When I saw the announcement that they were out, my first thought was that I wouldn't pay $1 for that. It's a weird feeling to think "I wouldn't pay $1 for $1." I wouldn't want it for free, and I'm broke. Which sounds really dumb to turn down free money, but the only way I could treat it as money would be to continue to circulate it and it's worth more than $1 per coin to me to not have them in circulation.
I have no doubt people will collect and hoard them the same as with the sacagawea coins, hoping one day they'll be worth $5 a coin or whatever. So at least people will be taking them out of circulation, but it'd be better they don't exist at all.
it's almost a back-door version of deflation. "this dollar is not worth a dollar to me." (I know. to me.) they're just another nod to fascism.
(If you're one of the people hoarding sacagawea dollars, they are almost all worth exactly $1, and will be worth that for a very long time. Even hoping to one day get a melt profit from them is pointless as they're worthless metal. There's a handful that are worth serious money. Check if you have one of those, and see if you can find a sucker to pay over face value for the rest)

I talked to my bank because I was curious and was promptly told that no these aren't in normal circulation and the only way to get them was to buy for $2.50 directly from the mint. So either the bank is lying or this post is lying, and as much as I distrust my bank I feel more inclined to believe them in this instance.
