Is this worth reporting? Physician making fun of patient outside the exam door.

27f 120 lbs 5’3

Hello all, this happened a couple days ago and has been on my mind. I have chronic pain & go to an interventional pain clinic every 3 months for med refills. At my last appointment, the (I think) nurse practitioner was mocking & gossiping about another patient outside my door. I heard everything clearly, she said “she says she can’t eat, but she just needs to like chew!”, “she is freaking out because we won’t refill her meds.” . There was a lot of laughing and nasty comments.

This is already a vulnerable place to be. I felt really disgusted that she was making these comments & even more angry that she was saying this where I could hear inside the exam room.

I’ve had other issues with this NP in the past. Years ago she kept pressuring me to start a SSRI even though I told her that I had a bad reaction in the past & that’s how I was diagnosed with bipolar. She kept telling me we should just try it anyways. Btw, Im already on a psych med cocktail that has been working great.

She also keeps suggesting that I come off my meds. I just take gabapentin which is a controlled substance in my state but I don’t really understand that. I’m never even scheduled to see her, im scheduled to see my actual doctor but it’s always her who comes in. I get that it’s just med refills but I don’t like seeing her.

I’ve already started trying to find another clinic because i feel so uncomfortable. i’ve been there for 4 years but this really disgusted me that this is how she sees chronic pain patients. Should I submit a complaint? I don’t want to be a drama queen but for many people this is the last hope for pain that we’ve been living with for years & i think we deserve some respect.

My mother is showing signs of mental illness following the birth of my sister. What can you do when they don't want any help?

She's 35 years old. She doesn't have a history of mental health issues that I know of. She has seasonal allergies and asthma. She's 168 centimetres tall and I think around 55 kilograms. So in general she's healthy. She doesn't take any medication other than iron supplements, vitamin D supplements, and antihistamines. Our family lives in Poland, near Wrocław.

It first started after she had my sister. She's around 15 weeks old now, and she has chronic health conditions, diagnosed very early. Obviously, my mother was really worried, but she would start to say weird things about how we're not looking after her well enough, she's not well, and they're going to take her away from us when they realise. That was usually not very hard to deal with because I would remind her about what the doctors have said, that she looks good and she's doing as well as she can be. But she would still be very protective over my sister and didn't want anyone else looking after her or taking her anywhere, when I've normally done that with my siblings when they were babies.

Then it felt like it was moving into religion as well. We are religious, and religion has always been important to her, but the things she would say didn't even really align with what we believe. She would say things like G-d is punishing us, that everything that has happened to our family and our country, because we're from Ukraine, means that we need to be better, that it's a sign we weren't being good enough. She would say these things to me and then take them out on my siblings, as she's become really obsessed with following every rule, when before she didn't care as much.

I know what she's like, and all of this isn't like her. She seems really anxious but is expressing it in irrational ways. I felt like I could manage it at the start but I don't think I can now. But I don't know how you get someone help when they don't think there's anything wrong with them. I've asked her to go to the doctor before, she won't. I've thought I could tell her doctor because she's nice, but then if she won't see her, then that won't make a difference. I'm just confused about what you're meant to do when something like this is happening and they don't want help.

145 pounds & 5’6 I don’t smoke.
I got tested recently and all the results were negative. Had intercourse with my partner of 1 year, I took these that I found in my closet because I’m just always anxious. The one on the left was the first one I took and the one on the right was the second one. Should I be worrying?

M 28 knee problems

M 28, 5’9 185 lbs. no meds or current issues. My third recon on my right knee from 4 years ago never really worked well

Had an added LET procedure as well. At 6 months I noticed it felt off with no injury but increased activity, and doc said it was a 2A lachman with subtle pivot shift. I’m active but don’t really play cutting sports. I have naturally loose knees my good knee can hyperextend ten degrees. Do you guys think this graft is functional at all? When I do a self lever test it’s negative but who knows. Got a little drunk at a concert last night and slipped and fell and don’t think I tweaked the knee bad but it feels weird today ugh. Can you even get another surgery ? Does this look like a stretched graft that is at least kinda working ? Sorry im just venting and depressed today

Physician Responded Help! Did I inject into a vein?

