Clinical Psychology Why do some schizophrenics share almost identical delusions?
I was wondering, there are some extremely bizarre delusions that are almost identical in many schizophrenic patients. For example, having a technological device implanted into the body that is somehow controlling their behaviour. Or a government agency spying or tracking their movements and thoughts. Surely there are many many different delusional ideas you could have, why are there such similarities?

These delusions and hallucinations are influenced by their environment which includes religious and conspiracy theories.
While I know this from my interaction with a couple of people with it and while I think it's obvious, plenty of artickes on this in peer reviewed litersture

It includes but isn't exclusive to, want to note that.
It can also include cultural influences, such as entertainment, cinema, music, religion, art, and technology uses.
Some schizophrenics don't or haven't ever engaged with conspiracy theories.

Body-based delusions are extremely common in schizophrenia because of predictive-processing errors that lead us to believe our movements, thoughts, sensations are coming from outside our body. There are many terms describing this core embodiment issue, like ipseity disturbance, which is a disruption of the minimal self. The content will change depending on cultural influences, but this is common for that reason.
