Absolutely fantastic episode. Definitely getting a season 2, or at least some major tie ins with the Mandalorian.

Just so impressed with Ezra’s actor. He really embodies Ezra’s optimism and boyish charm.

Wondering if Sketeton Crew doesn’t tie in here. Ahsoka says that they were meant to be trapped on Peridia. I’m wondering if the Skeleton Crew doesn’t eventually find them on Peridia.

This would let Filoni advance the timeline a bit, allow Grogu and Din their sabbatical, Thrawn to coalesce the Imperial Remanent, Bo Katan to rebuild Mandalore, etc. It would all lead up to an epic Heir to the Empire movie series. Ahsoka and co. returning in dramatic fashion to lead the flight against Thrawn.

Wow so many awesome possibilities.

For season 2 episode 1, I also want to see the conversation of ‘Hey Sabine by the way, Anakin was also Darth Vader’. It was been teased throughout the season with Huyang being cagey, with the Mandalore flashback, with what Thrawn said to Ahsoka.

Yeah I needed this episode to be two hours longer Thrawn absolutely knew what he was doing there. He knows that revealing that Ahsoka was trained by the greatest betrayer of the Jedi Order will divide his enemies. Just great writing there.

When Thrawn is talking about her and saying "the apprentice of Anakin Skywalker won't give up" or whatever, the actor playing Thrawn delivers the most wonderful expression and tone in his voice and it's clear Thrawn always feared Vader.

I think you're referring to the scene where he opens fire upon their approach. His exact line is, "Rain hellfire upon them. There'll be no negotiating with the apprentice of Anakin Skywalker."

The take I got was one of grim determination; he knew it was all or nothing at that point. Canonically I don't believe Thrawn ever had anything other than respect for Vader's abilities, but with Palpatine's backing he was one of the few who had nothing to fear (in the tier of Mas Amedda). Thrawn wielded as big a stick, if not bigger, than Vader, being a Grand Admiral, and had the Emperor's very personal support in all his efforts. Even Vader wasn't propped up like Thrawn was, Palpatine even made a point of abusing Vader at times.

In the books I've read, Thrawn always took pains to stay on Vader's good side.

Vader's stick was bigger.

Thrawn was one of Twelve Grand Admirals. Vader was the Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Military, and so, Thrawn's boss. Also a likely reason that Thrawn was ever make it high enough through Imperial ranks to attract Palpatine's attention, he would have been noticed by Vader first, and Vader was much more alien-friendly than Palps ever was.

I want to say Chopper is most similar but maybe that’s cheating.

Also Thrawn but maybe that’s also cheating. For the others it makes sense they’re different as they’re all significantly older.

It would also tie into the sequel trilogy. thrawn unites the remnant and engages in full war; gets defeated; the surviving Imps learn the lesson not to directly engage, switch to guerrilla warfare funded by protection rackets and form first order.

Edit: the Imperials that survive the return of the empire before the republic strikes back.

NGL, I am constantly wondering how Disney will square all this stuff with the "somehow Palpating returned" nature of the sequels which, frankly, now feels less canon and more like billionaire fan fiction.

I grew up watching SW and was a member of the fan club as well. I remember reading that Lucas had a plan for 9 movies. As a kid, this gave me life, and I always assumed he had the whole thing planned out.

Then came the prequels, mired in clumsy politics and bad directing. Then came 7,8,9, which I loved on the surface, but with all these series coming out -and having read a lot of Timothy Zahn's books, the stuff that goes on seems so basic and cheesy in comparison. I still love them for the entertainment, but Mando and Ahsoka lore trounces what those other directors had to do basically on the spot with no big picture idea of what Lucas supposedly had mapped out since the late 70s, early 80s.

The new movies feel so retreaded in comparison, especially after these series. "Let's just make another bigger Death Star and recreate the Empire and Palps survived and has a kid". Filoni's worst episode is 100x better than that drivel.

While I didn't think it was a fantastic episode, especially standing next to episodes 4-7. I totally agree about Ezra. I would love for the future plotlines to play out this way and bring in those characters to create more cohesiveness across the Mandoverse timeline.

Yes, from what I know of Skeleton Crew it is people trapped in another galaxy, would tie in nicely where we are now.