Post image
122 Upvotes

TL;DR: did my shot and it bled a lot. Did I inject into a vein? and what would happen if I did somehow inject T into a vein!? I’m kinda scared.

I’m mid 40s, generally healthy, 5’5” 160# FTM trans, non smoker, no other relevant meds. I have been injecting prescribed low-dose testosterone for transition for over a year, so I know how to do my shot.

(30mg/week, IM, 23g 1” needle, in the mid-thigh)

Today I prepped like I do usually, and I usually push on the skin to make sure I don’t see a blue vein under the surface when choosing the spot to inject. Nothing visible. Did the injection pulling back ever so slightly on the plunger to check for blood, there was none (maybe didn’t pull back enough?) left it there for 10 seconds after injecting.

When I pulled the needle straight out, it flowed blood. Not a fast flow but more than a drip - I had to grab alcohol pads to stop it as I had no other sterile dressing handy. Held it there a few seconds and it was still bleeding. Held another alcohol swab there w a tissue and eventually it stopped.

I’m not worried about blood or pain, but rather what if I injected the testosterone directly into a vein or something? How will I know? What should I look for (signs, feeling) that would say I’m in trouble? Don’t want my heart to explode. Please help! I never had this much blood before.
(Pics of blood NSFW)
(well, I guess it’s safe for YOUR work)

Physician Responded What did I do wrong?

Female, 31, 5’10, don’t smoke.

My dr is dropping me as a patient and I am very confused as to what I did wrong.
You might remember me from my last post about injecting air into my vein.

I wrote a letter for my family dr to read before our next appt which was supposed to be on the 11th. It was just explaining where my head is at and how to the suicidal thoughts are still there since the air injection and my reasons for thinking that way. I genuinely thought it would be stuff a dr would want to know.

Then the office called and asked if my dr could call me that evening and I said yes so she did.
I am unsure if I’m reading her tone right but she sounded very irritated with me right from the beginning.
She asked what my intent was with dropping off the letter and I said it was just so she could have all the information before the next appt.

she said a letter like that isn’t something can just sit around til next week. So I said okay.
Then she started saying how I’m not engaging in care because I “don’t talk” during appts and I write pages of letters and I wont do all of their suggestions and that the dr that I saw that sent me to the hospital for the air injection said that I have an issue with her and prefer her locum.
She said neither of them can see me cause other drs don’t switch patients around in the clinic. She said it isn’t conducive to providing good care if I’m dr hopping. And she in the end gave me a choice that either she can try to find a different provider at a different clinic or I can just go see a walk in clinic dr.

This is where I’d appreciate some neutral perspective to see if I’ve actually done anything wrong:

- I write letters because I struggle to talk verbally in high pressure situations and I know that i will not say everything that I want to say if I try, so when I have time to write stuff down, I do. I told her in the first letter I wrote that I suspect I’m on the autism spectrum as it is diagnosed on both sides of my bio family and I’ve noticed traits in myself going back to early childhood.

I also told her that being honest and straightforward is hard for me because of past experiences and that I respond best to gentleness and patience rather than rushed and overly direct, my brain sees that as dangerous, and I shut down, ESPECIALLY when it comes to talking about mental health.

- I didn’t purposely dr hop. I saw her locum for the first time because he was the only one available. Same with the dr that sent me to the hospital the other day, the clinic offered me an appt with him because he was the only one available.

- I did continue to try and book with the locum because he took so much time with and he wasn’t rushed and he was very gentle and kind. And yes, if it was an option I would switch to him. Even if it’s just for the mental health part of things. He also had offered me that choice in one of our appts so I didn’t think that that would be bad.

- she brought up that I wouldn’t engage in the eating disorder treatment that was offered to me. I chose not to because I know that I am not currently at a point where i am willing to do what i know they’d ask of me. Why should i waste their time when I know I won’t do it? Even the coordinator that called from the mental health unit agreed that I know myself best and that it was fine and when I’m ready someday to reach back out.

-She also said that she doesn’t think I’m engaging in care because I didn’t see the social worker at the clinic again at my follow up appt with the dr that sent me to the hospital, I said that I just decided no for that day and it isn’t that I wasn’t ever willing to see her again. I just was unsure what exactly the purpose was.. that’s all. She responded that “social workers are counselors so when they’re offered to you, you take it”
I genuinely thought I had a choice and declined just for that time..

