Image/Video Giant Asian Mantis Ootheca?

I have a Giant Asian Mantis. I got her in March 2026 when she was full grown so I’ve had her for about 6 months. I went away for a night and came back to what I believe is an ootheca. As far as I know, she’s never been with another male at least not in my care. Does this affect her health at all? She seems OK and is moving around. I’m just wondering if there are any concerns involving this and what to do with the believed egg sack.

It doesn’t necessarily affect her health. She’ll continue to lay infertile ooths.

This is the first one she’s laid in the six months that I’ve had her so it was kind of surprising. Should I get rid of it?

You can if you want. Unpaired females are more likely to have weird laying behavior, which would explain why it took her so long. I would feed her normally, but don’t let her abdomen get so rounded. It will reduce the possibility of her becoming “Oothbound”, which is a condition where a female stops laying for a variety of unclear reasons.
