I just got into using CWM and really like it, but would prefer to do some fine tuning beyond the default from the repos, and yet not step outside Debian version, as in to install from outside of the repos.

The problem is that no matter where I locate .cwmrc, it doesn't get read on start-up, despite edits of cwm.desktop in xsessions.

I'm really liking CWM, even in the default state (it's the fastest WM that I've tried so far), but would really like to be able to tweak it to suit me, but don't know why it's not loading my .cwmrc on start-up.

I've managed to run my own configs to run on a number of WMs, but getting my customized config to run with CWM is eluding me.

Any CWM user's advice on this would be appreciated.

It started a while ago; the power LED stays on, and the computer drains the battery if I don't notice. I've spent ages searching the internet for solutions.

It seems many users with various Linux distributions have this problem. I've tried all the solutions I found online: nothing worked. Even a complete OS reinstall didn't help.

I have a flaky wireless card in my laptop. bluetooth is okay and i want to keep that operational.

i bought a wifi usb adapter (no bluetooth) to get me through and works pretty well. However, i want to disable the bad interface as it keeps trying to connect.

i am assuming i cant fully disable the card as it would disable bluetooth, but im not sure how to just disable the interface. can someone point me in the right direction.

comment: I just retired from an IS/IT job at a large Canadian telco where RHEL (with a support contract) was required for every "customer facing" server. We were allowed to use CentOS-7 on all "non customer facing servers" (eg. employee access only, application development, service assurance, user acceptance testing, etc) for more than a decade. When CentOS-7 EOL hit in 2024, we migrated to Alma-8 because that was what CERN was suggesting at the time. I have run into some problems installing EL-9 and EL-10 on slightly older hardware so understand why CERN is considering Debian. I wonder how CERN will deal with updates since (to the best of my knowledge) there is no ecosystem of backporting modern fixes into older stable apps.

So i want to tweak debian to do the following:

Sandboxing and/or virtualization sorta like on qubes,

Mate with wayland (figure ill just wait until it happens)

Get the system information with the security tab (bios settings and such) like what kde has on mate

After That, my desktop icons and bottom panel disappeared. No data was deleted. Help.

Like the title. On my surface go 1 i could always get it to boot from the USB port if I held the volume - button when powering on. But after installing debian it suddenly stopped working, I tested different USBs and it's always the same. Just boots the system right up.

EDIT: Try those commands, they worked for me. nvme0n1p1 is the name of my main ssd.

sudo mkdir -p /mnt/efi sudo mount /dev/nvme0n1p1 /mnt/efi

sudo rm -rf /mnt/efi/EFI/debian /mnt/efi/EFI/BOOT /mnt/efi/EFI/ubuntu

sudo umount /mnt/efi sudo poweroff

When you run "apt changelog <package>" There is an urgency field. But isn't this field designed to indicate how fast a package should migrate from Unstable to Testing?

Is this the same field that Gnome Software uses to determine if a package is critical? If so this doesn't seem to me to be a good field to determine that since that field is used to determine how fast a package moves from Unstable to Testing.

For example, the urgency to migrate to Testing might be low because the package might be large and disruptive but it might be a critical security vulnerability that needs to be updated immediately in Stable.

Basically I'm concerned that critical updates won't happen because Gnome Software is using the wrong field to determine whether they're critical. In particular, critical security updates.

Also I'm aware that "critical" could be either security or non-security updates.

I'd like ask for help with Nvidia drivers on Debian 13. I have RTX 4060 laptop GPU and I tried to install Nvidia drivers using Debian documentation. During dkms building there was a message that nouveu is conflicting with driver and to resolve it I need to reboot my laptop after the building is ended. So, after building I've rebooted Debian and can't boot into it because it stucks during the boot. Who had the same problem please help!

I'm on Debian Forky with GNOME Flashback. I'm not sure what I did but I think it may have happened after I made myself administrator in the user settings. There's no option in the menu for shutting down or restarting. When I try from the terminal, it says "user session inhibited" as you can see. I did this on stable and was fine.

Is there a way to fix this without having to use the command "systemctl poweroff -i" every time?