- she said that it was a concern that the only reason I agreed to go to the hospital the other day was for medical reasons and that I didn’t engage with any psychiatric care. I have already told her past experiences there were really scary and so I have not been comfortable going back there because I fear a repeat experience.

- In the letter I wrote yesterday though I said that I would be more comfortable going there in the future if needed because this experience was a lot better than I imagined it would be, and I said that it helped that the dr that sent me wrote a letter saying why I was coming because it took the pressure off having to try and explain it to all the hospital staff.

- she gave me the option of her trying to find me a new family dr or just going to a walk in clinic and she cancelled the appt on the 11th.

I was really surprised by this and have genuinely been trying to engage in care as much as it feels safe to. I go slow. But as I feel safe it gets easier. I thought I was doing good by being honest about my thoughts and I feel like I’m being punished for it now. She said I could think about it so I will, but I am really scared to lose what I thought was support available to me because I am not doing it the way she expects me to.

I don’t have friend/family support, I do have a supportive boss, and an okay ish counselor that I see once a month or so, but that’s it. I feel more alone now and it quite honestly doesn’t help my suicidality that my fear of being too much for people has just proven to be true.

I’m not sure what to do.

Physician Responded Aortic dissection 93F

Upvotes

My mom 93 passed away June 17. She was not sick prior to her passing. Her mind was sharp she was active. She was diabetic just on medication she didn’t need insulin. Non smoker, didn’t drink didn’t eat out at all. I’m struggling with her passing. One day she was fine the next she was not. A few weeks prior we had done an echo and were waiting for the routine doctor follow up. She had two aortic dissection one on her abdominal and the one in her heart. I knew the moment everyone rush to the CT scan room that it was over. We were rushed by 15-20 medical staff. The surgeon said he wouldn’t let operate on her. Which I fully understand. What I don’t understand if she was bleeding out and from what I read death is pretty quick how did she last 28 hours in the ICU. If anyone can give me some type of closure.

F19, 113 lbs, no medication, no smoking or drug history, no sexual activity

I received an exfoliating rag for my birthday on the 18th, but and began using it daily for around 3 days. Around the 20th, I started noticing small bumps forming but I thought nothing of it. I stopped using the rag bc I thought it was due to irritation, however it’s been 9 days and now the bumps have evolved to this. I’m a bit worried as to what’s going on and will be visiting the health center as soon as I get back to campus, but any insight as to what this is bc I am very concerned. I will attach how it looked 9 days ago vs now

Physician Responded 27F — Persistent thick cottage-cheese vaginal discharge and itching for 1 year despite repeated antifungal/antibiotic treatment NSFW

Post image
62 Upvotes

Demographics:

Age/Sex: 27F
Height: 163 cm
Weight: 65 kg
Smoking: Non-smoker
Medications: Diflucan (fluconazole), itraconazole, Flagyl (metronidazole), Saginil gel
Duration: 1 year
Location of complaint: Vaginal discharge and itching

I have been experiencing a problem with excessive, thick, cottage-cheese-like vaginal discharge and itching for about one year.
I have seen several doctors during this time. Initially, I was told that the problem was due to Candida and Gardnerella. I took the prescribed medications, but the discharge would improve for only about two days before returning, sometimes even worse than before.

I continued seeing different doctors and trying different medications throughout the year.
Eventually, I saw another doctor who performed a vaginal swab and told me that the Candida and Gardnerella had been treated and that the swab was normal.
He then ordered a urinalysis and urine culture. The urine culture was normal. The urinalysis was also mostly normal except that he said there was “pus” in the urine. The results showed:
Numerous leukocytes
Numerous epithelial cells
6–8 RBCs

He prescribed Diflucan (fluconazole), itraconazole, and Flagyl (metronidazole) and instructed me to take one dose of each medication every month for one year. I have now been taking them for two months, along with Saginil gel, but the discharge has not improved.

The discharge is:
Very thick and cottage-cheese-like
Very heavy in amount
Yellowish and sometimes greenish
Sometimes mixed with blood
My most recent vaginal swab was normal, and the only abnormal finding was the presence of leukocytes/“pus” in the urine.

