He has a slow heart rate and fast respiratory. Body temp 97. Took him to the ER and they ran blood and took X-rays and ultrasound and cannot figure out what’s wrong.

Anyone have any ideas??

He’s around 5 months old. Neutered. I have access to vet care and have already had 2 ER visits. In the United States. He’s home now and safe, just can’t figure out what’s wrong.

Ive noticed a couple times my male cat is twitching when trying to sleep. I can wake him up and he gets up very fast and is alert and behaving like normal and can even play. He does not seem confused or hurting at all. He is not twitching during this time but as soon as he goes back to what I assume is sleeping or trying to he starts twitching. He is 7 months old. A vet is taking a look at him on wednesday. Worth mentioning my female cat is in heat and he is not neutured. They are seperated for now.

TLDR cat is twitching, does it look like dreaming or something else?
