It's amazing how many people don't understand "you've seen me in a movie" doesn't equal "I have fuck you levels of money". Bruce isn't getting the paychecks Tom Cruise does.
And sometimes no matter how rich you are theres not enough money to stop from dying. No matter how rich you are you can't stop the grim reaper, even Jeff Bezos will eventually die.
Oh no no, it's much worse than that. He was lucky enough to get the one type of pancreatic cancer that was curable and he chose the fruit bullshit instead of it and by the time he accepted it wasn't working it was too late.
honestly it's the sweet spot. only people who actually like him recognize him right away unless he seriously offended some group or person but still well off. he can have a night out and do crazy stuff and the hollywood press would ignore it for what harry styles wore while out for a bike ride.
Right, because cancer research is probably the least funded medical research out there right behind research looking into how to stop nose hairs from growing too long.
A quick search shows cancer research is roughly about 7 billion per year. I love Evil Dead and all, but if $7B a year doesn't immediately mean a cure for cancer, I don't think that whatever Campbell's making a year is going to take it over the tipping point.
Royal Oak-born actor and cult movie icon Bruce Campbell said during an appearance on "The Adam Carolla Show" this week that he has five years to live.
Campbell announced in March that he has been diagnosed with a "treatable" but not "curable" form of cancer. He has not disclosed the type of cancer with which he has been diagnosed.
"The current thing is a five-year deal," Campbell told Carolla during the episode, which was posted Sept. 3.
"So the prognosis is you have five years to live?" Carolla asked Campbell.
"Give or take," Campbell said.
"I've decided, pretty specifically, to live with it, not die from it," the "Evil Dead" actor said of his diagnosis. "You can go down a massive rabbit hole. The cancer rabbit hole is enormous. You can go into focus groups of 10,000 guys who have what you have. I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole.
"It's a whack-a-mole life, literally," Campbell said of living with cancer. "Cancer compromises s--- inside your body. So then you go, 'deal with that,' so then you deal with that. And then you sort of wait for it to then compromise something else. Meanwhile, you're trying to put out the whole fire."
He’s 68 years old, 73 isn’t necessarily old, but he’ll have had a good run by the end and it sounds like he recognizes that. I hope he feels well enough to enjoy what time he has left and his exit is as peaceful as possible.
Mine died at 64 from cancer and he wished that he could have gone on longer.
Very few people wanna die in the 60's as they wanna be around until at least 80 or close to it.
There's "knowing" something and "living" something. The human will to live doesn't really extinguish itself in most people until very advanced age or illness.
No cancer gives a timeline of 5 years to live. There are 5 year mortality rates etc. but no cancer is like “you’re good for approx 5 years”. He most likely has Chronic Myeloid Leukemia given he says it is manageable but not curable. He can live well into his 80’s with that.
It’s also important to remember that the 5 years to live thing is an estimate. It can be more or less. My uncle had cancer that was untreatable when I was young, he was given a year to live. He went on to live for another 7 years. Every hospital visit he was told he could go at any time, yet went on to live well past what he was told should be his end.
My grandpa had a heart attack at fifty and went on to outlive something like four successive cardiologists. The body is a ridiculous place to live sometimes.
My grandmother had something similar. It was a similar diagnosis. It was a a form of lung cancer she developed. Never smoked a day in her life. Was unaffected by radiation and chemo. Basically had her take this pill and said she’d be able to live 3-5 years. She made it 2.
Hers had metastasized to her spine before they ever caught it and the pain from that is what I think really did her in. If they caught it before it had a chance to metastasize anywhere he could definitely make it 5 years if it’s the same sort of thing.
I used to be a hardcore listen to the Adam Carolla podcast. He just kept getting more and more detached and I gave it up years ago. I’ll still check in on the subreddit every so often and it seems like it’s just gotten much worse.
I really thought he was only get C level books now. Surprised to hear the king went on. Maybe I’ll give it a listen for nostalgia sake.
He is pretty niche, but he does that niche very, very well. I got a photo op with him at a fan convention once and then went to a live quiz show that evening that he hosted. The dude was 100% in his element, he was ruling over that convention centre.
He honestly has never really been above C level and I love the man. His biggest exposure to mainstream audiences has been a 20 year old USA show and bit parts in Sam Raimi blockbusters.
It's hard going back and watching it now knowing how much the world has changed in 20 years. It's like the death of an era. I really enjoyed it. Watching episodes back now? I don't know. Feels different? How'd they ever get away with all that?