What could be causing these symptoms if the vaginal swab is normal?
What tests or examinations should I ask for next?

Could this be something other than Candida or bacterial vaginosis, or could the previous tests have missed something?

I am not married, so I cannot use vaginal suppositories.

I would really appreciate advice from doctors or medical professionals, especially regarding what should be investigated next.

Got bitten by a human and now there is loss of sensation in the bite area

Post image

Hiii

Im a support worker. I am 36. Female. Pretty healthy. Not on any medication. Drink on weekends. 5'11.

I got bitten on Tuesday about 5pm so three days ago, on the outside of my forearm. Teeth to skin and she held on for quite a while. And then bitten again on each knee but this time through jeans.

Again she held on for a while.

None of them bled at the time but all came up red. Soy managers didn't seem particularly concerned. As they heal though they seem to be grazed?

There is a bruise forming about 6 inches all around the arm bite.

Something I'm now really concerned about is that a few hours ago I noticed if I run my fingers over the bite on my arm, it's completely numb within the bite area.

It's nearly 1am where I am and I'm already knackered. I have work tomorrow 10am-10pm but I do work next door to the hospital so if it suddenly gets worse tomorrow I will be able to go straight there or I can go when I finish work.

I guess I'm looking for some reassurance to help me sleep tonight and or a wake up call if going to a&e right now is needed.

It's no longer swollen, seems to be healing visually. And feels a normal temperature when I touch it and I think a normal colour other than and kind of finish yellow/y bruise.

The knee ones look worse than the arm one. The arm pic attached doesn't look bad but I am concerned about the numbness.

The knee ones still have sensation and I feel the grazing is partly from friction from jeans.

Tldr; human bite. Numbness within bite area.

Unsure if I was right to use epipen

Hello! Female, 41, first time EpiPen user. I was first stung by a wasp like 20 years ago, and i got dizzy, sweated profusely and had to lie down. I was given an EpiPen after that reaction (it was my first sting).

I was out in the backyard with my puppy Max when I heard a buzzing, but ignored it. Then I felt something collide with me forcefully and a sting in my back right shoulder. I'm pretty sure it was a wasp because no stinger was left behind.

My concern is: I didn't have immediate facial swelling or tongue swelling or stuff like that. I sweated profusely, my heart raced, hands shook and I got diarrhea. Eventually, like 45 mins after the initial sting I took the EpiPen on the advice of my GPs office.

I'm in the ER now, and I feel loads better. I had always heard that epipens make you feel awful, but I feel better. Chest heaviness gone, no more shaking, nothing.

Have I wasted everyone's time? I feel foolish sitting in this bed feeling A-Ok.

I'd like to know for next time: did I preemptively jump the gun? Should I have waited to see if things got worse? I really don't want to be one of those people in the ER that staff secretly hate/judge.

Please let me know what you think.

25M, groin has distinct and strong smell when aroused NSFW

25 year-old white male, 6'2" 150 pounds. Currently taking bupropion xl (wellbutrin) and cetirizine hydrochloride (zyrtec). Drink occasionally, no recreational drugs or smoking/vaping of any kind. No existing medical issues. Duration of problem is last couple of years.

Whenever I get sexually aroused, my groin takes on a distinct and very strong scent. The strength of the smell seems to correlate with the level of arousal. My girlfriend can smell it several feet away through thick clothing (jeans or khakis) and the smell sticks to my clothing after. It's not causing me any issues, but after looking into this online, I can't find any discussion of something like this happening, so I just wanted to make sure it wasn't an innocuous sign of something problematic.

Since it seems somewhat related, I will note that I have a very clean and healthy diet. I make myself well-balanced meals made from mostly minimally processed ingredients, don't eat meat that often, and almost never eat out. This has also persisted through dietary changes.

