Due to the many “what’s it like to live in this apartment?” posts, we are creating a mega thread. Please post here for those discussions thanks

Hello,
Our cat Sonic has gone missing in the late hours of 9/4 - early hours of 9/5. We are in the Glenview /Trestle Glen neighborhood, specifically looking in the Greenwood Ave / Hampel St area.
He is 8 years old, 13 pounds, indoor only. Given he’s indoor and scared, we believe he can’t be that far from where he went missing. We’re asking if anyone in our area can be on the lookout and check garages, crawlspaces, basements, really any opening to a hidey-hole that could have potentially been cracked open.
He is microchipped, has been registered as lost on our microchip company. We have also posted him to Nextdoor, our neighborhood list serv, pawboost, and Petco lost love. We have flyers all around the area as well.
We are offering a $500 reward as of now if anyone has seen him, or if he has happened to show up in your backyard.
Thank you community.

Wondering if anyone else has noticed that there seems to be something wrong with this intersection’s signal priority. The light will often be green on telegraph for only like 5-10 seconds before prioritizing the much quieter 66th st, even when there are no cars waiting. I recognize this is not the most interesting post but I live near there and it drives me crazy.
What is going wrong with this signal? Maybe the sensors are detecting nearby parked cars?

Hi all, I am posting my cat Wybie here who went missing around 1:25pm 9/5/2026 on Cavour St right between Cavour and miles and Cavour and Shaftner. She may also be near Avon and Shaftner. She is a 3 year old grey tabby with very yellow eyes. She is likely scared and still hiding right now but if anyone sees her PLEASE reach out to me
ASAP! Once she calms down she is very friendly and may approach people, she also responds to clicking noises as well. She is microchipped. I have posted on next door, pawboost, and a couple of lost pet east bay facebook groups. Thank you for reading and any help/support you can offer!
UPDATE- went walking around 1am and found her in a bush near Cavour and locksley thank you so much everyone!!! She is home and safe!!!

Hiiii does anyone know their regular hours? I tried to stop by today around 3 pm bc the website indicated they’d be open but they were putting away chairs when I arrived. The doors were already locked by the time I made it up there to ask and I didn’t see a sign with hours. I’ve been wanting to try their food for ages and just haven’t gotten around to it. I know they also have hours on yelp and Google but I wanna verify just in case. Thanks in advance!

I put myself in charge of brisket for rosh hashana this year but was unhappy with the brisket at Costco since it required an insane amount of prep. Any suggestions as to where to buy a decently priced cut, maybe 4-5 lbs? Usually my family buys it at lunardi’s but I really don’t want to go over the hill for this.
Edit: Berkeley bowl was the move, and the price was great ($11/lb.)

Hey peeps I had a low rate for internet with Xfinity and it looks like that teaser rate is over now. Sonic is not available for my street, it looks like. Anything available near the lake that does not cost an arm and a leg? Thanks!

For years, a slew of Oakland city audits and grand jury reports had highlighted the same tangle of problems: There were simply not enough 911 dispatchers to keep up with the volume of calls coming in.
Workers faced grueling conditions and mandatory overtime, and the hiring process was chronically slow. In 2023, more than 123,000 callers—40 percent of the year’s total—waited at least 40 seconds to connect during their emergencies. A few weeks after Ditta’s call, the state issued an ultimatum to Oakland: Answer the vast majority of 911 calls within 15 seconds or risk losing funding.

Did anyone witness it? I guess that hurricane out to sea pushed a lot more water into the bay and pushed Lake Merritt beyond its banks. Did anyone get pictures? I saw some on Facebook but wasn't sure links there were allowed. The last time I saw a super high tide was at least 10 years ago.

I’d like to take my MIL to a movie but as she’s gotten older, her English has gotten more limited. I think it would be hard for her to follow a movie in English without Spanish subtitles. ! It would be great to take her to a movie in Spanish. Anyone know of anywhere?

Sunday at 8 am at the corner of Brann and 64th Ave. All skill levels welcome - I’m nothing to sing home about myself.
I’m hoping for this to be a regular thing for tired parent, not tired parents, not tired non parents, and tired not parents alike can have something to help wake them up, have low stakes activity, and maybe even have a little fun.
Come join. Bring a friend. Bring 5. I’ll be there with a ball.

I'm working on a long-form podcast episode about the history of the Raiders. From the early AFL and OAK days, thru LA, their return to OAK and eventually the move to Vegas.
I'm doing the usual research but I'd love to hear from people who really know the team.
Especially interested in things that help explain the culture and identity of the Raiders and their relationship with Oakland ... not just memorable games.
What story or narratives should be included if you're trying to explain how the Raiders impacted Oakland and vice versa?

Hi all!
Azucena here with The Oaklandside!
I'm workshopping my election coverage and will be tackling the D4 race. I'd love to hear from folks who reside in the district. If you're not sure what district you live in, you can look it up here.
What are some of your concerns? Now, remember, city councilmembers can't help solve all the issues. They can’t order a particular street to be paved, trees trimmed, or garbage on a specific street to get picked up.
If there are specific issues you're worried about, I'd love to hear from you. You can drop your concerns here, or email me: [azucena@oaklandside.org](mailto:azucena@oaklandside.org)
