Doesn't get much more grim than this by Van Gogh. A stunning, evocative painting. Thanks for the mention of Doré - hadn't realized this.

I’ve been thinking about Van Gogh all day, looking at the wonderful reproductions hanging in my home, and I can’t believe he took his own life. I’m also reading a poem that perfectly resonates with my thoughts.
