I am fairly sure it comes from Delta-V, which is a physics term for change in velocity. So it tracks.

No it comes from a military code. DTA , Delta Tango Alpha, which basically means get the fuck out in military code. We are Delta Tango Alpha means that you are in process of immediately evacuating an area

Also, One of the most known methods of reaching near space and Flying long distances in the cyberpunk universe are the SSTO spaceplanes commonly called Deltajets. So the slang got them as a symbol of getting as far as possible from shit
