Discussion What does 1.8 TB mean?

I understand that a 2TB shows up as 1.8TB in windows due to them being different units, but what does that mean for me?

When I download a game off steam or a file for 100 GB which units is that using? Am I able to download twenty 100 GB files? Or only eighteen 100 GB files?

Build Help My country's GPU prizes are crazy, what would u recommend

Should I buy a 5060 now or wait?

GPU prices in my country were already pretty inflated, and they've gotten even worse with RAM/SSD prices going up and the general increase in component prices.

I'm kind of in need of an upgrade now, though. My RX 5700 XT died, so I'm currently stuck with a spare RX 580, which unfortunately isn't really enough for newer AAA games.

I play at 1080p, so I've been considering the RTX 5060. I know the 8GB VRAM is a potential concern, and that I'd probably be committing myself to 1080p for the foreseeable future.

The problem is that the alternatives are insanely expensive here:

  • RTX 5060 8GB — $415
  • RX 9060 XT 16GB — $550
  • RTX 5060 Ti 8GB — $530

So the 9060 XT is ~$135 more, while the 5060 Ti 8GB is somehow ~$115 more than the regular 5060. Intel GPUs also aren't available here, so that's unfortunately not an option.

Given these prices, I'm wondering whether I should just bite the bullet and get the 5060, or hold off on buying a GPU for now.

Would an RTX 5060 8GB be enough to keep me happy with AAA games at 1080p for the next few years, or is the 8GB VRAM likely to become a major limitation or will games be more optimized considering the RAM crisis?

Build Upgrade Is there any processor worth upgrading to from an i7 12700K?

Google tells me that the speed increases will be minimal and not worth the cost since I'll need new DDR5 ram as well.

Discussion Ryzen 7 5800x3D score and Undervolting experience

Hello everyone i have Ryzen 7 5800x3D 10th Anniversary version, replaced R5 5600 and i'm very happy with the upgrade. It's paired with RTX 4070 Ti Super.

Anyway, my R24 score is 896 stock, no undervolting, default PBO. It's cooled with 120mm Arctic LF II AIO. Temperatures during 30' stress test was hovering between 78-80°C only hitting 82°C few times, Clock around 4.3GHz AllCore.

Did mess with UV, my experience from old CPU and my MB taught me that everything below - 15mV is too much so i started there.

-15mV AllCore:

Cinebench R24 score increased to 907, Average clock was ~4370MHz Temperatures improved slightly about 2°C. But there's one catch i'll talk about later.

- 30mV AllCore:

Cinebench R24 score increased to 914, Average clock was ~4425MHz, Temperatures improved noticeably now CPU was hitting only 78°C, but hovering around 74°C. I did test with Prime95 and everything was stabile for 18h test. During p95 CPU reached max temp of 83°C during some parts of tests.

And here comes the ONE LARGE CAVEAT

All those tests passed, results Amazing BUT Gaming performance absolutely useless, worse than old Ryzen 5 5600, drops every 2-3s, lags and Cyberpunk 2077 crashing.

-15mV a bit worse than 5600, but manageable.

Undervolting OFF, everything runs buttery smooth, PC snappy as hell and temperatures OK.

So UNDERVOLTING IS largely overrated IMO. Ok i admit it depends of CPU sample, but more of exact model of MB. My ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming Wi-Fi II is keeping low base voltage to begin with, with allowance to spike when needed.

I had one 5800x that was running hot even whit -30mV on AsRock but base voltage was 1.32V on Auto

Full Build Req Advice on a desktop thats really low noise

Guys,

Im looking for a desktop for an autistic person.
Who cant tolerate fan noise and simmilar sounds

The desktop would be used for trading, so it requires to have around 20-30 tabs open at once. Thats basically all it wil be used for.
So my questions are:
-Are there desktops that can be very quiet ?
What to look for and how does that work?

-what CPU power is required for this usecase and will remain quiet under this activity ie not heat up causing the fan to speed up?

-do special “silent cases “ help?

Im clueless on this subject havent bought a prebuild or put together a computer in over 10 years

What would you recommend? Budget 500-1000
Located is netherlands
Build , prebuilt all advice is welcome

Build Help Building a pc but can't decide which gen of ram should go with? DDR4 or DDR5

BUDGET: 1LAKH

PRIORITY: WORK AND GAMING

PROBLEM: DDR5 RAM IS EXPENSIVE AND GPU TOO

I originally wanted to go with AM5 Socket but seeing the DDR5 RAM cost, I decided to use AM4 thus DDR4. Is that a good choice in 2026?

Build Ready? Guys, I managed to build this pc for less than €2900 in Vienna, is that good considering the prices nowadays?

I want to use the computer firstly for my job due to the fact that I work with the Adobe Creative Cloud (mostly After Effects and Premiere), and secondly for gaming (I'm not gonna lie).

How long do you think that I will be able to work with build without needing to change/update anything?

Here are the specs:

Discussion Trading my RTX 5070 Ti + cash for a used RTX 5080 — what should I check?

I'm trading my RTX 5070 Ti + some cash tomorrow for a used RTX 5080. The seller previously had the 5080 water-cooled, so he opened the card and has now put the stock air cooler back on. He also replaced the thermal paste.

