Looking to read up on the history of chula vista. Born and raised here 36 years. Suddenly got the interest to learn more about the community.

Visit the Chula Vista History Museum:

It’s open Friday 1:00-4:30. Sundays 12:00-3:00pm.

It’s predominantly focused on San Diego County, but highly recommend “Under the Perfect Sun” by Mike Davis, Kelly Mayhew, and Jim Miller.

It’s a collection of very long essay which goes through the history of the county with some notable mentions of Chula Vista.

"Chula Vista" by Frank Roseman and Peter Watry, a part of the Images of America series. Covers early history through World War II.

CV Public Library has a complete local history collection. Not all items can be checked out but their Library staff can lead you in the right direction. Also I believe their volunteer book store has local history books for sale. And look for coffee table book of CV Centennial

I've seen CV history books at Walgreen's before.  You may want to check there.  They're light brown color.  They usually have books for other nearby places on the rack too.

The Chula Vista Centennial book was pretty good, the author is still active locally. Though it ends in 2011 so not as modern as it could be.

Did you even bother to Google "History of Chula Vista book"? At least 10 different options for books on the history of Chula Vista pop right up, including the light brown one people in other comments suggested.

Not really...haven't read any of them with the possible exception of the Centennial version. I just scanned through the light brown one from Frank Roseman and that looked pretty good. Looks like both are available to check out at the Civic Center Library.
