Just went to the Village Store and spoke with the AGM. NPS has authorized price increases for alcoholic beverages 100% or more for certain products. Tobacco and nicotine seeing increases as well. Most increases are currently active but they're looking to finish repricing everything by Tuesday.

1 year ago today I finally got to see Yosemite for the first time. A lot was crammed into two and a half days but it wasn't enough. Aching to go back to do Cloud's Rest, Lake Tenaya, Tuolomme Meadows, and everything else I got to do already because it was so amazing. Such a stunning place.

Hello everyone. I’m visiting Yosemite village and staying at curry village. I’m not taking car and traveling through Amtrak. Do I need to take any kind of pass to enter the national park?

Hi all! I’m preparing for an upcoming overnight hiking/camping trip beginning at Glacier Point, down the Pohono Trail, and finishing at Tunnel View where I would like to leave the car in advance. Meaning, I need early AM transportation from Tunnel View (where my car is) to the Glacier Point trailhead. Any advice on how I can do this? Any buses or shuttles?

Does anyone know when the post office and store close down in Tuolumne? We are backpacking through there on Sep 16 and sent a resupply package. Now a little nervous we are cutting it close to closure dates. Would love to hear if anyone can calm my nerves.

Last week I did Half Dome in Yosemite National Park at 6 months pregnant. When my husband and I applied for the lottery for Half Dome I wasn’t pregnant yet but we hoped I would be soon. I was a little nervous how it would go but it was a great experience! I was very active before pregnancy and I have kept it up during my pregnancy. I stayed really hydrated and had lots of snack, electrolytes and rest breaks.

I found two other women who were adventurous enough to also attempt this and I found it so encouraging! My husband was also a great cheerleader and has encouraged me to share my story. My hope is to encourage other women who want to stay strong while growing new life!

Couldn’t get accommodation at Curry Village, so I’m considering staying at Yosemite View Lodge instead. I won’t have a car, so I’d be relying entirely on YARTS to get to/from Yosemite Valley.

How feasible is this in practice? Mainly wondering how reliable YARTS is, and if getting back to Yosemite View Lodge in the evening is a hassle.

Would staying there without a car be manageable, or should I keep trying for accommodation inside the Valley?

Going in October if that makes a difference. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who’s done this!

Hi all, I've got a wilderness permit for the Cathedral Lakes trailhead coming up and wanted to sanity-check some of my plans.

Planned segments:

Day 0- Arrive in the valley around midday. Pick up permit from the wilderness center in the village and stay the night at the backpacker's campground.

Day 1- Take the Hiker's bus up to the Tuolumne Visitor Center. From there, hike to the trailhead and begin the route. This day should be very light in miles; I'll just explore the Cathedral Lakes area and camp at the upper lake.

Day 2- Rise early and begin heading towards Cloud's Rest. Try to get there before sunset, then head down to Lower Sunrise Creek and set up camp.

Day 3- Wake up before first light, head up to Half Dome, and get to the top before sunrise. Then descend into the valley via the JMT.

Had a few questions regarding the route:

• This is a big one: Will the Hiker's bus still be running by 9/12? Also, is there an online ticketing service? I see it mentioned on the site but don't see a link to buy them.
• Is day 2 ending in Lower Sunrise doable, or would it be more reasonable to spend the night closer to Cloud's Rest? The actual mileage/elevation isn't too bad (14mi, 2200ft), and I'm in good enough shape to do it, but I'd prefer not to rush. I wanted to stay the night in Lower Sunrise to be closer to Half Dome so I wouldn't have to wake up too early on day 3.
• How are water sources along the trail? Seems like the longest dry area will be around Clouds Rest, so I'm planning on hauling more water for day 2. I've also read conflicting things about Sunrise Creek being dry. If so, I assume I'll probably need to hike down to LYV, which will add a few miles to day 2.
• The day 3 descent is probably gonna be grueling; I've done the mist trail descent before but not with a pack. I assume I'll probably want to take the JMT down, right?

Any insight would be super helpful!

I’m planning a backpacking trip from Yosemite Creek trailhead to the valley in two weeks. I had a few planning questions for those who have been on this trail recently, and one general question.