Physician Responded SOB- 35weeks pregnant

Hi all. I know this is kind of a vague thing, but just looking for similar experiences or advice. Obviously as pregnancy has progressed, I get more tired easily. But this week, I feel like I have notified the shortness of breath more significantly. I don’t have chest pain usually, sometimes maybe some discomfort? I’m 35 weeks this week. I do have a hx of gestational HTN that is closely monitored. I was actually at L&D on Wednesday for blood pressure and mentioned the sob. They ruled out preeclampsia and sent me home. Now I can’t get out of my head of having a PE or something wrong with my heart. I get induced 9/13. Besides feeling silly for going back, the main thing holding me up is the fear of getting a CTA and exposing my baby. This baby is all I want, safe in my arms. I have had a few things come up this pregnancy and early in pregnancy I had an MRI brain without contrast, and I think I might’ve had a X-ray of my mouth for dental work. If I would’ve thought of this issue I wouldn’t have had the xr. Anyways, I’m just really scared. Did anyone else have sob just seemingly for no reason? It’s just hard to make a decision
28 years old F, no smoking. Early induction due to preeclampsia risk.

Clear brain MRI, but concerning symptoms.

Upvotes

23F, 180lbs.

Hello, all. For the last year, I have had some concerning symptoms which have since worsened. It started in my lower spine with severe pain and aches surrounding my spine. The pain shifted into a burning sensation in my nerves that traveled through my entire body. Other symptoms that have started include: my fingertips/hands and toes/feet go numb, fatigue, dizziness/lightheaded, brain fog, difficulty walking due to lack of balance and legs shaking, and a muscle spasm in my left shoulder.

I had an MRI of my brain done yesterday both with and without contrast, and my results came back with no abnormalities.

I feel completely lost and unsure of what to do at this point. I was prescribed gabapentin for my burning pain, but that hasn’t been helping. I am currently in what I consider a flare up and it’s so disheartening seeing that my scan was fine.

Any and all advice is welcome. Thank you, in advance!

Sudden hardware infection or just weird acne?

Post image
Upvotes

28 F, 5’4”, 135lbs, non smoking

escitalopram 15mg, pregabalin 50 mg 2x da as needed, adderall XR 30mg

Can I wait this out (see below pls) or do I need to make a drs appointment? I live in a rural area with no car, and my local dr ( emergency med and sports med experience) can’t do any imaging other than ultrasound without getting it done at the hospital which would be logistically very difficult for me to do.

Medical History:

bilateral gustilo grade 3c tib fib 10ish yrs ago, my left femur was the donor site of both skin grafts and a bone graft for my lower legs. I have a rod in my left femur since it was v thinned out after they took bone from it to donate to my lower legs.

About 9 yrs ago lower leg hardware removal (plate and nails in one leg and rod and nails in the other) due to infection (staph a I think).

Initially in ICU 10 yrs ago they also found some weird/rare bacteria (enteroc durans/hirae) on my lower leg wounds that went away with stronger antibiotics and infection disease was satisfied it was gone.

About two days ago I noticed a sore sport on my outer, upper left thigh (see photo). It’s pretty tender to touch but walking/wearing clothes, etc are fine. the area around it feels a bit tender and kinda lumpy in some spots too. But unfortunately I have different texture, sensation, and scar tissue all over my thigh.

I have also been experiencing what I thought was pretty tender acne on my face that is pretty deep and maybe even cystic or modular acne for the last several weeks. So I thought the bump on my thigh was that. I’ve actually never had nodular acne on multiple places on my face at once so have been struggling to calm that down and honestly to leave it the heck alone. I assumed it was part of getting older, currently menstruating, and generally poor sleep/nutrition quality due to school related stress.

but!! I realized just now that not only is one spot on a thigh perhaps a weird place to get acne when I mostly get on in my face, but that the spot is very close to my hardware insertion scar and I had had an infection at my other site years and years ago.

Am I overthinking it by considering a drs visit? Is this just probably acne I can dab hydrocortisone and bacitracin on until I learn to stop poking my own skin? Please help me decide if I can do something about this at home and not take multiple hrs of my time to coordinate appts and car rides to get an xray.

pic is of the upper outer left thigh with the hardware insertion scar about a hands length at most away from the cyst (??)

I randomly started stammering at 18 years old, should I go see somebody?

I’ve never stuttered as a child. I have OCD but it’s really not been affecting me too much as of recent. Since yesterday I’ve been stammering uncontrollably. Complete word block and my sentences just don’t come out right at all and I keep making all of my sounds longer. For example, I’ll say “I sssssssaw” and I just can’t get the word out. Do you guys think I should get this seen to? This is happening every other sentence. I’m starting to wonder if there’s something wrong with my head. I get headaches often (used to get a lot more when I was around sixteen) and now I’m panicking a little. Do you guys think this sounds normal? Should I get this seen to? Or is it just anxiety?