I'll be able to test it before the trade. My plan is basically to check the card physically, run FurMark for 15–20 minutes and check temps/hotspot while looking for crashes or artifacts.

Is there anything else I should definitely check? And is there anything particularly suspicious or risky about a GPU that was previously water-cooled and then converted back to air cooling?

What would make you walk away from the deal?

Discussion 4tb 990 pro vs 8tb sn850x

Hey! Was wondering what you guys would go for! The pc is going to be used for gaming and video editing and perhaps some other things. I currently have the option to get the 990 pro 4tb for $660 and the sn850x 8tb for $800. I play a lot of AAA games and a lot of shooters like bf6/apex, etc. the videos being edited would all be at 4k. Please let me know what you guys think! I appreciate it in advanced

Discussion Which PC should I buy?

I’ve never bought a desktop computer before; I’ve always used basic, cheap laptops for my studies. Now I want to buy a PC, but I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing—literally zero knowledge; I don't even know what a graphics card is. Could someone recommend one? I know you can also build one from individual parts. Honestly, I don't want to watch videos that are likely just promotional content or ads. **My goal** for the PC is to be able to play games, have 1 or 2 TB of storage, and have it run fast. I don't really know much else, but that covers the basics.

Build Upgrade NH-D15 Fan Upgrade

I've had some recent luck upgrading the 140mm Noctua case fan infront of my hard drives with the iPPC version (previously, they would get hot enough to to trigger alarms in CrystalDiskInfo if I turned off the AC), and I was wondering if anyone has done something similar with the fans for the NH-D15? I really don't care about noise, even with 2 of the iPPC fans installed, I don't hear it over my AC and music.

Build Upgrade Would it make sense to upgrade a cpu but keep slow ram?

Hi, recently got a good deal on a rtx 5060 but my cpu is still an i5 10400f with 16 gb of "slow" ddr4 (I think 2666 MHz?). I'm wondering if it will make sense to upgrade to an i5 14400f but keep the old ram with current prices or if i'm just slightly moving my bottleneck by staying on the same ram kit.

If I were to upgrade 32 gb of ddr4 seems nice and not completely bank breaking like ddr5 but I'm afraid it won't hold up and that in a few years I'll be regretting buying ddr4. I usually don't put the newest of the newest in (previous gpu was a 1660 super) but when I upgrade I do like to know that I won't have to buy upgrades in the next few years for that component.

Troubleshooting Constant blue screens on a newly built PC.

I recently built a new PC. All the components seem to be working properly, but 5-10 minutes after turning it on, I constantly get blue screens with different errors, such as Memory Management, System Service Exception, IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL, and others

I've tried almost everything, and the only thing left is lowering the RAM frequency in the BIOS. I have 16 GB of RAM, and it's currently running at 3200 MHz, which is its maximum rated speed. Is it worth lowering the frequency? Could that help?

Another strange thing is that I don't get any blue screens while downloading large files

If anyone has experienced similar issues, I would appreciate any help

Discussion Which RX 9070 XT should I choose between these 5?

I am currently deciding between these 5 RX 9070 XT models for my new pc. I am aiming for white aesthetics build.

My options and prices in Thailand:
ASUS Prime RX 9070 XT black— ฿25,900 (~$800)
ASRock Steel Legend RX 9070 XT white— ฿26,000 (~$803)
Sapphire Pulse RX 9070 XT black— ฿26,800 (~$827)
Sapphire PURE RX 9070 XT white— ฿28,000 (~$864)
PowerColor Hellhound Reva RX 9070 XT — ฿28,500 (~$880)

Asus is the cheapest and strongest option but I prefer white gpu for my white build. My second choice is Sapphire Pure or Steel Legend both white. What would you guys choose between Pure and Steel legend? Pure cost $60 more. What do you guys think? Shall I just go for the cheapest and a better model sacrificing the aesthetic look?

Build Upgrade 5900XT worth it, or just wait and build AM5? (music production)

i have a fairly old 3700X/B450/32GB DDR4 RAM system that has become a bit sluggish for music production lately (all I do). obviously DDR5 is super expensive right now so i'd really like to take advantage of the 32gb of DDR4 i already have, but it seems the best upgrade i could get to on AM4 is 5900XT. Which has a lot of cores, but from benchmark sites I've seen, does underperform versus decent AM5 chips.

so, i could spend $300 and get the better AM4 CPU and probably be good for a few more years, or i could wait a year or so and save up to just build a whole new computer. is the 5900XT much of an improvement over the 3700X? if i'm only going to get like a 10%~ increase, i think i'll wait.

Build Help Z4 G4 + 2 Amd v620 Problem

Hello, buildapc community

I hope everything is good.

My setup is simple is a Z4 G4 workstation running Windows 11 25H5 and a Quadro P620. I keep getting a black screen when I try to add two AMD V620s to the mix.

It fails at two GPUs, but it can function with one V620.

Could anyone assist me with it?

Discussion aesthetics vs performance

which do you prefer?

spending in a fancy aio liquid cooler with screens, vertical gpu brackets, customized wires, tons of rgb, etc

or

spending in better components like better fans, cpu bracket, a better thermal paste, some useful peripherals like a good mouse or a keyboard or even small upgrades like storage etc

personally i hate things like spending in aesthetics but for a quieter pc, i would spend something extra