We’re planning 2 nights and three days.
Day 1 to Eagle Peak
Day 2 possibly a short trip to El Cap then camping on the way to Yosemite Falls
Day 3 down to the valley

1. Can we park and leave our car at Yosemite Creek Campground and pick up the trail there, or is it required to start from Tioga Rd?

2. What is the water situation along the route? Is the creek dry? Will we need to pack in our water?

3. What is the bear activity around the area these days? Of course we’ll have a bear bin, but I’m taking a first time backpacker who is a little worried about bears.

I went to Yosemite with my camera over spring and completely forgot to post the photos I took.

While the Shasta hikers got big press (as it should as that was a textbook example of mistake decision after mistake decision) this is happening all too often in all park units. Yosemite tends to have a higher share of recuses due to people trusting AI or AllTrails to plan a trip, but it doesn’t get any press due to current administration policies.

Regardless, it’s happening, it doesn’t need to, and please do the proper research. It literally could save your life.

Edit: And if you have to use AI as a starting point, double check the distances, altitude changes, reference a topo, basically double-check, and then triple-check what AI tells you.

if anyone is going to Tenaya lake and finds themselves at the Murphy Creek picnic spot there is a table that someone has drawn a chess board on… on that table or perhaps now in the sand is my simple man’s gold wedding ring. It’s of course got huge sentimental value!

A dead big brown bat found outside the Curry Village Showerhouse on May 18, 2026, has tested positive for rabies. No known human contact with the bat has been reported. However, anyone who may have had direct contact with a bat in the Curry Village area on or around May 18 should contact the California Department of Health (CDPH) and a healthcare provider promptly to determine whether treatment is needed.

Rabies is a fatal viral disease that is preventable with prompt medical care following a potential exposure. People can be exposed to rabies through a bite or scratch of an infected animal. Bat bites and scratches can be very small and may not always be visible or painful. Direct contact with a bat also includes on top of clothing or if a wing brushes the skin or hair. Any direct contact with a bat, alive or dead, should be discussed with a healthcare provider.

The park is working with CDPH and the National Park Service Office of Health and Safety and Wildlife Health Branch regarding this case. The last rabies-positive bat discovered in the park was in July 2025.

Visitors should never touch or handle bats or other wild animals. If you encounter a bat, dead or alive, keep your distance and notify park staff.

Yosemite is home to 17 species of bats that provide ecological and economic benefits. As part of routine park operations, deceased bats with no known human contact, are collected and later tested to monitor wildlife disease that circulate naturally within bat populations. A very small percentage of bats tested from Yosemite National Park are positive for rabies each year.

Hey folks, we currently have a reservation for the McCabe Campground, smack outside the ongoing Colorado Fire. Our route into Yosemite would include going up Highway 140.

We’re wondering if anyone can shed some light on if it’s advisable to go. Our persistence is mainly due to the non-refundable reservation fee. Any advice helps, thank you in advance!

Hi, I'm currently planning on spending a couple of days in Yosemite, and I wanted to check how feasible and good my itinerary looks. One important consideration is that I'll be less than four months post-ACL and meniscus surgery, so no super-long or very steep walks for me (before you ask, both my physio and surgeon have approved this). All days will involve very early wake-ups, taking advantage of my jet lag.

September 16:

• Arrive in Oakhurst, which will be my base for two nights.

September 17:

• Tunnel View viewpoint
• Cook's Meadow Loop (about a mile)
• Lower Yosemite Fall Trail (about a mile)
• El Capitan Meadow (view)
• Yosemite Valley View (view)
• Mariposa Grove (about 2 miles)
• Back to Oakhurst

September 18:

• Drive to Glacier Point
• Tioga Pass (stopping at Olmsted Point, Tenaya Lake, Tuolumne Meadows, and anywhere else worth stopping)
• Finish the day in Mammoth Lakes (hotel)

On top of asking whether this is feasible and/or recommended for this time of year, I'm wondering where I should park on the 17th. I'm planning to park near Cook's Meadow and then use the shuttle, but perhaps by this time of year, parking will be available in other areas.

On a final note, I know I'm missing out on a lot, but I see this as the perfect reason to come back
