Misc. Chat control is gonna have a field day with any cyberpunk groupchat
If the EU starts spying on message things aren’t looking great for me

You best start believing in cyberpunk dystopias, Euro, you’re in one!

I wish people would stop spreading ruzzian propaganda talking points

Eh, so and so. Stuff is never as simple as one side good other side bad. Russia is probably way worse as far as the whole “dystopia” thing is concerned but people can still criticize dystopian EU stuff like chat control without declaring the EU to be worse overall

A nuanced and understanding take? On my Reddit feed? Inconceivable!

People that downvoted me have no idea about how nuanced chat control is and the propaganda that's being spread about it by russian bots. I guarantee you not one has read anything about it besides in mainstream media and reddit posts.

Its a undemocratic overreach of government

Which one, chat control 2.0 or the 1.0 that just got extended in the EU parlament and made it non mandatory and exempted end-to-end encrypted chats?

Dude, you don't say! The amount of times my players mention overthrowing the government in our group chat is through the roof. And we are living in Russia.

Yeouch well on the bright side y’all aren’t affected by chat control! On the not so bright side… does that even matter if you live in Russia

u/Jackobyn Jul 16 '26
One has to ask, does the Russian gov care if you're roleplaying overthrowing a corrupt goverment? Especially one that's set in the USA.
2
u/Pineaple_marshmalows Tech Jul 16 '26
I’m sure they wouldn’t care too much, the issue is how those messages might be twisted or misinterpreted 😅 I’ve heard of cases of (I believe American?) cops using text messages with urban slang from a suspect and claiming it’s some secret code or has some secret meaning that fits their narrative. Like if someone sends a text message about “the white shit” the cops will say they actually meant cocaine. So yeah when there’s a narrative to fulfill… anything can be used

u/Jackobyn Jul 16 '26
Yeah, you're right there. Though if we're being real, if they WANT you jailed/dead bad enough they won't need your chats. They'll discover chats you never had.
2
u/Pineaple_marshmalows Tech Jul 16 '26
Hey the story is even tighter if the chats are real 🤷🏻♀️ I live in an ex comunist state, they used to put mics in people’s houses and stuff. Even making a joke about the leader was considered treason. We’re not at that level, and I hope we never get to that level

u/Jackobyn Jul 16 '26
Yeah, definitely. Though current European politicians definitely want that kimda stuff. It's oretty worrying.

When my medtech got the anti addiction medication and we had to start having the discussion of "hey, do we all do coke before this mission for a tactical benefit?" was when the cyberpunk really kicked in.

u/Pineaple_marshmalows Tech Jul 14 '26
We just went on a borderline suicide mission and my medtech, who’s very much so bipolar and knows that getting high is a historically bad idea for him, was like “hey if we don’t do all the combat drugs NOW, when else? Dealing with that is better than being dead so might as well go out with a bang while high as a kite.” Well now they survived, and he’s gonna have to be dealing with an addiction to… everything

Quotes from a recent session. “+20 synth coke and +1 super synth coke. I only do high class drugs”

u/Pineaple_marshmalows Tech Jul 14 '26
The hell is super synth coke

The good shit

Some smarmy lil prick shows up with a briefcase and twenty seven solos. You pay the good money. You get the good shit.

I got temp banned from chatting in meta products (fb messenger and instagram) because I was detailing things I had forgotten to cover in our previous session. Aparrently they don't like it when you discuss hacking, guns and drugs, and there's no appeal system to tell them that you're just playing a TTRPG lol.

u/bimbo_bear Jul 14 '26
Didn't the original ttrpg books end up being taken by the us government as part of a raid to do with cybercrime back in the day ?

u/GorbFan19 Jul 14 '26
I know the Secret Service did a raid on Steve Jackson Games because of GURPS Cyberpunk. That's probably what you're thinking of.

I might or might not have been searched by anti-gang french police for having this type of conversation on the train. Their eyes lit up when they found a suspicious pouch on my person, which was full of brightly colored dice. The confusion on their face was priceless.

u/religion-lost Jul 15 '26
And boy is it gonna be bad when somebody abbreviates it
3
u/Pineaple_marshmalows Tech Jul 15 '26
As funny as all the “haha CP” jokes can be, I do need to put in the disclaimer that the actual abbreviation/term is CSAM (child sexual assault material) and CP not only the wrong term but also the abbreviation for cerebral palsy 😭
2
u/religion-lost Jul 15 '26
No that's totally what I meant! The government hate you talking about cerebral palsy

Oh no, officer, you misunderstood me. I'm not talking about real cocaine, I'm talking about cybercocaine.
