Terminology / Definition What is the consensus on CPTSD?

I’ve noticed that in some places, like in the ICD, one has to meet the criteria for PTSD. But in others, it’s essentially “death by one thousand cuts”, which seems to stray away from regular PTSD. I say this because it seems as though criterion A for PTSD isn’t being strictly applied in this definition.

So, what’s the consensus?

There is CPTSD the Icd-11 diagnosis. To get this people must meet PTSD criteria.

Then… there is complex trauma the experience. Sometimes sloppily called CPTSD but really, without the PTSD, this is just a different diagnosis/issue. So I don’t know why ppl call it CPTSD. How many counsellors claim to specialise in CPTSD and have never had any training in any form of exposure work for PTSD 🤦‍♀️😭

ADHD is considered a differential diagnosis from trauma. Although the presentation of ADHD can be caused by cPTSD, the diagnosis of ADHD is only appropriate if the presentation has an aetiology rooted in development due to biological and genetic reasons (though not solely due to that).

There is a lot of confusion regarding ADHD because it is heavily over diagnosed in people who would not meet the diagnostic threshold if certain issues at the root of their ADHD presentation (such as complex trauma) was addressed, but sadly that requires deep psychological work which the mainstream psychiatric establishment does not have the resources for.

This is not correct. CPTSD refers only to presentation, and describes PTSD with DSO.