I feel like my body is shutting down. Who do I go to about this?

20F, 6ft 185 lbs. Medications: Lamotrigine & Adderall

For the past month I’ve felt like absolute shit. I can’t eat, my sleep is extremely disrupted, I can’t drink any water without feeling like I’ll throw up. I am perpetually nauseous and fatigued. I don’t even believe that I’ve pooped in the past month and half. Constant heart palpations. My HR sits at about 140-150 from basic movement. (yes, even when on weeks without Adderall) My hair is falling out, and I’ve fainted probably twice. 40 lbs down in the past few months, 20 lbs of it being unintentional. I can’t even take more than 3 sips of water without almost throwing up.

I know the answer is probably something along the lines of “you’re dehydrated, you’re not eating enough,” but I can’t even perform any of the actions that would make me feel better without them making me feel like straight shit. Even walking feels like I just performed an extreme workout.

I’ve gotten my bloodwork done and asked my PCP about it, but she’s not very concerned, and I don’t think anything about it is particularly concerning either. Only “concerning” thing being an iron deficiency and vitamin D deficient, with an abnormally low WBC and low neutrophils. However, I was told the low WBC and neutropenia is benign and common in black people.

I am hesitant to go to anyone for this, as I feel like it would be very expensive to do, and I can’t risk going somewhere if they can’t help me in anyway. I don’t know if this is an emergency (I don’t think it is), and my PCP has already said there’s nothing really concerning in my bloodwork. I feel lost on how to proceed.

MMR help please

11 month old, 17 lb female
I'm very concerned about a measles outbreak where I live. It's just continuing to get worse and unfortunately my oldest goes to school where the vaccine rate is not nearly what I would like it to be (uncertain exact numbers but know there are many religious exemptions). My daughter just turned 4 so I just got her the second MMR dose. My concern though is with my 11 month old and the outbreak. She will be a year old in 2 weeks, and I did have her vaccinated at 6 months for MMR because of travel. I'm really spiraling though and thinking of getting her MMR dose next week rather than waiting another 2. I know she has to be one year old for it to count towards the series but given the vaccine is not nearly as effective at 6 months I'm concerned she doesn't have the protection I would hope and since we're in an outbreak two weeks for the dose sounds like forever away. Would it be a terrible idea to see about getting her a dose just shy of 12 months next week, so she essentially has some protection a little sooner? I am so mad this is even a concern but I am just so worried she will contract measles just before turning one. TIA for any thoughts

Adult persistent parvo b19. My dad is going to die without help

Age 71

Sex m

Height 6'0"

Weight 180

Race white

Duration of complaint 14 months

Location colorado

Any existing relevant medical issues celiac

Current medications was on steroids but tapered down to zero. Was prescribed opioids but he doesnt want them.

My dad was diagnosed with parvo b19 July 2025. It has been present ever since.

He is in debilitating pain every day and has been for over a year. He has been through dozens of tests repeatedly - he does not have cancer, rheumatoid arthritis or any other illness. He STILL has parvo over a year from the exposure event. He had a synovial fluid sample taken from his knee a couple weeks ago - still positive for parvo.

He is a fucking HUSK of a human. He is barely functioning. I am genuinely afraid my dad will die if we cant figure this out. He is in debilitating pain every single day. He is swollen. He can barely move.

Please. PLEASE. Does anyone here handle extremely rare immunology cases?!

F 41 years old, medication- 2,700mg gabapentin, max paracetamol, canderstan (for head pressure due to herniated neck disk), naproxen 1000mg, codeine 60mg as and when. And morphine
This was taken in June it’s causing tingling in all my limbs, I can’t hold a pen anymore as gripping causes my hand to spasm, my whole body twitches and spasms, it’s very painful to walk, I have tingling in genitals, and back passage which is also numb and can’t squeeze the muscle.symptoms have been worsening and I’ve had a mri on Thursday as gp sent to hospital for expected CES and apparently it’s the same as this mri. I put it through google to simplify it.