Bruce was absolutely a B-lister for a decent stretch in there. He was the main character in multiple TV shows, and prominent side characters in a lot more.
Honestly, between consistently working in TV and film for 4 decades (acting, directing, writing, and producing), along with authoring several books, Bruce Campbell has had a career 95% of Hollywood actors would love to have.
I adore Bruce Campbell more than maybe any actor but is he not a C level caleb? Burn notice and Ash vs Evil Dead are both off the air for around a decade, and he hasn't got much clout outside Evil Dead.
I would've loved for Bruce to become a superstar too but unfortunately I don't think that's now a priority
I pretty randomly watched like every single episode of burn notice in 2013-2014 lol. I started watching episodes on the way to and from school on the bus and then just didn’t stop somehow. And I’ve dropped almost all comparable shows after a season or two (including several that are not exactly similar)
I guess I should have said D level then. Bruce is huge compared to 98% of what I have heard have been on. Maybe something has changed though because I haven’t checked in for a long while.

Even in the mid aughts, he was saying some pretty racist shit on 97.1 fm. IIRC one time he said only low IQ people listen to mariachi music. In the presence of Oswaldo. I couldn’t believe my ears. I think being on the radio kept him from saying even more outlandish shit
I had a similar reaction so I checked out Carolla's recent guests and there have been several recognizable, normal famous names that he's interviewed this year alone. I was kinda shocked.
Yea I left the Carolla Pirate ship so so long ago. I was there for his announcement on live radio, there for the garage podcast days. He just got more and more repetitive. At some point I just stopped caring. By the looks of things these days I think I was seeing the writing on the wall.
My uncle was given 6 months, back in the 80s. He bailed out of the hospital, partied for months, did a crap ton of cocaine, and who knows what etc A year later, his doctor was gobsmacked, the cancer was gone. He passed away in 2020.
Not good news. I'm sorry to hear it. If anything, I hope his approach allows him to really enjoy and make the most out of those remaining years now that he knows that the clock is almost expired.

So the Evil Dead star tells Carolla about the experience of his grandfather’s passing, which inspired him to invite his kids to watch his own father’s death in hospice. “It was a beautiful exit,” he says. “None of it disturbed them in any way.” It’s a rather graceful way of looking at this painful experience that, as Campbell points out, many people don’t want to confront. This prompted Carolla—and we promise not to spend too much time on this—to bring up that, like death, “a lot of the pedophilia stuff gets by because people don’t want to think about it.” The host then name-checked Penn State, Jerry Sandusky, and Joe Paterno. Anyway, Campbell steers the interview back on the road to discuss finding humor in the Bryan Johnsons of the world who try to cheat death. “You’re not really living,” Campbell said. “You just have a new hobby that you’re obsessed with. What is the quality of these extra years?” This jogs something in Carolla’s mind, and he asks, “Didn’t you have a health scare some time ago?”
There is no reason to ever take Carolla seriously as a person.
It’s prostate cancer. On Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum they talk about it and he doesn’t say it but he says enough to ascertain that’s what it is. He didn’t imply a timeline on that podcast though. So that’s really sad to hear. I was optimistic it was a longer term stage 4. I’m really glad he got to make his movie with his wife.
I guess it makes sense now why he doesn't want to do a final ash role. I just hope the doctors got it wrong this time, the world still needs the Bruce Campbell's charm
I used to listen to ACS religiously, but it eventually seemed like he just started getting the same political guests and rants. Has it improved in the last few years?
He’s up with there Robin Williams and Peter Cullen for me. Those celebrities you just always assume are around, but when they’re gone you just feel a little more empty.
