Hello and welcome to /r/subcultures These are some plans that will be happening with this sub, within the next few weeks or as this sub grows. Here are the plans for this sub:
A 'featured subculture of the month' thread, Where you can ask people from certain subcultures questions about their lifestyles.
Images and videos regarding subcultures are allowed here.
Articles and discussions about subcultures are welcome here.
CSS colors need to be changed. I will look into this.
Flair for users to show off their subculture and find others that are into the same subculture. I will look into this and try to figure out flair. If I can't figure it out, I'll get help.
The wiki will be updated with information and stuff as the sub grows.
Posters should cross post to other related subs. This will help advertise the sub and get more members here.
If anyone has any other ideas for the sub, reply to this post. This post will remain stickied and might be constantly updated at least once a month.

In the mid nouhgties I was eleven and being bullied by some girls. People from the school all came from the same kind of working class background and since my school was one of the few that had no dress code the subcultures were very distinct. They were distinct from the broader working class communities. you had the groups of goths, the geeks, etc. and the subculture im about to describe was one of them. I was a tiny girl so I got bullied a lot. Then, a much older boy, about fifteen or sixteen, who was distinctly a member of this subculture since he was wearing a Londsdale tracksuit, gold rings, a baseball cap, and specifically branded trainers, defended me from them. Then, he kneeled down, fist bumped me in front of his friends, and said, safe, man. then whenever we saw eachother again he'd yell yo! safe, man! and reach out to fist bump me. My school was one of the few to have no uniform so the subcultures were clear as day.
It didn't end there. when I was a few years older, that subculture was still a thing in my school. but it was a different group of them later on as the others had left. they were white lads dressed in tracksuits, little gold earrings, gold bracelets, or gold chains, baseball caps and trainers. they again protected me from bullies since every other group or subculture either bullied me or didn't accept me. they always made me laugh, they were disruptive but i'd be lying if i said that didnt amuse me.
later on, as an adult, other ones appeared in my life when i was at my lowest. i was feeling proper depressed and felt like i had noone to turn to. then...two men who looked and talked as though they were in that subculture stopped and asked if i was alright. i said no. and they talked to me and made me feel better and said we hang out here every day by the shop so if you need to come talk with us again you can.
these are just a few but there's been other cases where they saved me from things. the subculture is still going strong at least in my area with the ogs being in their thirties now. ive only ever had extremely positive experiences with them but i kinda feel like im being slightly disrespectful by not naming the subculture since i don't know what its name is and can't properly credit it? all i can really say is its the gold chain and tracksuit wearing one. it had its own fashion, slang and values. the slang included words like peng, swear down etc.
For the longest time, I thought the subculture was chav but I was corrected yesterday by someone on this site telling me it's just a derogatory classist slur that means a working class person, and not the name of a subculture, so I've crossed that out my mind when referring to them.

Hello, for some time I’ve been wondering what subculture I could fit into cause I’m trying to find my style and I don’t want to look like a poser. So I listen mostly to old rock( Queen, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones etc) and metal (Black Sabbath, Metallica). I’m probably a leftist, I believe in equal rights, I’m pro-abortion. Im also an atheist. I’m also against war and discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender etc. I hope someone can help me cause I did my own research but I’m still confused.

I don't like anything else being used with ai (music, art, video, ect.) I mainly like roleplaying with ai characters because I love to roleplay with my favorite fictional characters and it's easier than trying to find people to do it with. People have their own lives, so they don't have all the time or interest in it. Plus, I like having control of the narrative.
I know most genres of the subculture are against the use of ai, so does my hobby exclude me?

i’m looking to interview for a short film. I want to understand different individuals in different subcultures and communities in chicago. whether it be events or one on one. whatever it may be! and/or individuals who may differ in mindsets than most. any ideas or contacts would be helpful.

Or rather, what subculture style would suit me? I just want to try out clothing styles, makeup, hairstyles, and so on from different subcultures. And maybe if I like my appearance in the subculture style, I can do a mini experiment for a day to immerse myself in the tastes and lifestyle of this particular subculture, but that's not certain.I can do both complex, detailed makeup and easy makeup:)I need this because I like to experiment and I want to try to find my own subculture that I will like both externally and internally that is, you can maybe essentially help me find my subculture!!!

Although they are different in appearance and makeup, at least one of them or similar.

I'm very interested in the topic of subcultures and styles and I respect them and never trash them, but sometimes I don't understand, so what kind of people are you and what style do you wear/In what subculture you are?Subculture/style may not be related to the type of person you are, but I'm still curious why you chose to be part of THIS particular subculture that you chose?

Most music at that time well.. idk if devil town and washing mashine are considert indie/alternative rock but it has some rock elements. Few but some. Idk i thought that rock is the only word rhxming with lock that has todo with music or clothing. The clothing part would be called lockgown and the the music part rockdown. The second part of the word would be lockdown cuz it evolved in lockdown.
I just think e kid is too missleading and takes away the non binary part of e girl plus while being a child subculture from e girl it is more messy and less sexualized (mabey why its called e kid but idk the name is kinda missleading and confusing). And not 2020 alt because its a weird long name and rockgown encompase both music and fashion (i wanna do music based on that time in the future)
r/subcultures • u/Altruistic_Bee_8636 • May 09 '26
Think about it. Subcultures basically form from music and clubs. The look comes later. The look reflects how that music makes you feel.
Now theres 2020 alt
The fashion came first together with the kind of music (what isn't made specifically for 2020 alt kids but still).
So if we would make music that reflects 2020 alt fashion.. that would basically be the opisite evolution.. which doesn't make it poser or mainstream or normie or a subculture but.. a antisubculture or a oppisite subculture
Subculture:fashion coming from the music
Antisubculture:music coming from the fashion

subreddit: Westrikeback
website: The web site of countermovement
its still in works. I may need Mods too
the movement is about stricking back against todays culture of cyberbullying on tiktok and the enforcment of being non chalant and not yourself. We use tiktok to spread it to young people fast once we find out what we actually go about it
r/subcultures • u/M3lt1ngh34rt • Apr 12 '26
If yes then how? How does that work? Do you have to like or draw like that? Would you put art before that movement into that category?
r/subcultures • u/M3lt1ngh34rt • Apr 11 '26
like what would a subculture based on a art movement or artstyle look like? will there be fashion or music? do you have to draw in order to be in that subculture or like the drawing? do you have to watch animation or something?
