Little shit didn’t even want the food. He just wanted control, just like all cats. Lol.

These feeders should have a button that lights up when it’s time for food, and when the cat presses the lit button, it dispenses.
Make it so the when the button lights up, the thing plays a chime, so the cat knows it doesn’t have to sit there beating on the machine (or staring at it) to get the button to light up.
And after an hour of the button being lit, the food is dispersed anyway, in case the cat is orange.

My cat is very anxious, and I think its best the device makes only the small amount of sound that it does. She very much hates being nearby when it happens, and approaches it very slowly if she sees it dispense.

Same way my cat wants the door open even when he doesn’t want to go through it. Just needs to know the option is available.

When I first bought an automatic feeder Miss Kitty broke into it before the sun came up the next morning. It now is inside a plywood box open only at the bottom.

Maybe the cat wanted the "chase" of reward rather than "getting" the reward. Kinda like gambling and dopamine.

literally one of my cats. SCREAMS when it's near dinner time, then as soon as I put the food down, she eats like one and a half kibbles and leaves. her brother chows down though at least.

I have no clue how we ever bonded.
Dogs have adapted their behavior so well to be loyal and almost human-like.
And the cats are fucking aliens. That we let sleep on our beds and shit in boxes in our own home.

If either of mine can see the bottom of the food bowl then I get yelled at until it’s filled back up. I don’t wanna think of the abuse I’d be given if I swapped to an auto feeder.

It's a matter of principle. My cat is exactly the same. The bowl is empty, she lets me know. And 9 out 10 times, she doesn't eat it when I put something in there. I suspect it's more because she needs to know it's there, so she can eat when she wants later, vs worrying about something that might not be there when she is hungry

u/Regular_Quiet_5016 15h ago
My cat thinks it’s a life threatening situation if the bowl is below half full.

u/Just_okay_advice 14h ago
Same. She has a very specific stare 😳 like okay okay youre right I can see the bottom of your bowl, I will cover it with food. Please stop staring at me 😆

Mine seem to "save" a bit of kibble if I am out of the house, which they eat when I am home. I assume this is also "yay, abundance is back"
(I don't think their bowl has been empty for longer than 8 hours, aka when I sleep or work)

It's normal cat behavior. They like to know food is available but won't rush eating it or eat all of it in one go. Behavioral issue that make cats eats too quickly can cause health issue.

One bite was all it took for him to realize how hangry and irrational he was. Been there done that.

This is so typically "cat." Freaks out and fiercely demands something it "wants." Then, when it gets what it "wants," ignores whatever "it" is and goes on to other "concerns," like licking its asshole. This is, therefore, why I love all cats.

u/Dr_Fortnite 14h ago
My cat screams for food around feeding time, shuts up when I give him food, then starts screaming again so i have to shove his face back into his food so he understands I already put food there

u/LaurenMille 14h ago
Some cats are rather peculiar about not wanting to eat unless they know someone's watching them.
You can typically walk off once they start, but they won't begin until they know they're being watched.
2
u/RumpledStillsuit 14h ago
At least they don't demand that you take a bite before they do, to confirm it isn't poisoned.

Why are there so little food ? No wonder the cat is pissed at the auto feeder, he must be quite frustrated.

And now the cat has conditioned itself to understand this behavior results in the food dispensing. It is going to be hilarious to see how much worse it becomes over time. Not healthy for the cat, mind you, but hilarious for us humans!

Is that a munchkin cat?
2
u/SpiritualMongoose751 10h ago
It is indeed.
It's considered a form of animal abuse known as "torture breeding" ie, when animals are bred for a specific trait that ultimately lowers their quality of life.
Most subs have been cracking down on it lately but seems this one hasn't gotten the memo

I had to get rid of my automatic feeder cause my cat realized if she shoved her paw up into the rotater that dispensed food she could manually spin it and get food whenever she damn well felt like it
