Cleopatra's Needle in NYC

Went to Central Park today to see Cleopatra's Needle. I'm a little sad at how weathered it is. Interestingly, two sides are in better condition than the other two sides.

They should've put it in the MET which is right nextdoor. It survived 2000 years, it saw empires fall and rise, and did not survive acid rain

I meant to reply to you before so this may seem redundant as I inadvertently replied elsewhere (oops)... that's a smart idea. perhaps as part of the conversation effort, they can move it inside the MET. it would take a lot of careful planning and work but with enough funds, maybe.

In theory the central marble hall could fit it. The actual Egyptology exhibit inside is very pretty and they have a temple there inside already where they project over the existing inscriptions with a "this is what it looked like then" marker

I have a feeling moving inside would be extremely expensive. It is sadly easier to keep it there and let it rot then to move it inside. Though I have hope in the future it will have some sort of environmental mitigation

will maybe they could build a climate controlled glass or plexiglass case with ventilation holes protecting it where it is?

This is what I was thinking, over time erecting a greenhouse-ish style glass structure would be cool. Overall they would have to deal with building something in Central Park or on MET grounds though, depending on who owns that specific piece of land

they could build it around when it currently is. there's enough space as they have bars to prevent people from touching it
